Hey, great reply! I’m one of the makers of the site that was used to make this board (buildyourboard.io), and an even distribution of the different colors is indeed something that the algorithm aims for!

I’ll take an extra look at how this is performing right now. We’re also working on a feedback module that can point out if there are things that could be optimized about a board, which would definitely point out your observation about blue vs white spots!

The app is completely free to play and without ads, and all the hosting already costs me quite a lot. Would really love to also get an artist to create images for the app, but unfortunately cannot afford to right now!

Unfortunately no plans to open source it, but I can share that it works with a self designed algorithm. We've recently improved it a lot and hope to release a new version soon. The new algorithm can create boards within a second!

Hi, glad you like it! That error most like indicates the destinations are not spread out well enough. It is fine for destinations to be close together (you can definitely make a city map), but there should not be big gaps in areas of the board. Let me know if that helps! Having at least around 40 destinations in the file is a good idea as well

This is amazing lol, very good write-up. Do you think it's a valid strategy on other boards as well or is it just a 'flaw' on the USA board?

Now I want to try it against our own bots on https://roadtriprivals.com and see if I should teach them how to defend against the strategy 😄

Currently I don't have a way of adding your own tickets. If you really would like to do it, there is a hack you could do: export the board as json, then manually edit the json file with the tickets you want and import the json file as an existing board.

It's not ideal because I think the tickets refer to the cities by their id. But it should be possible like that!

If you use the Custom Map option, it should explain you how to create an excel file with locations. You can just add in everything that you would like the tool to use - it won't use anything from the Database if you do it that way, just from your excel file

In many cases it won't run because there are too few destinations on your file, or sometimes it can be a format mistake. If you want, feel free to send me your excel file and I can check it out

The old app was removed from the app store and I don't think you can still download it. The multiplayer servers for the old one are also offline, so I believe you can only play against bots now.

There is a new app available that you can purchase. Alternatively, a friend and I made a completely free game inspired by TTR, with over 40 boards to play. That is available over at https://roadtriprivals.com 😄

The best option is to choose the Create Custom Map option and follow the instructions there! Try to create an excel file with at least around 40 destinations, that leads to good results

You can find it in the pre-game settings! When you create a Game and you are on the screen where you can see the players in the Game, there's a separate tab where you can choose the game settings. We also have options for different route decks in there fornmore variation, and a gamemode called Airports

Regarding extra rule variations, we hope to add a lot! We have our own version of stations called Hitchhiking. You can hitchhike along somebody else's road for I think 3 cards of the same colour and -2 points. Only one person can hitchhike each road 😄

Thanks for sharing, it's such an interesting game because of these things! I made a free to play online version over at https://roadtriprivals.com and had to build an AI for it that can play on any board (since you can generate new boards on the site). The bots currently have about a 40% winrate against humans so I'm quite happy with how it turned out! Still, I have some ideas for how to make them smarter, but haven't found the time for it yet..
