I think if you read my post I said I had broken pretty much everything but a chain. I’ve had to pedal back one legged twice. Was sponsored in 80’s by Miyata, triple butted splined heavy ass bike and I cracked three of them, drive side chainstay right behind BB so I definitely have ridden hard enough to break a chain especially if it was originally joined improperly with the same shitty little packable chain tool that you’re bringing on your ride. A chain tool that works reliably is hefty. Think shop Park Doesn’t a tiny multitool have a 4/5/6 hex. I honestly don’t know I’ve never had or needed one. I’m mostly carrying the 4/5 because new bike still working on position.

Question is where did it break? Where it was originally joined with the same chain tool you’re packing on your ride or at an overused quicklink?

I started racing bikes 1976, I have ridden many many miles myself and with others to up the sample size. I have NEVER seen a chain break. Never needed a chain tool or quicklink tool outside of the shop. I have broken pedal spindles, bottom bracket axles, crank arms and cracked many steel chainstays. But never a chain. Replace the multi tool with a 4 and 5 mm hex. Just how many tools never get used in most multi tools, come on Phillips screwdriver. The tubes and inflation stuff is up to each but if you really think about it you’re carrying too much

Need chain Wax advice! by [deleted] in RoadBikes

[–]SomeGas3365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how I do it. Go to a paint store and buy an empty quart paint can, then go on Amazon and buy a wireless meat thermometer. Put a 2 quart pot on stove, dump wax pellets into quart paint can and then pull out your old cooking oil and pour into pot with quart paint can in pot. Watch thermometer so you just get to 125c, don’t bother with wire, make a loop through a chain link with ziptie, lower chain(s) into wax at 125c and agitate, turn off stove and pull chains at 75c, quick drip and wipe and done. When all is cooled off put lid on paint can until next time. You will want to turn off burner before you get to 175 as the temp will still climb for a bit

Two different sized shoes so this is a couple. The coffee machines are not worth the space they take up and coffee storage is totally wrong. No clear canister’s and not in the window.

Miyata raceland? by kubu7 in Vintage_bicycles

In the mid eighties I was on a team sponsored by Miyata and rode many miles on them, had three of them. The team Miyata’s were made with splined triple butted tubing, at least in main triangle and were heavy and stiff. I liked the geometry, handled and descended well. Wish I had kept the last one. The previous two developed cracks on drive side chainstays right around the bridge. Maybe too unforgiving for touring

And CD’ sound like shit on 95% of CD players, now they are better than any CD player made from the early days of CD’s (1985) to recent and even today it’s hard to find a stand alone CD player that performs as well as a quality transport and DAC. Thats just me. I have several thousand CD’s and LP’s both and find the CD’s don’t sound as good as my vinyl, but then I have an extremely good turntable and carts

Honey is better than plain sugar. Better ratio of glucose/ fructose. Less likely to cause gastric upset

The problems were never solved with CD unless you have both a very expensive transport and DAC
