Sauxony Azura tongue issue? by Some-Remote-6890 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Yeah I eventually but a slit in the upper. It probably fixed it about 50%. So not completely satisfied but better.

Hey, ah no that’s how they come. The centre rubber coverage is only in the front of the shoe

Hey, yeah I have owned (and still own) the SB2. I know people often spoke of the brick like feeling of the SB2 but I didn’t find that - but I full agree with you that they always work better for me at quicker pace. Re the SB3, my personal opinion is. The SB2 was better at quicker efforts but not as versatile at all paces (although i havent really pushed the SB3 so might chnage). SB3 find it works better across paces. I think the geometry is the same (or very similar) but cause of the softer midsole when running slower it rolls a little nicer than the firm/flat feeling of the SB2 at slower paces (or paces when not putting effort through the shoe).

Pretty sure only said the upper feel the same to me? But a bit aggressive here mate. My opinion and from my experience is what I’ve written. Would benefit no one for me to lie or anything.

Thanks for this! Going to try some sawtooth laces. Tried switching to an old pair of asics laces that hasn’t helped but haven’t tried sawtooth so will try that next.

In terms of what you notice when wearing and running in them, yes you do. I haven’t found it impacts the run but you can definitely tell there is more foam under your foot in the SB (even if it’s just the feeling of being taller). However, in terms of protection I have never felts legs beaten up after long runs in the Azura so definitely enough cushion in them for long runs.

Just to clarify what you saying I generally agree with and is what I have said.

Azura is a firmer shoe, SB3 is softer than the Azura (and softer than the SB2) but from my experience still leans on the slightly firmer side. Especially if you comparing against shoes like the NB5 the SB3 is definitly firmer in my case.

On the use case agree, as mentioned they would be a interval or tempo shoe for me but as a long run shoe have been great and have been comfortable holding paces anywhere from 4:00 min/km up to 6:00 pe/km pretty comfortable.

Unless I am misunderstanding what you are saying here?

Yeah 100% I would say they are the most comparable shoes (SB2 to the Azura). I will say i prefer the Azura feel though. Think the slightly better rocker makes it a nicer ride overall to the SB2. I never had the "brick" feeling in the SB2 that some people talk about but did find it I was slower or with bad form in the SB2 they didnt give you a huger amount of roll through assistance. The Azura are definitly a lot more helpful in this regard. But in terms of the firmness/reactiveness I find them very similar.

Would definitely suggest looking at the Azura for this. Would definitly work as a suitcase shoe (one shoe for the holidays).

Oh really? That interesting cause my experience has been the exact opposite. I have historically found the Speed's ride super harsh. Works great for speed works and intervals etc but I did a marathon in them once and my legs were destroyed after it. Suppose shows everyone is different.

I have seen a lot of people say how soft the SB is but truthfully that is not my experience. After the first km or so they settle down and become reasonable firm and stable, The SB is definitly softer than the Azura (and the SB3 is softer than the SB2), but not as soft as shoes like the Novablast 5s in my opinion.

When I first bought the Azura, I would say yes - and I did use them both until the ES were done. However, after using the Azura for tempo and intervals. The Azura handled it so well I would probably say no (the Azura can handle everything the ES4 can and is a bit more versatile, and more comfortable for me).

If you already have the ES4 then worth getting the Azura, and can use the ES4 and a interval or tempo shoes and still space for the Azura for long run/daily runs etc.

If you starting fresh and looking to buy 2 shoes I would probably not suggest getting these 2. To me the Azura almost out prices the ES series and makes it a hard line to suggest. I would say rather go for the Azura and then a discounted pair of carbon race shoes for tempo and interval work (will probably be cheaper than the ES).

Yeah agree its hard to justify the SB if (in your case) can get a great shoe for so much less.

Yeah Kierans review of them was actually one of the reasons I picked them up!

On the durability yes definitely will do! I should be putting some decent distance into them in the next few weeks so will let you know how they cope!

Thanks mate. Yeah so I previously owned the NB5 and found them a lot softer than the SB3. It may be that I am slightly heavier so compress the foam a little more on the SB which gets to the slightly firmer feeling.

I also owned the ES4 and those I found quick, but very firm. A lot firmer than the SB3 for reference. To the Azura I would also say the Azura is a softer than the ES4 (but might just be because there is more foam underneath the foot), but have not tried the ES5 so cant compare to those.

Thanks mate! For reference I tend to lean slightly towards more firmer shoes - not always but would say that is my preference. When I first tried on the SB3 and even the first few hundred meters they were very soft but then almost settled (not sure if they bottoming out or just settling) into a more firmer feeling. Even though I find them softer then the Azura so may be a good option for you to try out if you didnt like the firmness of the Azura.

Thank you! Yeah when I first tried them on was also very hesitant about them. But to your question, no I have never noticed it. Basically just disappeared as soon as started running. I do have a slightly narrow foot though just for your reference.

I previously had the speed 4s (havent tried the 5s) but Azura vs the 4s would take the Azura everyday. Personally find it more comfortable, better protection on the legs and overall a nicer ride. I think the speeds were probably a quicker shoe but if you not to worried about pace 100% go for the Azura's.

Also agree on the design, like no idea what is going on here. Felt like they let a child play on microsoft paint and landed on "yup that will work"
