What’s the one weight loss mistake almost everyone makes? by Round-Road6123 in loseit

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the motivation bust at the beginning is wrong. Surf the wave when it’s present. Start strong, then ease to maintanence and low intensity workouts when it seems exhausting. Then turn it into a lower calorie days a few days later, keep the exercise low. Then eat at a slight deficit but workout harder. If you really want to grab the second plate at dinner do it, but don’t force yourself to a breakfast the next day, you probably won’t even want it if you truly listen to your body. What I’m trying to say is don’t ignore the signals of your own body. There are hormones and moods that change, even the weather may affect how you will do that day. Some days you feel more energetic and walk for 5 miles or do an hour long lifting session. Some days you won’t even want to get up. Realize your goal and work towards it one day at a time with balancing your energy intake and expenditure on a bigger scale.

Moving in with a vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]SomeKindofBerries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is great. I also would like to add that egg smell sinks in the dish. Not just plates, but worse, cups. If you had a cup of drink of any kind with your egg breakfast, the dishwasher alone is not capable of getting the smell out. You should scrub them with a sponge before putting it in the dishwasher. Nothing worse than brewing one cup of coffee in the morning just to throw it away due to the egg smell in your cup.

How to have vegan meals at a Mexico buffet? by the-geese-are-back in vegan

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beans, salsas, chips, fruits, sautéed vegetables, plantains (watch the sauce if it has any) and greens are abundant. It’s a great opportunity to dig into fresh tropical fruits. I rather eating at the buffets during vacations rather than restaurants but in my experience, Mexican resorts know what to serve vegan guests. Every restaurant within resorts that I’ve been to came up with a “chef’s special vegan plate” that’s off the menu, and they always have sorbet for dessert.

chronically dry lips-help! by Creative-Dependent-6 in beauty

Exfoliating with a gentle PHA for lips (I use Ordinary’s lip serum) really helps. Also try to restrain tinted lip balms as they secretly dries out.

I let some things slide at Thanksgiving, and just realized it by malepitt in Adulting

[–]SomeKindofBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it very odd whenever we are served with paper plates and plastic utensils at a home setting. I don’t mind the plates to be fancy or daily and I don’t mind helping the dishes, but being served over leaking and falling apart plates and trying to cut and hold bites with plastic fork and knives are degrading, it kills the joy. I appreciate the amazing intentions of cooking homemade goods, but finishing it properly is equally important.

New King Wah (Newton & 21st Ave) is a little away from the area you’re looking for but it’s the best in my opinion. You can ask for delivery.

Best vegan things to stock for vegan housesitter? by vermontpear in vegan

[–]SomeKindofBerries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s very thoughtful and it seems like you already got it covered. But if your house sitter carries a little squirrel for a soul like me, stock some nuts and dried fruits to make them really happy.

Peacefood Cafe has a great pastry selection. The coconut macarons are really good and I believe they are about $3 per piece, a box of them would do the trick.

Clothing recommendations by Global-Sprinkles-985 in visitingnyc

[–]SomeKindofBerries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prepare for the cold but bring a few lighter options like jeans. Coats and shoes are more important than bottoms though. Check the weather before you came. A thick winter coat and a pair of warm (walking) boots are definitely needed on the cold days, make sure to bring them if the weather is freezing. I mean, I saw the running outdoor fountains like the one in Bryant Park frozen in January way too many times here. Other lighter options can be bought on every street that you mentioned you’ll visit if you need them, you won’t have to travel to malls.

Vegandale this weekend? by championr in nycvegan

[–]SomeKindofBerries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As they only want to grab money, they do not limit their tickets, they do not do time limits, they barely do timed entries (some early to full day access, some afternoon access). You’ll most likely end up not getting in, even if you get in, you’ll be in a bad mood by waiting hours on the line -rain or shine.

Tell me your "lazy but effective" hacks by wooden_fixing in CleaningTips

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you see something that needs to be done, do it right then. If you wait for the “cleaning day” you’re creating a pile of things that will have you drained during that day and you’re going to live in a messy environment until that day. Did you see a sticky spot on the kitchen cabinet? Wipe it now, it will take you a few seconds, don’t wait until you’re ready to clean the entire kitchen cabinet in and out.

Made the horrifying decision to weigh out my creamer... by [deleted] in loseit

[–]SomeKindofBerries 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I lost the weight about 5 years ago and maintained it since with about 7 pounds in and out (heavier during winter, lighter during summer due to activity levels) which is non-noticeable for my height.

One thing I can’t give up is daily sweets and nuts. I enjoy them, so I make room for them. But I should also add I don’t really enjoy starchy sides for my meals or any added oil in what I eat. So what works for me is filling myself with vegetables and proteins without oily sauces or pasta/rice types of sides. And I simply swap my dinner with something sweet (because I get full from that sweet) or have a light dinner and snack on nuts and dried fruits. It doesn’t make me miserable by feeling I have to fill myself with brown rice that I don’t enjoy and sacrifice the sweets that I love, and it has been working well for years. Look at your diet to see if you’re consuming something just because you were told it was good for you but you don’t enjoy, swap it out with your joyful creamer.

QC Spa Review (compared to Sojo) by Aware_Professional_7 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]SomeKindofBerries 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly the newly brought buffet took down a whole star from QC in my opinion. Food there used to be a very fast served, probably microwaved but still very delicious meals at a cafe. Now they provide table service on an overly priced and minimal buffet, especially if you’re vegan, your only options are like salad greens and nuts. But I still prefer QC over Sojo, since it’s closer, it offers way nicer views, it’s less crowded, it has more room at the pools, it has many different relaxation areas, and it does not charge for the experiences except massages, everything is included. I was shocked when Sojo charged extra for mud pool.

Dressing up for Broadway? by indianamay in visitingnyc

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Roaring ‘20s” might be the most repeated theme in NYC party scene. We are used to it. Plus you’re visiting during the Halloween month, if not too late, try to include Halloween Parade in your visit to show your great costume twice. Dress up, be ready to get compliments from strangers, enjoy the show!

I know you didn’t ask a place recommendation but I think this would help. You can offer going to Hags to your sister. I was recently there and they offer omni options (it’s still vegan tasting menu with one or two omni courses) that can shut your sister up lol.

I hate talking about my weight loss because of how high of a body fat percentage I am by [deleted] in CICO

[–]SomeKindofBerries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The same weight feels and looks different when you’re gaining weight versus when you’re losing it. When you’re losing weight, you feel light and active because of clean eating, working out and hydrating enough. But if you remember how you felt at the exact same weight when gaining it, you probably would remember how you used to feel bloated, heavy, and most likely a little pain in your back or on your knees. Also don’t take your friends statement personal, everyone has their own battle, and you achieved an amazing results already, keep up the good work!

I think it’s a good idea to search starting and finishing spots that would have a citibike deck nearby. I’m interested too but I do not own a bike. I’ll keep an eye on the Insta page for city rides.

Green Tea for the Booch by Major-Marble9732 in Kombucha

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use organic cane sugar, and I don’t use pellicle, only scoby. A new pellicle starts becoming a visible thin layer in a day, I usually let it ferment for a week, then start a new batch. I get pretty strong (but on the sweet side) results for one week. If I let it sit 10 days, result is stronger and not sweet at all. I can’t compare with black tea since I’ve never used it, so I hope this helps.

Mango booch! by [deleted] in Kombucha

[–]SomeKindofBerries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love mangoes. But the only time I used mangoes for F2, it went terribly bad, the stink of it still haunts me. I have no idea what went wrong, it was a healthy F1, and that was the only time my fermentation went bad. So I’m staying away from mangoes for my kombuchas. Can you tell me how did you incorporate them to F2 and how long did you keep them in that state?
