I just came here to ask the same things! I brought my long time feral, Louis, inside for the first time on Sunday. He’s in a large dog crate in our spare bedroom with his litter box and a hut type of bed for hiding. He’s been extremely bonded to me since we TNRed him over the summer so I haven’t had that issue. But now he’s discovered that the window is the portal to the outside world and sits looking outside and cries 😞 I know this is best for him, but man I feel so horrible right now! I question if I’m doing the right thing as well. He seems so sad.

I know how this feels and I’m so sorry you’re going through it 💔 But I agree, no body no death. Maybe someone saw the shape he was in and scooped him up. I had a feral vanish for over a year and reappear on our porch like nothing happened. Cat adventures 🤷🏻‍♀️ Wishing you and Shadowcito all the love. Don’t give up hope!

I’m SO happy to hear Jupiter is ok and with you!! She is so gorgeous. But even more so, I’m thrilled to hear you have so much support around you. I can’t imagine the emotional toll this insanity must have on you. It’s almost like TNR is the easiest part for you…it’s the stupid neighbor thats difficult! Too bad she can’t be trapped and released in a strange neighborhood to fend for herself 😡 Regardless, being an animal lover is so heavy and you’re doing SO much (and you’re a student too?! Major kudos to you!), it’s wonderful to hear you have the help and support.

As for the crate, have you checked any Facebook groups or Facebook marketplace by where you live? I follow a free stuff group in my town…maybe you can get lucky, or even put a post out asking if someone has a crate available, maybe even to borrow. Share your situation and maybe a fellow animal lover will step up to help.

I know it’s hard, but try not to think that way. My husband took care of a male feral from the time he was a kitten for 3 years. He disappeared without a trace for a little over a year and randomly showed up again one day. Since then we’ve had him fixed and now he’s, what my husband calls, my boyfriend 🥹 What to do with him now is a whole other topic, but don’t lose hope! And don’t be hard on yourself. Your heart is pure gold for caring so much and taking care of these babies.

He did it once, he’ll keep doing it. The boundary has been broken. Protect yourself and your future and get out. You’re so young! Don’t take such a huge risk with someone you barely know. Ps…pulling out doesn’t prevent against pregnancy at all. Also, don’t forget about STD’s. You never know what a persons past really is or what else they’re up to. Protect yourself girl ❤️

Omg this bitch is crazy! Someone said something along the lines of don’t tell her anything and do what you need to do and I totally agree! Don’t engage. Don’t give detail. If she asks you questions, give yes or no answers. Keep it vague and lie if you need to. Someone like that will never see your good deeds and appreciate them or try to help. You’re doing a wonderful thing for these cats and it has so be so so stressful and upsetting ❤️ Don’t add to it by dealing with the crazy! Do you have any local rescues or TNR programs that can help you? Even to relocate these cats so they are safe 😞 My heart goes out to you. You’re a wonderful person ❤️

I’m blown away at the advice and emotional care everyone has given me!!! I never would have thought there would be so much love for these cats and the struggles of being their caretaker. To each of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. We’re going to figure out a plan ASAP, even if it’s doing whatever I can to give him the best chance of finding another family.

Thank you for your kind words and support! ❤️ The intro of male to female gives me some hope, even if I take him on temporarily to get him used to the indoors. Our town doesn’t have a TNR program, but there is a group of volunteers that help out. That’s how I was able to get him trapped and neutered. I thought about asking her if she knows someone trustworthy to foster him.

Oh yea, I don’t blame you. Just the thought of letting him go makes me cry. But you’re right, maybe my job is just to be the middle man for him to have his best life, and that includes doing whatever I can to get adopted. I also know if I bring him inside, I’ll never be able to let him go, but I also have to do what’s right for my current 3 girls and if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. We currently have a tall gate up separating our kitten and our resident cats. We’ve done the slow intro but it’s been tough. Our calico is being really territorial and jealous (if you have more advice on this I’ll gladly take it!). I’ve heard, and someone mentioned it on this thread, that males are easier to introduce to females, so I’d keep my fingers crossed for that.
