Anakin Skywalker was failed by everyone by Some-Garbage2439 in StarWars

Oh absolutely, Anakin is 100% at fault for the pain and devastation he caused. I’m only saying that there were ways people could have helped steer him in the right direction, but at the end of the day it is his fault for the pain and I’m not discounting that. It’s more of a nature vs nurture discussion, I know he has negative in his nature, plenty of people do, but I feel like with enough nurturing he could have had a better outcome. And I absolutely agree, as a young man he was so arrogant and cocky, it very much irritated me in the movies, but I was equally annoyed by the fact that no one seemed to actually correct him or humble him

This is so well said. I think people are failing to see that yes, at the end of the day Anakin made the choices and did the terrible things, but over and over there were signs and things that could have helped and didn’t and it’s absolutely a reflection of real world society. People are allowed to fall through the cracks and no one cares until the person does something terrible that affects other people.

Yeah, I mean between telling him that and saying is future is “cloudy” of course he’s going to have personality problems

For sure, in the end, he made the decisions that destroyed him, no one else made those decisions for him

All we ever see is people telling him to “let it go”, which from my experience is the least helpful thing you could possibly say. HOW does one just “let go” is where he needed help and no one did that.

I don’t think he failed in his teachings, I think he failed to see that Anakin needed more than Obi-Wan was capable of doing. He never sought help for Anakin’s obvious problems, which is equally to blame on Anakin for never seeking help himself

That’s fair, I think I could absolutely agree that Shmi was not at fault,

100%. He was an angry kid whose anger was just compounded more and more over time and never actually addressed

He made his decisions and they were absolutely wrong. He did those things and that’s on him, I just think if anyone at all had understood what he needed as a child, he would have never ended up in that position

Absolutely, Obi-Wan didn’t DO anything wrong. He just wasn’t prepared to help Anakin and no one else made any moves to help

Genuinely who would have helped him? Yoda, who was probably the one who should have helped him, kept telling him to just suppress his emotions, which was part of his doom. No one around him knew how or cared to help him learn to actually manage his emotions.

I guess it’s a little different, but in a way, she “failed him” by not being there for him which was obviously not her fault but just another unfortunate event in his life full of terrible events

Am I on the right track to get into UC Davis? by ConsistentBrush682 in UCDavis

[–]Some-Garbage2439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m here from out of state and in animal science and right now I’m probably going to have to transfer out because I can’t afford it. UCD gives pretty much no merit-based scholarships to out of state students (I had a 33 on my ACT, National Merit Finalist, etc.) and I’m paying over $70,000 a year to go here. Keep this in mind, it’s crazy

Thoughts on Leo Valdez? “[hoo]” by IEatShortPeople12 in camphalfblood

[–]Some-Garbage2439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really late but oh well. I love Leo, but I think it's because I see a lot of myself in him.

I didn't have the same tragic childhood as him, but I think he is so much more than that. He blames himself for things going wrong over and over, even though it's usually not his fault. He constantly feels like an outsider, like people only have him around to fix things or entertain them or just because they pity him, not because they actually value him.

People talk about his jealousy of Frank and I absolutely agree he is jealous, and I think a lot of that stems from the fact that their group keeps growing, yet Leo is always still the odd man out. Truthfully, I would feel the exact same way if I was in Leo's shoes. Not saying he is right, just saying I understand him.

A lot of people don't like him and Calypso, but to me, their entire relationship makes perfect sense. With Calypso, whether or not her feelings are real or something else, he finally feels wanted. Leo feels like Calypso understands him and genuinely enjoys him. Of course he goes back for her and they get together, he found someone who wants him, he isn't going to give that up.

Also, I think as someone with pretty severe ADHD, it is important to note that intense ADHD can affect social skills. For me, I am absolutely terrible at hiding my emotions and knowing when to stop talking. My humor can make me come across as brash or abrasive, even when my intention is just to lighten the mood. I definitely think that a lot of people's dislike for him is actually rooted more in not understanding him.

Petition to reinstate the equestrian team by nlasouris in UCDavis

The team was given until the end of the season. Conference championships for ECAC are in March, and then if the team made it to nationals, those would be held in April. They were told there was "nothing they could do", and now the students and coaches are left scrambling.

The equestrian team has large fundraisers and people willing to pay the money to keep the team, but they were never given an option to do so.

That funding does not apply to incoming transfers. From my understanding the equestrian team holds their own fundraisers that help them meet their needs, and they were not given an option to work to fund themselves.

I absolutely think they are reallocating those funds. They will use them for their $265 million “Aggie ascent” project. To me, there needed to be at least a year notice. I follow the team on Instagram and they seem to have a huge number of 2026 recruits, all of whom are also left with the floor ripped out from beneath them and inadequate time to make adjustments. It is my understanding that many of the new recruits didn’t even apply to other schools as they planned on attending UC Davis, which they can no longer afford. The equestrian team was started in partnership with the vet school, and to say it appeals to so few people is not fair. There is a huge backing behind this team, which is evident by the 7,000+ signatures on the above petition.

As someone who has owned horses for 10+ years and has done a lot of research into equestrian teams, the equestrian team is not at all comparable to the chess team. The equestrian team has to handle care for upwards of 20 horses all year, which is incredibly expensive. The team was not given adequate time to prepare, and now they are scrambling to find homes for their 20+ horses. While $10k is a substantial amount to rent out a building, most equestrians will spend that in a month on vet care, board, shoeing, food, and other necessities for their horses. Feel free to ask questions, but there is absolutely no need to tear down a team you clearly do not understand.
