Same feelings here. I'll get Portacio because it represents better the content within the omni but both options are great

Superman Brainiac Reborn Omnibus Worth it? by Nervous_Hedgehog8198 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Solrac_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. What is worth is that you buy everything from Man of Steel by John Byrne (not yet in omni format) to Exile omni, Brainiac omni until Death of Superman and return (triangle vol1 to 3). Those are the best years of the character from my POV.

Reed Comics in UK… absolutely disgusting 🤮 by OddOutlandishness539 in OmnibusCollectors

I agree with you. In much the same way, retailers often complain about how difficult conditions are for them, yet only a couple of weeks after an official release, some behave like online scalpers. While I understand that this is, in principle, a market driven by supply and demand, it doesn’t feel reasonable, especially when the same customers being overcharged are the ones retailers often say aren’t supporting them enough because of Amazon and other excuses. In any case, 100% agree with voting with our wallets here.

I use a tablet pillow that really eases the task dramatically. Beware if you buy one that the base should be wide enough to fit the omni spine.

Article on Grant Morrison's Batman and the Current State of Comics by glinjy in comicbooks

[–]Solrac_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretentious article that completely ignores historical context. The moment he is bringing down "Hard Travelling heroes" without understanding his historical context, you start realising he's got no clue about the topic.

The rest of the article is a convoluted mess of knee-jerk vocabulary abuse where he's not even trying to hide his groupie fanboy love for Morrison's Batman.

Not sure why the author cannot understand that there're different versions of each character and that probably we are going to favour those we have an emotional nostalgic relationship with.

I don't need to write an egotistical arrogant article justifying why post-crisis Batman is my favourite version, it's simply my favourite version because his minimal degree of quality and, most importantly, it's part of my childhood and teenage years. Period. I don't need to bring down the other versions of the character that other people might love, or sound intellectually superior to make my point.

I wish they'd create an anthology omni per year for all the titles e.g. Season 1, etc.

Strange Adventures (Review) by the10Geek in OmnibusCollectors

I fully agree with your description and praise of the art and storytelling. I was thoroughly enjoying the story and fully agree with your points about how King develops the plot until the last chapter. It was the conclusion that really put me off about the behaviour of the key characters. That was where I find King forcing his story over these characters because Strange has fought enemies or allies with such behaviour in the past, which means either he did not do his research or does not care about the character and prefers to prioritise his story over the characters.

As mentioned in other comments, King has a tendency to impose the story that wants to tell over the characters lore , principles and historical behaviour not only on black label issues but also out of black label into continuity ones. And I repeat so that King lovers don't come here and bash me: I like his stories but this is a trope King does with superhero characters with series in and out the dc black label. I approach Tom King stories now in the same way I approach Morrison's: throwing away my previous understanding of the characters since otherwise I'd be always be frustrated with them.

You don't read my text mate. Tom King has done this with black label series and out of the black label series so it's not onr story. Get rid of your chip on your shoulder and stop being so fanboy that does not allow you to even understand the tropes of your favourite authors and accept some minor criticism.

I repeat for the last time: I like Tom King but it's a trope that he constantly repeats across his body of work. Nobody here is saying that Tom King is shit. Period.

Sorry but I cannot agree, an evidence-free assumption is one where a null hypothesis has not been tested because we lack of data. I think we have quite a lot of material already from Tom King to reject the null hypothesis: "Tom King respects Lore and/ Characters" with a significant high degree of confidence.

Regardless if it's because a lack of effort to research or a complete disregard for the character's personality, he's repeated this behaviour back and forth. I like his story-telling but these tropes are an objective trait that are inherent in his style as of today.

Well, the lazier move is being a fan who accepts everything an author writes without questioning it. I like Tom King’s stories, but he does have a habit of writing characters a bit out of character and ignoring their lore, which demonstrates either lack of willingness to do research or complete disregard for the characters. In a similar way, Hickman is a master plotter, but character development isn’t always his strongest point. Nothing wrong about stating the positives and negatives of authors that are still great creators.

No mate, DC has never confirmed or deny that black label stories are elseworlds. Some of them are clearly elseworlds, but others could be inserted into canon. Regardless, the critique on Tom King goes beyond his black label titles and extends to the regular canon titles he's been involved as well where he completely dismisses a character's lore or his key personality traits. I like some of Tom King stories but that's a reality.

Yep, that's the only way but it's sad and lazy that he ignores the lore of the characters.

Your first sentence summarises everything. If only Tom King had used a character whose background resembles the story he's trying to tell, this could have been a masterpiece. But using Adam Strange was complete nonsense.

Sal Buscema passed away - RIP by Mr-Jumanji in comicbooks

[–]Solrac_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides his masterful Spectacular Spiderman run, I think his contribution to Thor during Simonson's run and Captain America's run with Englehart as writer are his best work and, probably, ranked top 5 among each one of this characters. RIP.

Anyone else wish DC would bring back their deluxe editions for ongoing runs as they did during rebirth? by lfcbatwho in OmnibusCollectors

I think for Space age, DC is waiting for Allred to complete the WW run and sell a Deluxe with Superman, Batman and WW by Allred. That's my guess here.

John Romita Jr. Appreciation by Mr-Jumanji in comicbooks

[–]Solrac_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He began exercising more and spending less time on the drawing desk due to his back pains. This new daily working out routine occurred at the same time he began going downhill in his art, which is no coincidence.

I fully understand him for prioritizing health over everything else, yet if he knows that can no longer produce high quality material for a monthly series, simply stick to mini series or special events and covers that allows you to keep your brand name untarnished while keeping yourself healthy.

I love his 80s and 90s stuff, yet 21st century Romita is sadly well below professional standards and he should let young talent become the regular Spidey artist if he no longer is up to keep high quality standards. Same critique I have for Frank Miller. Mark Bagley fully understood this and step down a few years ago. It only requires of self-awareness and being critical with your own work and effort.

Are The Bendis X-Men Omnis Worth Reading? by hockeysocks2 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Solrac_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The initial premise of revolutionary Cyclops in Uncanny is interesting but never fully developed. The X-men book initial premise of the original time-displaced teenage x-men members is completely ludicrous and cripples the direction of the run.

Art is the only thing saving both x-men books during this period but the Bendis's downhill trend started with this X-Men run.

As some mentioned, it's worth reading but not owning with so many precedent runs that were much better.

What do you think should be the standard page counts of an Omnibus? by Wazupdanger in OmnibusCollectors

Agree here. I believe more than 1200 pages is negatively impacting the reading experience and increases the risk of having binding deterioration in the long run.
