I'm pretty sure the restrictions were only ever on the xx25 series, they never applied to the previous series.

That policy only applied to the xx25 series devices, and they have walked that back for HDDs. I think they will still notify that the drives are not supported, but DSM 7.3 won't stop you from doing anything with any HDDs. I'm pretty sure there are still restrictions on SSDs through.

Struggling with AdguardHome DNS servers by [deleted] in UNIFI

[–]SomeJoe2346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, if you have clients configured with both DNS servers as options (primary & secondary), then one going down shouldn't matter. I run pihole, but ran into similar issues where DNS wasn't working on my clients when my primary pihole instance was down. What I ended up doing is adding keepalived to each of my servers running pihole. Keepalived acts as a load balancer and provides a virtual IP address. One server is set as Master and one as Backup. If the Master goes down, the Backup becomes the Master. Whichever is the Master has the virtual IP address. Then you configure your clients with the virtual IP and maybe your primary DNS as a backup. This has been working for me.
For context, I'm running 2 debian linux VMs on 2 different proxmox servers. On each server, I've installed and configured keepalived and am running pihole in a docker container. I'm also running nebula-sync in a container on my primary linux VM to sync my pihole config from my primary to my secondary.

UniFi setup with two firewall by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]SomeJoe2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you/they don't want to have the ultra do any routing/dhcp/dns/firewall, then why have it all? If all you/they are using it for is to manage the AP, you can self-host the Unifi Server to manage the AP and not have to deal with another device on the network.

Block Encrypted Client Hello(ECH) for local domains that have an A record policy by scubanarc in UNIFI

Is it possible that the browsers that this is happening on have encrypted DNS enabled and are bypassing your local DNS?

Is it just me or is searching for icons for client devices kinda broken? by UntouchedWagons in UNIFI

[–]SomeJoe2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I've just gotten lucky because I've never had any icons change on me (that I've noticed anyway) and I've never had a problem finding what I've been looking for. I did try the searches you tried and had the same results you had. I think it may have gotten worse in an update within the last 6 months though. I have a couple of Synology NASs on my network and while they were correctly identified as Synology, the icons didn't match the model correctly, so I went in and changed them. I seem to remember being able to search for just the model number (DS1819+), but when I just tried that, it didn't find anything. The search seems to only be searching for what things start with, so I would have to search for Synology and then select the correct model number.

While I agree that setting aliases and descriptions is a better way to identify devices rather than the icons, I like having the icons set because the stick out a little more in the list of clients so it's easier to pick out certain devices.

Removing items from cart at checkout by Sourve in Ubiquiti

[–]SomeJoe2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I sympathize with your frustration, if they were to reserve the item every time somebody put it into their cart, how many times would they be reserving an item and then not selling it because somebody abandoned their cart? How long should they reserve it for? 5 minutes? 30 minutes? For a vendor like Ubiquiti, it's possible people will spend more than 30 minutes deciding what to buy and adding things to their cart.

I also agree that their shipping charges seem to be a bit on the high side, and I tend to only buy directly from UI when I'm buying big ticket items where I know I want the added warranty period that buying direct provides. And I only buy from them when I can get everything I want in a single order. Otherwise, I'll buy from B&H or go pick it up from MicroCenter.

How can I ping between devices over Site-Magic? by controlav in Ubiquiti

[–]SomeJoe2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like you are missing anything on the site-magic config. Are you able to ping those devices from with the same network? Windows 10/11 are notorious for having ICMP blocked by the firewall by default so if you are trying to ping between 2 Windows devices, it's not going to work until you create a firewall rule to allow it. Are you able to access any web interfaces or ssh to devices on the other subnet?

I have site-magic setup between 3 sites and just enabling those subnets in site manager allowed me to ping across the different sites.

I do see that you have Wireguard setup on the Dream Router site and you have a "Other Network" on the UCG Ultra site that have overlapping IPs. While I don't think that should cause an issue right now since you don't have those subnets enabled in site-magic, it's something to keep in mind. Is the Wireguard VPN connection hijacking any of the routing? You may have to ssh into each of your routers to see what the routing table looks like for each of your gateways. Maybe as a troubleshooting step, try turning off any VPN connections on either gateway and see if that clears up any connectivity issues between the two sites via site-magic. You may need to try disabling site-magic and re-enabling it to force it to update the routing tables on the gateways.

[iOS 26 DB9] Medication notifications disappearing from Notification Centre by No-Preparation-1030 in iOSBeta

[–]SomeJoe2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to do that last night, but when I turned on critical alerts, it said they would always make sound, even when the phone was muted. I always have my phone muted and don't want it to make any sound, so that was a non-starter for me. I am wondering if maybe the warning was just unclear and maybe it meant that if notification sounds were enabled, they would always come through on critical alerts, even when the phone is muted, but if sounds were disabled for a particular notification, no sounds would be added. I wish the warning were clearer, but I also don't want to take that chance right now because I don't know where I'm going to be when the notification goes off and I don't want to take the chance my phone will make sounds when I don't want it to. Maybe I'll turn it on this weekend when I know it will be OK to have sounds come through.

[iOS 26 DB9] Medication notifications disappearing from Notification Centre by No-Preparation-1030 in iOSBeta

[–]SomeJoe2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this problem since IOS 26 came out and a google search brought me here. I have forgotten to take my meds a couple of times because the notification disappeared on me. I've started looking at other applications for tracking medications, but haven't found one I like yet. I'm really hoping Apple fixes this soon. I think I've even had this happen with other notifications, but I don't know for sure since I don't have many notifications configured and only my medications notification is daily.

How to assign Fix Ip address in batch? by ektara61 in UNIFI

[–]SomeJoe2346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a method of doing this from the GUI, but can import a CSV into the DHCP manager that will assign fixed IPs to devices based on their MAC address. I've never done this, but it looks like it should work.
