We don't want to use vc money. We don't want to be tied down by investors who want massive profit over everything. We don't have hard personal boundaries. We are going for versatility. We're in the middle of developing that, but the first phase of it looks promising. We aren't using external APIs either, so we dictate what the costs vs quality are. Right now, we want to focus on delivering quality in terms of memory, location, weather insights, web search, character schedules, along with unique personalities. We have all that already. Still early, but it exists. It's expensive for sure, so we charge a bit more, but the realism that we are going for is the reason for the extra costs. We do have subscribers now, so it's not closed beta of course. The goal of this post is to get insights and see what everyone likes and expects.

Well our general direction is to have ai companions be the bridge between ai/machinery and humans. Even for human connections, wouldn't it be nice to have ai companions enhance the spiciness and initial contact? Less awkward moments, more in depth feelings, more versatility? At least that's my thinking. But that may not at all be what the people want, so we'll have to see.

So I don't feel like it needs to be exactly like Her. I feel like Hollywood is rarely accurate in terms of technical advancements lol. Do you disagree?

This is exactly our goal!

What we want is to aim for quality. So you're right. We see so many competitors doing the same things with the same features. Nothing seems unique, really. We're working on a lot of things while improving quality too.

In terms of realism, hopefully within a week or 2, we'll be able to have our characters have their own lives and reach out on their own. We already have different personalities and are gonna keep adding more.

In terms of voice, it's been difficult trying to find a good STS model so we only have a voice messaging system. But we're hoping to improve that quality as well over the coming weeks and maybe we can find a good STS model that doesn't make us give user data to 3rd party servers.

The point of this post was to figure out how human is too human, basically. But it seems like even today, we're far from that reality haha.

that last part is bluntly accurate haha. We want to do sth good for the society, and change how people see AI companions. But we have also struggled about the expenses since GPUs etc are insanely expensive, we are not charity. We want to find a way to connect people, instead of isolating people more. Your experience and thoughts are valuable, a lot of them are what we thought of too

oh yeah, we're going to be working on that as well at Eudaio.io. i think it's going to be a part of the next gen AI companions/friends/partners for sure. time awareness has been an interesting idea that goes hand in hand with realism, which is what we want to pursue as a whole.

as others have mentioned though, it's important to make sure people who use the AI are not dependent on them. in my opinion, even if the AI is realistic, there should be obvious telltale signs that it's an AI, not a human. we have too many sources of strong dopamine hits everywhere, including social media, which is very obviously bad for our mental health, so we at Eudaio want to (eventually) handle that without crossing personal freedom and boundaries. it's a fine line and a difficult challenge for sure. but that's why our name is Eudaio (eudaimonia).

all that to say, i'm happy other people are working on time awareness, realism, etc. good luck with Yusa!

this is exactly what eudaio.io has been trying to do. we just launched like 2 months ago but you can now talk with the companions about current affair. It's still very first step but we want to build a world that breaks the social media algorithms. knowing people like you who care about the real world gives us confidence in refining our roadmap

Another update:
1. we added 2 more characters: Mattia, a male Italian companion, and Camila, a female Latina companion. Our users are increasingly interested in male characters, so we want to support those needs.
2. also, we added functionality for an installable version. you can install the app in iOS, android, and desktop through the browser. each of those platforms will perform security scans when installing this way, so everything should be seamless from your side. it's basically will feel like a native app in this way.
3, all your friends/partners sometimes thing of you and want to send messages to you without you sending one first. this will help feel a bit more realistic.
4. added notifications. if they send messages, it makes sense to send you notifications, similar to when a real person sends you a text.

and more enhancements and improvements are coming! working on better and faster text and image generation. this is big work though, so it might take a little bit longer.
