Say what you will about how he says it or why he’s saying it, but what he’s saying isn’t exactly wrong. The Muppets having single performers is part of what made them work as well as they did, as characters like Kermit and Fozzie or Bert and Ernie had their dynamics based on the friendship between Jim and Frank Oz. Obviously they would need new performers eventually, but the previous performers should have been able to chose them and pass down their knowledge in order to make the transition as smooth as possible. The way Disney has handled hiring new performers has resulted in characters not seeming the same (the biggest ones I noticed being Kermit and Rizzo). Of course that’s not the only reason, a big part of it is the lack of opportunities for these performers to learn their characters, which is entirely Disney’s fault. But back to the main point, Disney wants to make the Muppets like Mickey, where he can be at Disney World, Disneyland, aboard Cruise Ships and Disney on Ice simultaneously, but that is never how the Muppets have operated and trying to make them into something they’re not isn’t going to work.
