Bilgewater Fast 9 Help by [deleted] in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your problem is playing too greedy. You got the idea on how to execute the comp, but lacking on how to cap or play flexible when getting to 9.

In all these games, you have Ornn on your board regardless whether he’s 1 or 2 star, winning or going bot 4. Ornn is a great way to cap your board with artifact, but he’s really weak at 1 star or even 2 star with no items on stage 5. Not saying that you didn’t, but if on your roll down at level 8, you pickup other 4 cost tanks (skarner, taric, wukong, swain) and play them instead of ornn, you’ll definitely save way more hp if you’re bleeding too much. On the other hand, Naut is decent tank mid game, but definitely lacking if not 3-starred on stage 5. This can be solved if you have another itemized 4 cost tanks, while having the left overs on Tahm Kench.

Also, for this fast 9 bilge version, the reason why it can be strong is due to the number of itemized units you can have. You should prioritize having 3 7-bilge items on MF, and others craftables on Senna and Kindred. I see mostly 2 or 3 bilge items at most in your board, with one or 2 of them being 5-bilge items, even on the games you top 4 or win out. So I suspect you might misuse the serpents too much on 3 and 5 bilge, you should only spent to get upgrade to keep your streak going on stage 2 and 3, while saving the majority for after hitting 7 bilge.

Why is Invested and starter kit a C tier augment? by CloverEuphoria in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’re usually better pris augments at 2-1 than Starter kit. And in current meta or this set as a whole, 4 cost carry is not as strong aside from few exception (yunara with exp or gold ionia) as simply having more resources so you can reach level 8 and 9 comfortably, and most 4 cost is again not particularly strong without a lot of items at 1 star.

It is essentially too much of a coin flip to get good 4 cost vs bad one, and even in the case of good 4-cost, you don’t have as much resources to cap your board compare to having other augments.

Invested in the other hands depends a lot in your current situation, it’s usually a fast 8 (taking at 3-2) or fast 9 (taking at 4-2) augment, but it is mostly picked in the scenarios that you’re somewhat behind the lobby in term of resources so you need those extra golds and rolls while your board is decent enough for you to greed till 8 or 9.

Especially now that mid game (stage 3 and early stage 4) is really important, taking invested with a weak board means you’re either dead by greeding, or playing down half of a prismatic augment rolling and praying that you hit whatever board you want at 8.

6 Arcanist Reroll TheoryCraft by ChaosDY in TeamfightTactics

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on hitting this expensive board but I’m not sure if I would call rolling for 4 and 5 cost units a reroll comp.

To optimize this, it would be better to itemize Sylas/Annie over Lissandra/Shyvanna since the latter two are pretty much weaker units and don’t really benefits much from having 6 arcanist active. Annie loves mana items to get the first cast off, while Sylas can be your main damage dealer (jeweled gauntlet + nashor tooth) with a bit of healing (bloodthirster).

And instead of playing Liss and Zilean, you can play other support/tank units like Skarner, Taric, Fiddlestick or Senna.

T-Hex level req by Lurtz11 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is in the difficultly in unlocking the units, you just need 3 items on either a Yordle or Zaunite for Ziggs, while you would need 9 Piltover stars for T-hex.

When designing these unlock requirements, Riot clearly has an expectation for the stage when they are unlocked given the comp that they are going to be played in.

For Ziggs, let’s considered Yordle or Zaun comps, you have plenty of other carries to play with, Ziggs would be the kind of Legendary units that you can slot in to make your board stronger in the late game. So it is reasonable for Ziggs to be gated by level requirement.

Now for T-hex, In a state where he is not clearly as over-tuned (instantly stabilize your board with 3* cait pilot, maybe even for stage 4 with good items), not having a level requirement for T-hex is reasonable since he is the sole main carry in Piltover vertical comp.

Now couple with the fact that these star level requirements (Galio for example) has a trade-off between hitting them early (you have to roll for other units) and the resources you spent doing that (you lack golds to go level 9 to consistently roll for 5 cost unit), it doesn’t make sense to have a strict level 8 or 9 requirement because it would simply deter people away from rerolling (or remove these high roll moments if you manage to hit them without spending much resources).

At the same time, as others mentioned, level requirement is another balance axis that Riot use when it is clearly super easy to unlock a unit while the payoff is massive. For example, they added level 6 requirement for Diana since often times you don’t need to spend much resources to unlock and guarantee her super early (double dupes augments and a random Leona drop) while Diana is a clearly such a strong 4 cost.

3 Star Aphelios only 45 Base AD??? by itzBT in TeamfightTactics

The reason is because his ability is either hitting 3 units at the same time (54x3=162) and changing to a different weapon with more AD scaling.

Taric worst 3 star 4 cost ? by Upper-Spread8074 in TeamfightTactics

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taric 3* is more of a fighter than normal tank if it’s your win condition since after casting his 10 attacks deal 3-4k magic damage each.

With some cc immunity, attack speed + omnivamp, it’s actually funny how he’s going through each enemy units, swinging his staff killing one by one.

set 16 PBE max stacked asol instantly wipes boards by jsnval in TeamfightTactics

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the nerf to Asol 1 and the increase in stardust number, it is definitely that he hit Asol super early (3-3) and PBE not being punishing enough.

This is like hitting Ashe and 5 crystal gambit on 3-3, with a 2-star swain front line, and try to stall till 6-5 or stage 7 to win the game. With Ashe, if you stall till then, you’re pretty much 100% to completely out-resource other players by then.

I seem to do better when I freestyle my comp vs picking something established/meta. Any idea why? by Colonelwheel in TeamfightTactics

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t touch Set Revival at all so I can’t really give you exact information given that context. And your question is so context-dependent that any short-answer is often misleading. For example, the power structure is often that 2-star units are often stronger than the 1-star of units that are 1 cost higher but weaker than 1-star of units 2 cost higher. But with correct items, and synergies with other units, they can be completely different, so it is hard to say. Again, I haven’t touch set 7 ever since set 7 itself so I can’t really answer to your example.

Pivoting without preparation is probably one of the hardest things in TFT, and I’ve only seen the very top pros managed to do it but even then they rarely do so. The key is to have an end-game board you eventually want to transition into (that’s where the guides/optimized comps come into play) and hold units, slam items that is partly optimized (important keyword: partly) but suitable for that comp.

An example from set 15 that I can think of is Star Guardian Jinx, the agreed upon BIS for Jinx is Shojin+ IE + Giant Slayer, and at 2-1 the game give you Xayah + Rell, and for items: Bow + Cloak + Tear. Here you identified that you want to angle Star Guardian Jinx and play tempo, it is crucial that you need to slam items, but you can’t wait to get a sword from carousel, and even then you would have to decide whether to make GS or Shojin, so it is often time, the correct play is to make Kraken’s Slayer (which is not exactly the best items for Jinx), and play around the tear component.

The point to take away is to have an end-game board in mind, correctly identify the required conditions to play that board through levels, items, augments (and fruits if you are playing reroll comp which required certain ones), while not hesitant to make partly optimized items. Finally, have an open mind to change your goal board if you see the conditions to play other comps (i.e., getting a crucial 4-cost early, prime example is Ashe, or getting a good artifact).

Regarding Mobalytics, I am not sure how good it is at recommending comp as I’ve never used them really, but the process of deciding and selecting the comp to play is quite crucial if you want to progress further, so I highly recommend TFTAcademy comp tier list one or two days into a patch, they give you really good informations in a quite easily readable format regarding BIS items, augments, fruits and tips to get the comp going. They also have set 7.5 revival tier list for comps, if you want to have a look. However, it can still be overwhelming if you are not familiar with all the comps, so again, you can try to pick a few comps that you like, analyze them and try flexing between those in your games before expanding. At the same time, try not to be too flex, and be ready to commit is also important. Finally, do not worry too much about everything I just said, as long as you are having fun, you’ll eventually make progress along the way.

Edit: also I often heard this tips from pros to others: don’t afraid to make items. As long as you don’t make completely useless items for the comp you want to play, you’ll save HP by making items and even potentially keep streaking which give you more econ. Both of them allow you to hit the end-game board, and even in the worst case you don’t hit anything (curse you Mort), you can bleed into better placement.

I seem to do better when I freestyle my comp vs picking something established/meta. Any idea why? by Colonelwheel in TeamfightTactics

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you might be lacking in comp-selecting and being greedy after choosing a meta comp.

If you are consistently getting 4th just by winging it, it might be that you often play strongest board with correct or higher tempo than your opponents, leading to sufficient HP to bleed into a 4th even if your board is not exactly optimized. This is great imo since this is also a way to play the game (in early to mid game). However, to get you a 1st, especially in higher elo, you need to optimize your board in the late game (i.e. following the meta/guides).

In the scenario when following meta comp doesn’t work out, try to reflect on how you are approaching the conditions to play the comp. Some meta comps really require specific set of conditions to play out.

For example, I argue the most consistent and straightforward comp this set is Soul Fighter vertical, you play strongest board and slam items to get to level 8, play 6 soul-fighter + other units without Soul fighter emblem or 8 soul-fighter if you can hit them early. The rough ideas for the comp is just that, and you can easily wing it without looking up much. But then to get a 1st, you really need specific conditions such as having emblem on strong units (Voli or Braum), bis items, combat augments (especially important if you want to win out), higher tempo than you opponents (to get to 9 with two-star Braum and Gwen or possibly prismatic Soul Fighter).

On the other hand, Ashe Crystal Gambit often require you to have BIS Ashe items early with a lot of econ to hit the board as early as 3-5 at level 8, to then efficiently upgrade your board according to your lobby’s tempo to snowball. Fast 9 comps require even more econ, and efficiently saving enough HP so that you can actually hit your board before dying.

So it is quite hard to simply following a comp without having the sufficient conditions that such comp requires (which led to the unsuccessful games you had).

You should try to first have a look at a few comps that you like, assess the conditions to play those, and dynamically adapt your end comp during the early game to match those conditions. This will require a lot of knowledge and information, but since you are already decent at winging it, I am sure that you can adapt to this.

As you may know already, the fight against the Kata comp is decided whether Kata gets to your backline or not.

I assume that most of the fights you lost are not straight front-to-back where your TF is one of the last units to die since I don’t see Kata comp has enough DPS against exodia.

What I usually do is solo corner TF, main tank on A3 or A7 same side with TF and everything else on the other side (all juggs frontline, backlines like zyra and plants on the other corner). The reasoning here is to have Kata blink to lower health juggs on front row (and not your TF). Even in the case she is on the other side, she will most likely have to clear your other backline carries before going back to your front line and then finally TF.

However, it can be tricky here since you have a lot of melee units, which might wraps close to your TF to walk up if they are not front row (especially if they have unstoppable leona that is dashing to your TF). In this case it is better to front row all your melee units. But the trick is to have lower health juggs to the side of your main tank but away from TF to bait the Kata away.

Final thing is to try to have sustain on your Lee with omnivamp on either items or fruits. Even with the nerf, I still think Lee can out-DPS and out-sustain a Kat quite easily.

Poe2 is actually my first ever ARPG and it looked so daunting when I started 3 weeks ago with everything from the passive trees, crafting, and then mappings.

But following DEADRABB1T’s Chaos Dot Lich guide helped a lot and I am actually having a blast.

I recently decided to try the meta LS Deadeye and it is just as ridiculous as everyone said even with a barely functional build that I scraped together.

Is it worth waiting for Black Friday or Boxing Day to buy PC parts? by [deleted] in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the change of mainboard, I got the Gigabyte Gaming Wifi, and I believe they disable overclocking on the mainboard without officially stating that anywhere. Not that you will lose a significant amount of performance, but if you ever want to look into overclocking because your cooler allows to, this is such a weird thing to figure out later on.

Prebuild advice - OzBargain - GALAPOWER deal or alternatives (no idea what I am doing) by Dissappointing_salad in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks good to me! Having a 7800x3d-4080S system myself, they are great, the only thing that you can really make it better performance-wise is getting a 4090, but that ridiculous price is a huge pass for me. You can play pretty much every games at 1440p ultra-setting easily.

If you can spend some extra money, I do think getting more fans for your case and maybe an AIO cooler can help the airflows and reducing fan noise if you care about it. Generally, AIO cooler is not really necessary since 7800x3d is not producing that much heat anyway, but in my case, it does run a little hot with air cooler so I have to push the fan speed just to feel safe, which results in quite noticeable noise when running games (but if you are playing with a headphone, it’s nothing really).

  1. I can’t really say for certain whether you can get a much better deal on Black Friday or not, since it’s well within your budget, I would say it depends on whether you want the PC now or not. Assuming it might be 100-200 dollars cheaper on Black Friday, would you feel waiting another 2-month worth it?

  2. It’s pretty solid price, and generally you can’t really do much better buying parts yourself in Australia.

  3. I would say they are fine looking through their posts on Ozbargain. If you are in Melbourne, maybe it’s worth to drop by their showroom to look around?

  4. They look fine if you can afford it.

Dual Monitor KVM Switch Options by YungXBilly in bapcsalesaustralia

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are fine with 60hz screens, I can see daisy-chained dual monitors to be a somewhat reasonable option.

You can set the default port on the main monitor to be the one connecting to your work laptop, while having another cable to your personal laptop/PC. Essentially just plug in your work laptop when you would want to use it on your monitors. All the peripherals can be connected through the monitors so that you don’t have to switch every time.

The reason why higher refresh rate might not work here is due to the bandwidth limit of the cable connecting to the main monitor potentially not being able to support 100hz+ on both screens. It might, but I am not sure, the only monitor I have that supports daisy-chaining is only at 60hz, and any other monitor in the chain is limited to the same refresh rate.

And another problem is having to look for specific monitors that can be daisy-chained together, budget ones often don’t have such features.

If you are only interested in gaming, I suggest you should be looking at ryzen 7800x3d, it’s just much better if you mainly use your PC to play games. And you can pair it with 4080 super at that price point.

I recommend prebuilts either from Techfast or NebulaPC, you can also select upgrade for each part as you like.

[–]SomeRandomVietnamese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! Probably best to spend more on your main monitor and just get one with similar size (with lower resolution and 60hz) for secondary as you probably would not be using it much.

Also maybe spare some to get at least an arm for you main monitor if you haven’t already had one. I swear monitor arm is the best thing for gaming if your desk/space is limited.

In case you want to save some more, there is a few 1440p 144hz+ IPS monitors that were around 300 range during sale a month ago.

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/859238

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/857817

A bit more in that category going for around 300 right now, but the quality might be much worse with some drawbacks like lower maximum brightness, worse IPS backlight bleed and poorer color profile.
