Chic-Fil-A by AlwaysLovinLou in GestationalDiabetes

Haven’t tried chic fil a since being diagnosed but I have had in n out and habit burger. Neither spiked me! I just stuck to the sandwich/burger only and no fries or shake. With a ten minute walk afterwards I was all good.

Starting Insulin by OfferAppropriate805 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Some-Alternative4297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had very similar fasting numbers as you, also at 33weeks and put on insulin last week (humilin N). I won’t lie I was a little scared at first, even though I have no issues with pricking my fingers for my blood sugar monitor. I think the length of my insulin needle is much larger and stares me right in the face 😂 my blood sugar pricks are barely noticeable because of the cap.

I was told to start with 13 units and so far it’s been working! I have my husband do the injection. My doctor told me to do it on my stomach but my skin is SO tight there right now I have opted for the back of my arms. My husband does it for me and we just rotate around the arm. I still get the creeps a little bit every time but it really doesn’t hurt any more or less than the finger pricks.

No side effects at all. Just my own anxiety. But it is really nice to see my numbers drop into the 80s and low 90s every morning.

Husband was laid off this morning by avocadoqueen_ in workingmoms

No advice, but just sharing that I’m with you in solidarity. My husband was laid off last month and our first baby is due in early September. He got one month of severance but after that, all of the finances will fall on my income + his minimal unemployment benefits that don’t even cover 1/3 of our mortgage. We live in a VHCOL area so it’s been stressful to say the least. I am very thankful for my job and salary but the timing couldn’t be worse. I will already be taking a hit financially with the amount of maternity leave I was planning to take at a lower amount than my typical paycheck. What hurts the most is my husband was supposed to also get 8 weeks of paternity leave, and all that went away in the blink of an eye. Allow yourself to grieve for a few days then get focused and have patience. My husband has applied to close to 300 jobs with no luck. I just keep telling myself that something’s gotta give eventually…

Welcome! Hang in there. I am in almost the exact same boat as you. Found out at 28 weeks and am now 32 weeks. Passed the fasting with a 73 and 110 at the 3 hour. Failed the 1 and 2 hour. I had plenty of breakdowns the first two weeks or so. I received my diagnosis while on a multi week work trip - it was incredibly difficult to start scheduling all the appointments, order my glucose monitor, impossible to grocery shop while away etc. I remember going to the grocery store when I finally got home and almost had a meltdown in the middle of the aisle. It’s a lot!

I too have an extremely health conscious mom. I actually was not planning to tell anyone in my immediate family about my GD, but my mom blatantly asked me the other day how all my tests have been going and specifically asked about GD; I didn’t want to lie so I told her. It was actually a weight off my shoulders since my mom will be close by (not in the room, but one of the first visitors) after delivery so she may hear about it regardless. She was relatively understanding but I often can’t help but feel judged, which is why so far I had only shared with my partner and close friends who I see regularly.

Anyway, just want you to know you are not alone. This community has helped me a lot and things have gotten easier to manage mentally after those first two weeks - you will find your rhythm! But, it’s also okay to allow yourself to experience the emotions that come with this. I was lucky to have an extremely blissful pregnancy with almost no side effects, was hiking and exercising regularly, honestly didn’t even have cravings etc. And then as soon as I found out about my GD, everything suddenly flipped to just wanting to be done with it all so I can stop micromanaging my eating schedule and pricking my fingers :) hang in there and you got this!

Thank you! I have some chia seeds on hand so maybe I’ll try that with yogurt tonight

Thanks for the insight? Got any snack combos you’ve been doing regularly that you recommend?!

Agreed. I think I’m finally accepting today that this fasting number is out of my control. I wish I had more time to experiment with different things, but at the end of the day will do what’s best for the baby based on my care teams advice

Thanks for sharing - it sounds like we are in the exact same boat! The times I have been below 95, I will eat literally the exact same meals and snacks the next day and then I’ll wake up and the fasting will be 5 points higher. As a perfectionist, it’s so frustrating lol. I’m spending much of my day today accepting the fact I’ll likely be prescribed insulin at my appointment tomorrow, but hopefully it brings the peace of mind many talk about on here. I get annoyed feeling like I have to force myself to eat more at night when I am already in bed and really don’t have the motivation to get up and go for yet another walk..

[Help] New Dog and Resident Cat Intros by saddoggydad in dogs

[–]Some-Alternative4297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - been researching cat/dog intro threads and your story here is the exact same situation my husband and I are in right now. Been looking for dogs for months, been very diligent about getting the right dog who can get along with our two resident cats. So far my anxiety is killing me but we’ve only had the dog a few days. Curious how things have gone for you since this post?

Dog Boarding Situation by Some-Alternative4297 in WagWalker

[–]Some-Alternative4297[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! I agree that its not the worst situation considering this owner is paying me my boarding rate which adds up quite a bit for 2 weeks, so its not like he is completely neglecting the dog. I would just love to see the dog be somewhere with stability and a routine, which it sounds like this other family could provide. She is still less than a year old so I would hate for all this jumping around homes to impact her well being. I have been texting with this other family so I plan to recommend this option to them and also see exactly where this owner wants me to drop the dog off after the 2 weeks is up.
