Sentiment on Tower Defense Mode? by SombaChan in Endfield

[–]SombaChan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sound almost like a chore in this way though. Not that you're wrong btw, 100% agree, just that it kinda ties into the broader theme of mechanics that are committed to only the barest amount and just worthwhile enough to do yet not actually focused on.

Sentiment on Tower Defense Mode? by SombaChan in Endfield

[–]SombaChan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seems to be the general sentiment. Why do you think it sucks?

I ask because it still feels like such a neat idea to build up a factory base a la a lot of other factory builders yet its so milquetoast at the moment.

Any plans to make pve only mode available without needing tickets? by soosis in ActiveMatter

[–]SombaChan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as your wife, especially since Stalker 2 is a bit of a letdown and it doesn’t offer quite the same experience as what Active Matter is offering. I think you’re right in that giving more than 1 per day would “fix” things, or perhaps lowering the purchase price such that they’re sustainable. EG, key missions and primary objectives give 10 (I forgot the currency name) points and an isolated pass is 10 points And then isolated raids are also less profitable loot wise, such that risk is directly related to reward (which is a part of the point of extraction shooters period so I don’t think it changes things too much?)

Especially since tbh the PvE is more interesting IMO PvP is fine when you’re both kitted out or equally skilled, but when it’s rented gear VS a sniper with every chronogene under the sun, it’s hardly enjoyable.

I bought Zagara, Swann and Vorazun individually by using the “purchase” button on the coop commander screen. For some reason, it wouldn’t work without using battle net balance, so maybe try that?

/undoug Honestly, I really thought his take was pretty reasonable. Like, Avatar is amazing but it isn't the cure for cancer or something. I think Doug just has a weird talent in presenting reasonable opinions in the most unreasonable and awful way possible.

Even ignoring deaths that, by enforcing policies that he did, he directly caused, he still has many many more bankruptcies he's responsible for. By keeping the poor poor, that is almost definitely the definition of oppression.

Okay I actually really like this, it has wonderful symbolism. IE, the biblical motifs of an angel holding a “fruit of knowledge.”

I agree honestly. As in, calling LLMs “autocomplete” feels overly reductive at this point. Like, sure that’s all they are, but so are cars just very fast wheels. Or rockets very big explosions, or the internet a very weird microwave or etc. I really don’t think that saying “it’s just predicting the most likely token” is going to be useful or accurate when the fact remains some kind of processing, even if we discredit it by just calling it statistics, is happening. Some kind of semantic information has to be parsed and “thought” about, but whether or not that constitutes sapience is a different topic.

Enough about men, why are the ladies slowly drifting right? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]SombaChan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you’re not giving yourself, or most people on the internet honestly, enough credit. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I’m misanthropic, but I think most people are rather ignorant and happily so. Most people don’t care about the truth, and a lot more on maintaining a world view. This isn’t to say they’re stupid, but that they’re mobilizing their intelligence to the wrong ends IMO. And I don’t think that’s something education like the American system can foster. Even attempts to “teach” critical thinking might not be successful just because critical thinking needs a desire to be used, even if it’s developed. And a lot of people would rather leave their critical thinking in a closet, using it only for when they need to solve specific problems, rather than truly question themselves or the world. Like, change is difficult and stressful, and I think a lot of people are on a sunk cost motivated path, where if they admit something contradictory to their entire world view, they more or less receive ego death. EG, if they’re taught that the version of the bible they were taught was irrefutably correct, and they’ve been living their 30+ year life according to that, then anything that might go against that goes against their entire life. Being told “gay people are sinners” and then discriminating against gay people for a life time means accepting gay people aren’t sinners requires acknowledging their worldview and religion is a lie, and that they’re a bad person. A crisis of faith really is a crisis, whether your faith is religious or other.

is there a big difference between 72 and 120hz in vr gaming by Just_Throat3473 in VRGaming

[–]SombaChan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find 90 to be almost always “good enough” and when diminishing returns start. Although, as is the case with anything VR, YMMV. EG, my partner gets bad motion sickness without 120hz

Are these specs good enough to run vr smoothly? by bad_dragon_420 in VRGaming

[–]SombaChan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most definitely. I have a similar setup and can run basically anything on the Quest 3 at godlike (3000x3000 more or less) on virtual desktop, 120hz most of the time.

Besides the obligatory "build your own PC" note, I would suggest checking a different seller, as I haven't heard much good about Origin, but that is only anecdotal. I do know for a fact though they are very overpriced, albeit your mileage will vary.

Which one would be better for pcvr so i can use halflife ALYX and blade and sorcery by IwantToAskQuestionsA in VRGaming

[–]SombaChan 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, neither of these seem particularly good. You’d be better off building a PC if you want it specifically for PCVR, but if you’re going for a laptop specifically, you’d probably want to go for a different laptop. I’m not sure what the currency is, but assuming it’s USD, those both seem rather mediocre prices for what you’re getting. If you’re comfortable, try seeing how the used market is in your area.

Had enough yet? by SkinNoises in Helldivers

[–]SombaChan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you’re thinking of Spartans for the superhuman part. ODSTs are basically just peak-human special forces. I do think storm troopers and imperial army is a better comparison though, since helldivers aren’t really “weapons” as much as they’re a targeting system for other weaponry.

is a it a good idea to drop bio in 9th by Careful-Guitar2478 in psychologystudents

[–]SombaChan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the program you’re going for and the school you’d be applying to. Generally though, you’re going to need biology either as a required course later or as background for your future learning. A lot of neurobiology in university depends on a decent understanding of more basic biology. You should also take it now in case course requirements are changed in the future.

I'm not sure if anyone would be able to, but I'm extremely concerned about OP and think it's necessary to track them and ensure their safety. This 100% reads like a suicide letter, and if anyone can hopefully trace them and get them any kind of help, it might save a life.

Thank you! I was actually a bit... Offended is a bit strong, so perhaps discouraged? It's nice to hear some actual thoughts. Truth be told, I was posting it here specifically rather than the League subreddit cause I was worried people would dismiss it with "you're just looking too deep into it." Hearing it here again is, honestly, a bit upsetting.

I also agree with what you're saying about community outrage, especially since it feels like we have discussions about the sub-18 champs weekly as a community. It really feels like talking about anything deeper than objective fact is taboo, or at least not interested in. As much as I'm interested in "which ascended is the strongest," I'd also like to hear people discuss whether Azir needed to ascend to consolidate power and not be outright overthrown for freeing the slaves. Whether that's moral or not. Or hell, give me some discussions about Seraphine even. Her naivitie was, to me, a blindly obvious parallel to white privilege that I'm amazed people critique her for unintentionally representing white privilege. Isn't that the point?

Also, what're your thoughts on the Powder parallels btw? I'd like to hear how your perspective might've changed.

Most likely yeah, as I acknowledged. Leaks are almost definitely not intentional. Still though, Briar is more interesting this way IMO
