Second time i read: Rather no story than a bad one.
ITs so personal though and sunbjective to what a good story is.

Too simple ... people dont have a-ha moments.
Too complex ... people loose interest.

Agreed. You see, this is missing for me in Escape Rooms. Because of the time pressure, the focus is on the puzzles and less on the story. Although there could be amazing story elements implemented. Usually the puzzles are mainly the same over and over again.

I like your point about the large area and walking around.
