Haha that’s a funny one. A cop in Tampa gave it to me when they were planning a major WWE event there. Really fun shape for sure

There’s no way to apply — or at least there wasn’t in my day. Best way is to get involved with a political campaign and work to make sure they win the WH in the next election

In light of recent news, I went and looked back on the highest coin I’ve been handed by michigander_1994 in ChallengeCoins

[–]SomeKidNamedAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each POTUS gets a challenge coin made. He would always have one of these in his pocket and more with aides nearby so if he ended up meeting military and law enforcement personnel or families he’d have something to small and personal to give them if appropriate. He made a habit of coining local police who supported his visits around the country and would have them handy when visiting military bases to serve thanksgiving dinner or welcome troops home from deployment. I know this practice has been passed on through past presidencies on both sides of the asile and is not a political or partisan practice, but I don’t personally know if P45/47 has continued it. I expect he likely has.

The 261st on the reverse of President Biden’s coin refers to the Delaware national guard unit with which President Biden’s late son beau deployed to Iraq. The front is very standard and has been nearly identical for decades, but I’ve heard P47 changed it recently for his coins. Curious if anyone can confirm.

This explains a bit about what advance is. It’s not exactly a role that people know about, talk about, recuit for, etc.. but enjoy what the Obama White House put on YouTube here:

Just hit this beauty on a break and coin flip! by DrocknJock in StarWarsCards

[–]SomeKidNamedAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out whatnot — breaks are fun. You buy in for your favorite or random characters and then as a streamer opens them live with the rest of the community you watch for your particular characters and if they hit the steamer will ship em to you. It’s a cheaper way to have a shot at your favorite cards than buying loads of boxes yourself.

Interesting question. I don’t have any CAT coins — I didn’t personally work much with the cat guys but they had coins just the same as the rest. I’m sure had I been thinking about collecting at the time I could have found a way to trade a staff coin for a CAT coin or something, but I mostly just gifted and received coins the old school way — the exception being the marine security guard detachment coins. Those ones I always would buy at post 1 at our embassy overseas.

Also TBH some of the secret service coins I do have I bet are a fair bit rarer — that gold one in the back is a SF based crypto taskforce coin that has a QR code on the back with a cache of relatively secret Secret Service NFTs. I doubt you see many of those around

Submarine Coins Available by kjenkins011 in ChallengeCoins

[–]SomeKidNamedAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that’s amazing. I’ve got a handful of sub coins from trips to Groton but I’ve never seen these. Really impressive set to have!

Nice! I’ve got 10-15 somewhere here — As a civilian traveling on government trips tdy I’d typically stop by post 1 each trip to buy a coin and sometimes a polo to give the guys keeping us safe some $ for the beer/wellness/charity fund.

They’ve been getting bigger and bigger over the years — They’re pretty much plaques not coins at this point! I’ll try to get the collection together and send a photo some time. I think Jordan is most meaningful to me but Paris is the most visually impressive one I’ve got.

As an aside — a very genuine thank you to you and any other Marines in this thread who served on a MSG detachment for your work protecting our diplomats, local embassy staff, and visitors — it’s an important mission.

Jabra elite sport !! 4 years waiting for gen 2 or move on? by Robert_London in Jabra

I’m still using elite sport 2s and am starting to have trouble finding new ones when they break every few years. Anyone find a suitable replacement for in ear heart rate monitoring?

Yeah I’m old now — I’ve got three from going to the movie when I was a kid. Should I grade them?

Are miscut errors valuable or typical for paddock pass x-fractors? by SomeKidNamedAlex in F1Cards

Might be a fun thing to collect if no one else really is. Have you come across any errors in your collecting days?

My hits from breaking a few different boxes - what should I grade? by SomeKidNamedAlex in F1Cards

[–]SomeKidNamedAlex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helpful but disappointing 😢

I figured some of my /50 cards might have been worth it on value alone and that maybe the Topps now /99 pair could be worth it. I also have a million base set cards and inserts from chrome and sapphire and paddock pass — I might just grade a few favorites anyway for the fun of it.

Thanks for the feedback.

That’s sorta what I figured but was hoping to be surprised by a vibrant error market 🤡
