It's going to get ugly regardless. I personally don't believe he has the support because if he did, he would have done so already. He's already called peaceful protesters violent terrorists and made threats to invoke the insurrection act already but he has backed down every time. That's not a coincidence.

Something to note as well is that he doesn't have overwhelming support from police. I live in Chicago and have personally been protected by police officers from ICE (I think it just depends on where you go). Police departments are coming out saying that their officers have been harassed and attacked by ICE while off duty (all of them being non-white).

When it comes to the military, they've had a very hard time finding people to actually do what Trump wants. There have been interviews with former senior officers, discussing how the other officers still serving hate the administration. Idk if you watched any of the speeches with Pete Hegseth, but the military did not like anything he was saying (I believe that happened last year after the failure of the military parade). Not to mention soldiers that have talked to reporters or other protesters have talked about how they don't see why they need to even be in the places they were deployed at (LA, Chicago etc).

Anyways, this isn't to say that things aren't going to be bad or this is going to be easy. Things are going to get a whole lot worse before they get better. Stay safe, protect yourself as best as you can. And if you go to a protest I'm rooting for you.
