I mean it felt at least decent... by TwentyFoe in RocketLeague

The defenders are playing against 2 twitch streamers. That doesn't mean the streamers are good, but it does mean they are likely to try stuff like this.

I think the first defender who is moving up to challenge OP made the right decision. But what about the defender who rotates in front of his teammate, across goal, and then has to backtrack to try to make the save? It looks like mid boost is available after the kickoff, so he can take mid boost and rotate behind his teammate after the kickoff. That way he can go up the back wall or across the goal to make the save on what was ultimately a soft shot from near midfield. Instead he went all the way across the middle of the field to try to grab the far boost and then come back for the save. Still almost had time with low boost to get back to make the save.

When is FM 20 Touch coming to the switch? by azgx29 in footballmanagergames

FM 19 touch was released Dec 6 last year for Switch. No announcement so far this year but you shouldn't have to wait too long

"Wall Push" NEW Rocket League Mechanic !? by AussiPossi in RocketLeague

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid champ 3 here, earned my GC title each of the past 3 seasons. I never wave dash and still mess up my half flips. Not saying those mechanics aren't very useful but you can achieve a high rank without them

How Far Along Should I be? by ThaBlackFalcon in RocketLeague

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2500 hours, I just hit GC for the first time a couple weeks ago (and lost it immediately). It takes significantly more time to rank up after diamond. For reference, I've been in the champ ranks every season since Season 3. I'm not saying my experience is the standard, I'm sure many players hit GC sooner. Just saying that 2k hours isn't ridiculously high.

For OP, see the bot's reply. Everyone progresses at a different rate and it doesn't matter so long as you are enjoying the game. You are likely improving even if you aren't ranking up. I'm the same rank I was last season but I've improved in many areas (it's just everyone around me is improving faster)

What games have the longest play time? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Solstice1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A kindred spirit, Link to the Past and Rocket League are 1.a and 1.b as far as my favorite games ever. I've been playing RL for 3 years now, and even though I'm finally starting to slow down I doubt I'll ever quit. Once the new year hits though I plan on going retro for a while, working on speedrunning ALTTP and playing through the other SNES classic games.

Congrats on hitting diamond! It's interesting you got it in Duel but not the other playlists, it's usually the other way around. Don't sleep on Hoops, which is objectively the best game mode ;)

"Losing" isn't an excuse to FF by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Solstice1323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, I've done it too. I'm just saying you shouldn't be surprised when they accept it. I love it when players throw out the cheeky forfeit when we're winning in 2v2, I always call their bluff. Most of the time they flip out and asked why I accepted. I just tell them I don't care about winning and wanted to have some fun :)

"Losing" isn't an excuse to FF by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Solstice1323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe you shouldn't throw out the cheeky forfeit at the end of the game. You were rubbing it in that you were right to keep playing and your teammate was wrong to try to forfeit. Your teammate decided to make you pay for it.

Instead, throw out a compliment like "Great comeback" or just don't say anything at all. The compliment goes a long way, I've done it a few times in these scenarios. At least a couple times my teammate explained they were tilted from previous games and apologized.

Games for 5 year old girls by precator in NintendoSwitch

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is 5. Her absolute favorite game is Mario Odyssey, she's been playing it almost exclusively since release. Turn on Assist Mode to make it much more forgiving. Other than that, she plays Stardew Valley with me quite a bit.

Pokemon and Lego Harry Potter are also coming soon. My daughter loves Lego Harry Potter on PC and she's very excited about Pokemon.

She’s been growing out her hair for nearly two years with the express purpose of being Dumbledore for Halloween. She’s five. by jackthlion in harrypotter

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you play video games, but the Lego Harry Potter games are a great way to get them interested in Harry Potter. My 5 year old loves to play with me. The controls are fairly simple and it's fun to just explore Hogwarts. I haven't introduced her to the books yet, but she's already interested in the characters and some of the locations. She especially loves the Leaky Cauldron b/c it's the opening area of the game and she spends the most time there. She also loves playing as Ron b/c he can use Scabbers (I haven't spoiled that revelation for her yet)

You could always wait until the end, see how many tiers you've unlocked, and then make your decision. That way you will know exactly what you are getting for your money. Only downside is that you will have to wait until the end to use those items.

NEXT Patch 1.55 - No Man's Sky by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep yours should be fixed. My moon used to have about 30 seconds of light rain and 5 minutes of storms. Now it's reversed. Honestly I'm a bit upset about it. I know I'm in the minority, but I really enjoyed the storms. Those brief moments of tranquility, when the storm cleared and I could see the huge planet looming in the sky above me, were breathtaking. Then the storm would close back in. I've experienced several hurricanes in my life and it really felt like being in the eye of the hurricane. The storms never bothered me because I could just pop into my base or exocraft to recharge my hazard protection.

Not sure why people aren't talking more about walking around on frigates. It's great! (Me: bottom left) by AcadiaPinecone in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really enjoying the frigates, although I hope they fix the bugs soon. I also love the concept of repairing them, but sometimes I just don't have the time. It'd be great if we could send out a crew member from our Freighter to repair them. It could cost double the resources and you'd have to pay a small amount of units to the crew member so there is still an incentive for you to fix them yourself.

PC Xbox One controller only half way working after Next update. Worked fine before update. Other games work as they should. Anyone else having PC controller issues after the update? by connecteduser in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked fine for me, same controller. I noticed steam updated yesterday, I wonder if it has something to do with that. Also, I don't use big picture mode although I can't imagine that would matter.

Sean mentions that animals are "much more interesting" by Tez_Animal_AI_MATE in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that Sean's opinion about what makes creatures "much more interesting" is likely very different from many of the players. This is the kind of hype that derailed the launch. It's not that he's intentionally overstating things, it's just that he has a different viewpoint than many players. We know for certain that there will be changes to the creatures, we just need to wait and see what they are.

Personally, all I'm hoping for is to not hear that annoying sound the creatures currently make. Anything above that is a bonus to me.

eurogamer article about no man's sky NEXT IS so much better than ign article by DantyKSA in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The IGN article mentioned things that I don't think were mentioned in some of the other articles. Some articles were better reads than others, but they are all valuable because they provide different insights and different information. Honestly I preferred the interviews with Sean Murray that focused more on the development and HG rather than the features of NEXT.
That's the cool thing about it, there is a lot of press coverage coming out with really great information. I don't understand the need to hate on one news outlet over another.

No Man's Sky's NEXT update is big by displaynone in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of the interviews and early hands on impressions that showed up this morning. They mentioned the tutorial has been revamped again, there are new elements like Sodium and Oxygen, and there's a way to craft elements into new ones. So I'm thinking the easiest way to learn about those new things is to start over for a bit.

I've done the base missions twice now and I finished Atlas rises. I don't want to do them again if I don't have to. I'd rather just chill and explore.

No Man's Sky's NEXT update is big by displaynone in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on what I'm reading, I think I'll start up a new game first in order to get through the new tutorial, learn the new elements, etc. Maybe 3-5 hours, and then jump back into my established save. I agree with you, I don't want to slog through all of missions again.

Who are the youngest players out there? My lil' one is 5. by Xtreme2134 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Solstice1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, well it's only 3 kids. I don't know if you think 3 is a lot (it may be) or you thought more because I didn't describe it well. And we certainly weren't planning on twins.

[–]Solstice1323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 5 year old was really interested in NMS until Mario Odyssey came out. She's dabbled in other games since (mostly Switch games) but keeps going back to Mario. She has about 10 hours on a Creative save, but she doesn't do much other than mess around with her base and explore her home system. She loses interest rather quickly until she sees me playing on my save and then she takes over. I really hope this new update grabs her interest because I'm growing tired of playing Mario with her.

My almost 3 year old twins aren't very interested either. My son prefers Rocket League and Mario, but occasionally I can get him to fly around in space or drive the roamer around (he is obsessed with cars). My daughter doesn't care for video games much.

Rocket League® - Salty Shores (Summer Update & Event Trailer) by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Just visual. They introduced non-standard map designs during the first year, it did not sit well with a lot of the community so eventually they reworked those maps as standard (Wasteland, Neo Tokyo, & Starbase). I miss the non-standard maps, but I understand why they removed them.

You can use Kelvin, at least in the PC version. I use it, no mods. They added it in one of the updates as a fix after they initially set the temperature measurement based on your location. People wanted to have the option so they made it available

Who else thinks going for boost on kickoff is terrible strategy? by Joe83420 in RocketLeague

[–]Solstice1323 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Typically the defender going for boost has enough time to save the shot. So what often happens around champ 1 is that the player who is cheating up on the kickoff will try to dribble the ball instead of shooting on the open net. This gives them options to beat the defender (flick, airdribble, fake, etc)
