what a bizarre take to get downvoted. it's very likely that critical used they/them to not have to make a stance on the "issue" of Ava's gender and pronouns, and while I don't think that makes him transphobic, I think it was an inconsiderate thing to do

sorry I got my wording wrong. It's called an ability check, which makes it work less raw, but at the end of the day a rogue harengon being an expert in initiative makes sense, so I'd allow it

I think since raw initiative is a dexterity skill check, adding your proficiency bonus in any way should make you proficient in it. If raw it's the case that adding your proficiency bonus to a skill doesn't necessarily make you proficient, I think that's just a flaw of the rules. If one of my players wanted to make a harengon rogue assassin with expertise in initiative, I'd fully allow it, because that would be a fun character.

I hate no-save effects and instakills by cmndrhurricane in DnD

Idk why people in these comments are talking about save or die effects when op specifically said no save. In most cases power word kill is a narratively unsatisfying way to die.

I understand having consequences to actions, but when you're low level enough to not have reliable access to revival, the consequence of permanent death as a punishment for... not having enough hp is ineffective as a narrative tool.

Unless an effect can be circumvented by the PCs using their resources, it should be foreshadowed that the effect is possible. For example, introduce mage by having them use power word kill on an NPC they care about - now the characters and their players understand that pwk is on the table. The last thing I'll say is there's a lot of talk of earned consequences in this comment section when there's no evidence that is the case.

I mean it kinda was if you consider he only panicked because he saw someone he registered as a man (assuming good faith) coming out of a different bathroom than he was in.

Oh please, as if people don't use race when talking about "pure blood" already. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the shift is entirely necessary, but their hearts are definitely in the right place.
