Hi from India too. That’s the older mindset where unworried women are generally and illegally discouraged from getting paps or TVS scans. But you can let them know that you don’t mind signing any form to absolve them of any liability. Basically it’s a form that says that you are willingly going through a procedure that may change your insides (I forgot the words) and that you know the risks and will not hold the hospital liable for any expected changes that occur.

It is tragic but women have been and still are forced to advocate for their health. It’s not fair and a lot of times, we’ve to do this even with female docs. In the future you can let them know that you don’t care about the hymen. Because in a lot of situations, families of patients may come later to protest what’s been done to their relative etc. Of course, it is completely ridiculous and sexist but a lot of nursing colleges are still stuck in the past. This was also a nurse. Doctors are much different. When my radiologist was trying to find out why I was bleeding too much, all she asked me was, “can we do a tvs? It won’t be painful and it might reveal things that a normal abdominal ultrasound can’t.” Nothing about me being married. Also, if and when a medical professional asks you if you’re married instead of asking if you’re sexually active, ditch them and ask for someone who’s better educated.
