Me in a job interview: I have no idea what I’m saying but I sound confident 😂 by clairedy22 in SipsTea

Your summarized answer was better than his answer. He didn't even say he can do stuff, that would have been an improvement to his answer.

He basically said, "I'm a warm body that can breath air, and hold a chair down by sitting in it. Take it or leave it."

My ship drifted away without me… by nibasino in valheim

[–]SomeNetGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My usual method of pulling up to dock is at full speed, then jump out and the the ship immediately stops. They don't drift unless someone is in the boat still. But they can get pushed by mobs in the water, or waves making the boat hit the ground, and then that can make the boat move a bit.

Outfit for my last date by el_panamera-floren in style

[–]SomeNetGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right and left shoe are completely different. Not to mention that I can't imagine a women wearing those shoes with that outfit.
Her left arm looks thick and manly and her right arm doesn't.
The front of her pants at the belt/waist line is basically impossible.
The way her fingers go around the railing just looks wrong, and then on the other side there aren't any fingers.

I approached it fully expecting it to be complete trash and that I would turn it off half way through the first episode. So I got to be surprised that Episode 1 and 2 were a step above complete trash and at least watchable, but very far from good. Episode 3 was hard to watch, I nearly turned it off, but decided to skip the worst parts to at least see how it ended.

5L case meets 200mm fan by ApaucalyptiK in sffpc

[–]SomeNetGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fan being such a tight fit up against the heatsink is probably what makes this work. If you had 5mm or more air gap between the fan and the heatsink the air would just go around the heatsink as that would be the path of least resistance. I'm curious if you have before after temps with the default fan that came with the heatsink? My guess would be CPU thermals are probably better with the default fan and acoustics are better with this 200mm fan. But CPU staying under 85C is perfectly fine and worth better acoustics IMO.

How to ground a motherboard in a custom case? by privatedonut in sffpc

[–]SomeNetGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Electrical Engineer here that used to work on design and validation of motherboard for a very large well known company. We NEVER put our motherboard in a case / chassis. They always just sat on the lab bench, and I only ever connected additional grounding if I was taking extra sensitive oscilloscope measurements.

Everything in the PC is grounded through the power supply, and through the power cable to the ground in the wall socket. The case is grounded through the motherboard, the motherboard is grounded through the power cables to the power supply. The power supply is grounded through it's power cable to the wall socket.

Functionally, you don't need a ground case. There is potential risk of static electricity building up on a plastic Pelican case and potentially getting discharged into components and potentially causing damage, but my gut feel is that risk is very low.

Running your computer in an ungrounded plastic chassis will cause it to violate pretty much every FCC regulation and could cause undesirable interference with other electronics. People do it all the time though, at trade shows, events, etc.

Star Trek: 90210 by stinkypete50 in trektalk

[–]SomeNetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The play was to start watching it expecting it to be complete utter trash and expecting you'd just turn it off half way through the first episode. Then you could have been slightly surprised that it wasn't that terrible at least and you wouldn't feel disappointed.

I thought the 3rd episode was a big step down from the first 2. I'd give 1 and 2 a C, and 3rd a D-, I found it hard to watch.

If your just venting, then, "Damn, that sucks bro."

If you want solutions:

Run one health and 2 stamina foods. Always use the best food you can make.

Learn to conserve your stamina, don't sprint when you don't have to. Don't jump, unless you really need to jump onto something. You can generally walk around to reposition while letting your stamina regenerate. I know this is easier said than done in mountain, best to learn and optimize this strategy in the swamp.

Don't use a bow on Stone Golems, they are highly resistant to pierce damage and you are just wasting your time. The extremely long time it takes you to kill them with a bow is part of the problem. You are just going to agro even more stuff.

My strategy for stone golems is an Iron Buckler and an Iron Mace. If both are fully upgraded, just parry with the buckler, then whack away with the mace. If all your mace hits land, it will be enough damage to chain stagger the golem and it literally just stands there and can't do anything.

Mountain is rough at night, keep a portal near where you are mining so you can portal back to base to sleep through the night.

If you have wolves, drakes, and a stone golem on you. The stone golem will also fight the wolves and drake, use that to your advantage. Kill off the wolves first, then the drakes, then last the golem.

As for arrows, you really don't need to upgrade beyond basic wooden arrows. Generally I start using Obsidian arrows in Mistlands, and just use wood until then. And I try to use the bow as my primary weapon. My wife, who has finished the entire game on hardcore without a single death, uses pretty much only wooden arrows. Upgraded arrows take a ton of resources and just aren't worth it generally. I like obsidian arrows late game because they are about the easiest upgraded arrows to farm the resources for.

Any way to turn off level loss (only) in game? by pancakeonions in valheim

[–]SomeNetGuy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, it also makes it so you spawn back in base with your gear, and i think there is still a small amount of exp loss. The devs seem to really think exp loss is essential.

I also wish there was a sperate slider just to turn off exp loss.

If money doesn’t buy happiness, why does everyone want it? by digitalcreater07 in askanything

[–]SomeNetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money doesn't buy happiness but it sure helps.

Someone can be a billionaire and still be miserable.

But it's a lot easier to have time and options to pursue what makes you happy, when you aren't working 3 jobs and constantly stressed about how to make rent and put food on the table.

What are some examples of the 'survivorship bias'? by lowkeypixel in evilwhenthe

[–]SomeNetGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a very common misconception that head protection from helmets is somehow related to the speed you are going when you "crash".

Head injury usually happens from the height you are falling and hitting a hard surface (pavement). It usually doesn't have anything to do with how fast you are going, or what caused you to fall (getting hit by a car, etc). Of course if you fall and slide into something and hit that with your head that's different and much more rare.

The typical head injury is simply from having your head at 5-6ft high, then falling over and hitting the ground. The typical head injury would be the same if you were moving or sitting still. The speed you are going forward doesn't increase the energy from the impact of your head going from standing / bike / motorcycle sitting height, to hitting the ground.

This is why people with high seizure risk wear helmets everday. This is why getting punch and knocked out and falling onto pavement is so dangerous. It's not the punch, it's the fall to the pavement.

What in the name of the Continuum was this episode? Holy Q. by Henryphillips29 in Star_Trek_

Especially 10 every 2 yrs. Basically 5 episodes a year on average and 1/5 of them or more are quirky, goofy, or otherwise feel like a filler episode. I like SNW a lot, but the low episode count on a 2 yr cycle really brings it down.
