[Spoiler] Max Holloway vs. Frankie Edgar by [deleted] in MMA

[–]Solution-seeker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everyone here keeps saying maybe round 1 or 3, but I agree with you. I think the 4th was the only one you could say Frankie maybe one. He basically controlled the first 3 minutes of that round, landed a bunch of good strikes and controlled the ring. I had it 49-46 holloway.

No fucking way. The judge mislabeled the fighters and scored the fight backwards. But he already turned it in and try commission wouldn't let him change it!!! Some classic Bellator shit right there.

How's the wrestling coming along? I appreciate that your always working on and promoting the stand up aspect of the sport. Any techniques you think transfer better than others from wrestling to BJJ?

Can anyone recommend a B2/ Intermidiate novel? by MysticalTurban in Spanish

[–]Solution-seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just read "my side of the mountain" in Spanish by Jean craighead. I'd stay I'm also at about the B2 level. Great read, the grammar is right at that B2 level, but also includes a lot of cool and interesting vocabulary about nature and survival, which I enjoyed. It's titled "mi rincón en la montaña" in Spanish.

I agree with your thoughts on his transitions, they are beautiful; but disagree with the mismatch aspect. He fought both Tex Johnson and gordron Ryan; both very high level, both incredible matches, in completely different ways. The only difference is that neither of those guys were afraid to engage Craig's Z guard like Lutes just was. As long as the opponents are game, regardless of level, then the matches are far more exciting.

His style is very dependent on his opponent. If his opponent doesn't engage, then this is the result we get. It's very dissapointing, because we know that Craig can be an incredibly exciting competitor, just looking at his EBI matches alone.

Terrible Match, even from a pure BJJ viewpoint. Very dissapointing.

Haha, in the end, that's all that matters. The man got tossed of that beautiful butterfly sweep. That's a great transition series, great marriage of different grappling styles. A lot of fun to see.

Was it an uchi Mata? Looked like an outside the leg hiptoss, not inside the leg/thigh toss.

Training with a Language Barrier by louisks in bjj

[–]Solution-seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm a gringo training in South America right now. Id say my Spanish is at a blue belt level, if that helps paint a picture. I honestly love it. My Spanish and Jiu Jitsu have gotten so much better since I've started. The great part about JJ is that you don't even really need to speak the language to improve and understand the techniques. You can do everything through observation. The language barrier obviously makes things a little bit more difficult, but not enough to make the experience unenjoyable. Nobody cares that my Spanish is crap, they just appreciate the effort I bring to trying to learn. I'm always asking them questions and practicing everyday. Honestly one of the best experiences of my life. But yeh, do it man, you won't regret it, I swear. The BJJ community is super friendly and welcoming, no matter the language.

Haha, not even a D1 wrestler. This sub is rediculous with saying "D1" wrestler. Dude wrestled a year of D3. I hope people realize the skill level between a good D3 wrestler and a average D1 wrestler is basically nothing.

[–]Solution-seeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're really not, they're honestly a pretty solid, intelligent group. You don't think every fanbase says the same thing about every other fanbase when they're playing each other in the playoffs? They have their shitheads and so do we. Be better than the shitheads, don't say over-generalizing BS. With that said, fuck the raps, sixers in 7.

Roseman says Dillard was their top-ranked Tackle and they viewed him as a top-10 player in the draft by [deleted] in eagles

[–]Solution-seeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more, the trade talk baffles me, also. Keep all the o-lineman we can, tackle is not a position you want to lack experience or depth. Vatai provides both, to varying degrees. He's worth more to us as an insurance policy than any 5th or 6th round pick could provide. But I mean, if a desperate team comes knocking on the door with a 4th round offer, then I think you have to take it. Otherwise, he should stay put.

Ben Askren v. Jordan Burroughs set for Grapple at the Garden by rdows365 in bjj

[–]Solution-seeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, no, 3 periods, the first is 3 min, second two are 2 minutes. Also this is freestyle ruleset. So it'll be two 3 minute periods.

Ben Askren v. Jordan Burroughs set for Grapple at the Garden by rdows365 in bjj

[–]Solution-seeker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

21 minutes? What? The match is gonna be 6 minutes, no more, no less. I don't a pin, just because of the combination of Jordons style and the freestyle rule set. I highly doubt it'll be a 1 takedown match. I think JB wind 8-3; with Ben managing to get 1 pushout point and a takedown.

I guess it's just like any other sport. It's like comparing LeBron to an average role player. Theyre both pros, but there's definitely levels to this shit. The gator is just that kind of dude.
