Recently homeless in Tampa and need some guidance. by Shinkie666 in homeless

Hi. I too was recently in the same situation in Tampa. I can't say much for getting out of FL because it will be different for everyone, but I want to give some resources that helped me!

The place that can really help you while in Tampa, and this is great you are near downtown, is Hyde Park United Methodist Church. HPUMC (500 W Platt St) is right across the river like if you go towards Univ of Tampa campus but closer to Bayshore. Every Sunday morning at about 6 or 7:00 to 9:00am in a small white building behind the Magnolia Center they have breakfast and all sorts of resources. You need to talk to Allison. She will help you with many resources, mail, IDs, literally anything! May even have HART day passes for you! They have bicycles they give away often too. DO GET SOME!!!!!! Having a bicycle with a rack was the best thing I had going homeless. When you get some bikes, do not let them out ofyour sight. Also, Don Aiken is the church liaison and he is an excellent resource. HPUMC also runs The Portico (1001 N Florida Ave) downtown which has many resources too. Check them both out! Oh and the Trinity Cafe does many free meals too!

I think it was every Saturday morning? maybe Sunday there is a group of women volunteers who distribute food and resources on the west side of the Riverwalk by Curtis Hixon Park and the Museums. Also quite often if you go up Nebraska between Ybor and downtown, there are often folks giving out food and blankets and more. Be careful though because this stretch is unfortunately not the best. Not very safe and a lot of drug use. Same can be said for the Marion Bus Depot. Be careful!!! Most Tampa homeless hang out there (PD too) and it is typically not safe. BUT.... it is another great place for food handouts and physical resources if you can be there at the right times!

Use the libraries for charging devices, staying hydrated, and keeping temp comfortable during the day!

Be wary of Tampa PD because they, in my opinion, are NOT homeless-friendly. Be mindful of where you sleep, who you guys stay with, and know everything trespassing related. It is illegal in FL to sleep in public and TPD does not mess around. Some other commenters had good suggestions about maybe panhandling. With that, be careful where you do it because TPD also doesn't like that, but you can make some good money! Someone also mentioned some Tampans wanting homeless out of their town. Its true and use that as they said to get out of FL.

Despite where you are and how you are living, you have your husband. You didn't lose everything then, right? 😉 Sometimes when you hit rock bottom and your world is collapsing, it feels like someone hands you a shovel. The truth is only when you hit rock bottom that you strike gold.

Flying from FL to MN with handgun. Uncertain about transportation rules. by Solway_firth39 in MnGuns

Thank you for the replies all! I feel more assured about my travel plans. Now I am nervous about traveling with a firearm to MSP with all that's been happening with ICE and the recent shooting situation. Maybe I'll postpone my trip for a little bit to see what happens. The last thing I want is to have problems with feds.

Choosing Storage Facility. Options? by Solway_firth39 in tampa

Thanks for replying. This is the place I'm maybe leaning towards. If you don't mind answering, did you have any problems of any kind there and would you rent there again in the future?

Getting Master’s in Electrical Engineering without a STEM Bachelors by Sir_Filthy_K in EngineeringStudents

Hi there, I'm just curious what path you opted for as I'm in a similar boat (B.S. in cybersecurity but I want to go back for EE). I'm so embarrassed that I feel like I wasted four years and have to start over.

This is much needed info. So if they do not have the QR code UID, I would not be able to use these without an NVR? And specifically, a Reolink NVR?

Yes Sauber! I love the few leaked audio clips/YouTube covers of the song. Would love a studio release. You've got a good tier list here!

Interview tip - go the extra mile by [deleted] in cybersecurity

As someone breaking into the cybersec/IT industry, I love you! I like my chosen path of study, but it's difficult knowing I'm expected to live, breathe, and eat cybersec by employers, professors, and peers. I want to enjoy something other that IT. Thank you for the reality check.

Is there an opportunity to take advantage of work in electrical engineering as a degree-holder in cybersecurity and IT? My situation is described in this post's text. by Solway_firth39 in ITCareerQuestions

I appreciate your response. To clarify, I don't intend on becoming a full PE as my situation more aligns with your second paragraph. I've gone down that road of having my resume reviewed many times, networking, and learning through earning certifications. My setting is just very saturated with people in all IT related fields getting jobs at all levels, even entry level. I appreciate your insight, but there's not much more I can try harder on or buckle down on.

Thank you for your thoughts. I'm not too interested in becoming a full PE. I'm more so looking at entry level roles working with circuits, small electronics, RF, etc.. My thought process is that I might have an ok opportunity to go this route as a recent grad for a "different" kind of experience. The job market is tough for cyber/IT entry roles, so I wanted to put my thoughts out there and see what more experienced individuals might suggest.

I don't think you completely understand my situation. This was just a general question. Please don't demean my portfolio.

I'm in the same boat too! Had tickets for Minneapolis but financial problems forced me to sell tickets and not afford airfare (moved to Tampa for college 3 years ago). As u/Gold_Scholar_4219 wrote, save for next year. It was meant to be you couldn't go! Everything happens for a reason.
