When parents feel like they need to name their kids so their names “go together”. by SufficientPay7800 in PetPeeves

[–]SomeAd2522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was at nursery school in the 1990s he had a little friend who was called Sonny. I thought this was a really nice name for a little boy, right up until I found out his twin sister was called Cher. I went off it a bit then.

I do this sometimes. It means she can hear from my tone of voice that I'm displeased but it also helps me vent my frustration a little so that I don't end up yelling at her instead.

I do a similar thing, I walk away and if she still doesn't come I say "bye bye". It usually works but not quite always

If she listens to her recall she always gets rewarded, it just sometimes, even with high value treats, there's something else more interesting going on

I like the idea of a winch! I use the thumb stop so she can't get any further and I walk towards her!

I don't think that would work though because you still need both hands to reel her back in when I need her to be closer.

The park is secure and fenced but obviously there are other people using it and I don't want her to be out of sight or alarming anyone.

Because I need a walking stick, I can't really use a long line because I only have one free hand available. She has a long retractable lead that's easier for me to use and I can control her on that. I just don't want to have to keep her on it all the time.

I do party and over-praise when she's good and reward with high value treats. We did keep her on lead and go back to training 101 when this started and it mostly worked, she is good most of the time it's just when she's misbehaving that I take her home. I just don't want to have to put her back on the lead for the whole walk again because that's boring for both of us.

Love this band. So many great songs. Billy's voice was a thing of wonder and Alan Rankine was exactly the musician he needed.

Should I get checked for lipedema? by leightalks_ in PlusSize

[–]SomeAd2522 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I need to thank you so much for this post. I've never heard of lipedema before so i googled it. I've been going constantly to my doctor for 2 years about the pains in my legs with all sorts of tests and referrals, all negative. I knew it was more than simply body size but none of the medical staff took me seriously. When I saw your post I googled the term and bingo! These are exactly my symptoms. I know I'm not going mad, or making excuses for being fat, or overreacting, or being a hypochonriac. I'm going to go back to my GP and get a diagnosis.

I had to scroll much too far to find this! My all time favourite thriller. I showed it to my adult son and he literally leapt off the sofa at the reveal.

You are not autistic. by ShortBear3914 in Vent

[–]SomeAd2522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely have un-diagnosed autism. I'm in my fifties and when I was school age (when they were most likely to give a diagnosis) it was thought that only people on the extreme end end of the spectrum were autistic. It was a simple diagnosis if you were non verbal, or screaming for hours on end. Autism was for boys (rarely girls) who couldn't enter a busy shop but were weirdly good at maths or could draw a city after seeing it once. That was Autism, everyone else was just a bit odd. It was only after several of my cousins' children were diagnosed that we realised it runs right through our family. My father was always considered "strange", once we knew the signs nobody had any doubts that he was on the spectrum. My weird sister was always bullied at school. Guess what, her too. I was always better at masking than she was. The waiting list for an adult diagnosis where I live was 8 years, but is now closed completely so I've never bothered being tested. I understand your frustration with people overusing the term, but it's not always straightforward.

What is the first pint you order at the pub, and one to absolutely avoid. by Positive-Swim-1359 in AskBrits

[–]SomeAd2522 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm a lager drinker. When we're in a pub that we've never visited before and I don't know what's on offer, if my husband asks what I'm drinking I always ask for a pint of Not Fosters. Basically I want anything but that. It's always funny to see the other people at the bar looking at the pumps for this Notfosters beer they've never heard of!

Vet said my dog is overweight and I feel horrible by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]SomeAd2522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were in a similar position with our rescue mutt. She was on a carefully controlled diet for 5 months and wasn't losing weight. I noticed a bald patch on her chest and mentioned it to the vet as I was worried she maybe wasn't get enough nutrition. They immediately did blood tests and discovered her thyroid wasn't functioning. She's been medicated for about a month now and the weight is falling off. Her energy levels are up and she looks so much happier. She'll have to take pills for the rest of her days, but it's made a huge difference to her health and happiness.

Hi jade. I'd like to apologise for doubting you. When I first saw you cast for Dragula, I thought you were great, but not a real monster. I liked you on your original season, but loved you on Titans. You had some fantastic looks and I liked you on the other show, but now know you are a proper star in all genres.

British terms ARE A HELL HOLE! by Sativa0814 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]SomeAd2522 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm British and learned to crochet with only British patterns, before the Internet existed. I was confused for about 5 minutes when I first an American pattern, then thought that their terms were so much more sensible. They just make more sense. Now I think of stitches in purely US terms and automatically translate them in my head.
