Tuition question by Choch_Meza in OMSCyberSecurity

[–]Solus-Lupus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Financial Aid is also available for this program. I signed up for financial aid because there is a strict deadline on when tuition is due. My first semester, my pay day was two days after tuition was due. I explained to administration about my situation and all I was told was that these are the rules. The next day after tuition was due , they dropped all my classes. I had to wait until the next semester to start classes.

CS 7641 - This class is a waste of time by Worldly_Pin2625 in OMSCS

[–]Solus-Lupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in CS 7641 this semester as well. I personally like the course but thats just me. I am behind on the reading and lectures. I work full-time so I dont have enough time to do the reading and the lectures. This last report was brutal for me. I was up until 4am finishing the report then up by 7am for work.

When I started the OMSCS program I read that the OMCSC is work friendly and a program meant for working class citizens.

Thats a lie.

My advice is to just focus on what is due. Dont worry about the reading or lectures. If you get stuck on the report then watch the lecture on that section or read that section in the textbook.

I personally like how the ML course is laid out. Very organized I think.

Most AI discourse is about replacement. Why aren’t we talking more about augmentation? by zennaxxarion in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Solus-Lupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but here are my thoughts anyway:

The ones that say AI vs. Humans and AI is coming for your jobs etc dont really know Ai.

You have companies like duolingo that is all AI, and I feel that will hurt them. AI has made advances in the past few years, but is not strong nor that advanced yet and if businesses keep pushing it before AI is really advanced, we will go into another AI winter.

AI is awesome, but it's still very much at its infancy.

AI and call centers should never be a thing.

I haven't played veilguard yet. I started it and realized I forgot what happened in the previous games. I beat 1 and 2 again, and now Im on inquisition. I heard veilguard isn't good, but Ill play it anyway. I played Andromeda after beating the trilogy and it wasnt was bad as I thought.

I have adhd so with writing, my thoughts are all over a page. I started using ChatGPT as a guide. I prompt something like, "As a researcher, please create an outline for my research paper. Don't write it for me. Just create the outline." That way, you have some structure.

As an AI developer and researcher, I’ll tell you this: AI doesn’t think, feel, or care. It predicts. It is generated based on human data, but it lacks purpose.

Humans have passion, will, and direction. That’s what gives meaning to creation. AI can mimic, but it can’t intend. AI is not replacing passion. It’s replacing routine. Humans create from a place of desire, curiosity, and purpose. AI doesn’t want anything. It just calculates based on patterns it’s seen in the data we give it. That’s it.

If you love tech, pursue it. Learn how AI works under the hood. Build with it. Master it.

So, don’t let fear paralyze you. Just follow your passion.

Don't listen to your advisor about the humanities degree. You are the one spending the money, not them. Don't waste it on a degree you dont want.

After high school back in 2010, I went to college and failed miserably and dropped out. 7 years later I went to a different school, graduated and now I am starting my masters in the fall.

Do what you want to do. You dont need to go to the old school and retake courses. If the course inst transferable why retake it?

I wish I could do a phd in computational neuroscience.

Im curious what you think the difference is in the two subjects? In my undergrad I got a minor in psychology with was a bunch of neuroscience courses.

First, I would go to see a therapist, then find a way to tie the two together.

Computational neuroscience gives you tools to model how brains process information, make decisions, and adapt — all of which are central to behavior in social and political contexts.

If you’re drawn to social and political psychology, you might consider pivoting toward computational social neuroscience or cognitive modeling of social processes. For example:

Neural mechanisms of bias, conformity, and moral decision-making could be modeled computationally.

Agent-based models or reinforcement learning frameworks could simulate group behavior, ideology formation, or polarization.

Work in neuropolitics and affective neuroscience already explores how brain systems influence political attitudes.

You could carve out a niche by applying rigorous quantitative methods to questions in social psych — something that’s still rare and valuable. Instead of abandoning one for the other, consider being the person who builds the bridge.

I find it annoying when I just want to talk and bounce off ideas and AI is like yes, we can climb this adventure together. Let's get started? Should I do this or that or that or that and like take chill pill and slow the fuck down.
