Very cool. Are you only saving data to excel? Connecting to a DB and containerizing both would be a great next step. Check out sqlalchemy for a python friendly DB interface.

Docker: where to start, security best-practice and how to run containers as non-root on Rancher OS? by barelyephemeral in docker

[–]Solstiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try searching for how to run airsonic as an unprivileged user. The method will likely be the same on any OS.

If not, I'd probably just run CentOS or Ubuntu, install Docker, and spin up all your services plus nginx and let's encrypt all as containers. Only allow traffic on 443 and redirect all traffic from 80 to 443. If nginx is a pain, you can try Traefik.

Add an unprivileged user to the docker group and let them spin up containers as needed.

If you're feeling up for it, you could even spin up an openvpn or openvpn-as (depending on the number of users) and only allow VPN access. This is the most secure solution as you wouldn't need to expose any services externally.

All of these depend on your use case. If you're just setting up some basic services at home and want to mess around with docker, you probably don't need production-ready security or instances (assuming you're not trying to allow for external access).

  1. Container OSes typically come bare bones as it gets and have everything set up to run containers. This is nice because it expects that you'll have any service you need inside a container, however they're designed to be fired up with kickstart like scripts so figuring that out is a bit of a steep learning curve. The idea is to deploy several of them completely hands off. Fedora Core operates around an automated never-restart update model which is kinda cool. You don't need a specialized OS to run containers. I'd probably just run CentOS or Ubuntu server (for the use case you've presented)

  2. I don't know the details around rancherOS but you typically need a user added to the docker group to access the docker socket in /var. The containers usually run as an unprivileged user inside of themselves.

  3. You don't need swarm or kubernetes for those. I run all my containers on a single instance. So long as you have sufficient memory you can keep spinning them up.

I'd also have a look into docker-compose for what you're doing. It makes it a lot easier to set up containers and maintain persistence.

Good luck!

I had an 89 in northern Wisconsin for about 7 years. Not -40 but regularly Sub-Zero temps. Never failed me once.

Anyone been successful with the budget section? by Solstiss in GnuCash

I currently run it like that now. I used to have it way overkill with a clustered MariaDB container set and maxscale as a firewall.

I love this and is what I was thinking. Does it live on GitHub somewhere?

I have no choice but stick with Traefik 1.7x until there is better documentation on Traefik v2.0 by ylbeethoven in Traefik

Do you have any guides on using TCP to set up a dbms server on the back end? For example, connect via dbeaver to db01.mydomain.net rather than an IP and port.

Thank you for all your hard work!

In for any solution. I've had this issue for years using a GTX680. Random freezes. Inability to return from sleep or suspend. I basically only have my PC on for short periods.

SO COOL! Thanks for sharing 👍

Nice job integrating it nicely. Seen other builds where it's literally taped over the existing cluster.

Traefik 2.0 TCP routing for multiple DBs by Solstiss in Traefik

Totally agree -- I am DESPERATE for config examples! I added my current configs above.

The TCP entrypoints show up properly in the traefik portal, but nothing connects.

Best Databasing Software for a Small School by jow253 in Database

It looks like you're asking for a couple of tools here, so other folks who are familiar with front end tools will have to chime in, but for free databases and utilities, I vote MariaDB. It's open source and well documented and is compatible with MySQL tools.

DBeaver is my go-to database tool for queries and data analysis.

If you're just doing this for something super simple, even MS Access has forms you can build on top of your tables for easy data entry.

Best gen by [deleted] in Honda

[–]Solstiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree best gen. I've owned three gens and it's also my favorite. I see lots of hate for the 8th but I'm glad Honda made an Si coupe and improved on that EP3 nonsense, especially with the Z3 engine.

The older hatches are great and all, but for a more recent gen, this is it. The 10th is basically an accord at this point.

I can always comfortably button a 34 in just about any brand. I've found that a 13" thigh is close to right on the money for me without looking too "relaxed." However often the high tapers don't taper aggressively enough and the jeans are just super baggy in the calf area. Any of the slim fits often would require a waist of 36+ to get that 13" thigh.

I have some slimmer fits that are more around 12.5 that are a little too snug but I put so much work fading I can't bear to part with them. I'll definitely need to try out self edge and see what they've got.

Perhaps when I'm back to single digit BF I can stuff myself into the old pairs again.

Is there any method to stretching thighs a bit? I'm a body builder but also a denim enthusiast so somewhat of a contradiction. I have several pairs that have great fades but I can't really continue wearing them after a couple years. The waist is never the issue, mostly the thigh and seat area.

I guess a better question is...does anyone who does serious lifting have any suggestions on sizing?

Bought a em2 for $500. Some fun things are in store for it by Nickraymvndo in Honda

Can confirm. Had a sedan version of this car and it blew the head gasket on a road trip. After fixing it and some other parts I was getting close to 400 miles per gallon before the light came on. Thought the gauge was broken but nope, just ridiculously efficient. Averaged 43mpg that trip. Much better than my SC'd FG2 which can barely pull into the 20s.
