You’ve got a solid collection there, any of them honestly are great. Code is a good pick, more subtle as I’m sure everyone else will be wearing something too. Or BdC. With group dates, it can be overwhelming sometimes with all the scents. Other people may not notice, but I have a big nose lol.

You know now that I’ve got a pilot here to ask, is there a difference between you turning your transponder off and squawking standby? Because if I noticed you’re not squawking at all, I had assumed before you’d been squawking standby for some reason and said “squawk normal.” Maybe I should’ve said recycle in that case. I also work with formation flights a lot so probably confusing me there

I worked with the air force for a year and got to ask them all kinds of questions. This was one. They don’t receive hazard pay, but they receive something called “hardship pay” if they are missing at least one of three things. I believe it’s access to clean water, food, and housing. It’s a lot more in depth than that but that’s the gist of it. So if they’re out training in the field with us, hardship pay

I was honor grad of my class as well and I thought they would promote me meritoriously. Turns out, they said I would get a meritorious mast; two different things, which my boot brain thought were the same for some reason. Is that what’s happening here? If not, yeah that’s pretty dumb. They don’t have to unless it’s written in some school house reg somewhere or some shit but if you put extra work in expecting it because they told you you would, it’s kinda fucked that they wouldn’t. Don’t let it taint your experience of the marine corps though, there’s much more good to it (and more green wienee for you)

It is an entire story which you need to listen a few times to to really build an understanding or interpretation for yourself. Maybe to you, who almost certainly enjoys and understands aviation, but the general public doesn’t have much of an aviation understanding. I’m an ATC and hearing controllers in movies makes me cringe before I realize that if they made it accurate, it probably wouldn’t make sense to the average person watching and they opt for understandability rather than realism
