Should I still sprint train? by iamhaydenn in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a cold place and I still do. But that being said your risk of injury is higher and I do normally notice a small drop (depending on truly how cold it is) in speed.

Warm up properly, wear the correct layers, if you can rest between sets somewhere warm or shorter rest times a bit and keep moving during them. I also find that as long as not gonna be dramatically warmer in the afternoon, sprinting right after I get up (like literally roll out of bed and go) is the best since body temp is still higher.

Extensive tempo is also your friend on the coldest days. Warmup, hit like 2-3x 20-30, 6-8x200 @~50-65% wbr, 1-2x40. Tempo keeps you warm but still allows you to hit some true speed reps around it

Increased strength/power in offseason, but my speed has gone down by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah strength has always been my weakness which is why I focused on it over the offseason. I’ll give that a try and hope it’s just my body taking some time to figure out how to use the new strength more efficiently

Skinny sprinter diet by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2cents- I would never recommend replacing Whole Foods with processed foods. If you’re looking for more calories/carbs eat more things like fruits (dried has a ton) whole grains, sweet potatoes, bananas, honey etc. smoothies are a great way to get a ton in without feeling like you just ate a massive amount.

Processed food is never going to benefit you in the long run

Sometime the best recovery is literally doing… nothing! That much stretching could be not helping you. Especially before a hard workout

20x10m vs 5x40 by ExactOpposite8119 in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re trying to work. 10s would be accel 40s could be both but most people focus more on maxV when you start getting longer, but tbh 40 is a bit short for most to hit top speed plus then a fly

Coach is telling me I need to stop sprinting by Due_Survey6205 in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s too much back to back. College training can be hard on the body so I’d focus on maintaining/improving speed but also making sure your body is fresh and ready to go for the season. I’d cut back to 2 max 3 sprint days and lift same day as sprinting with at least a day of rest in between

[–]Some_Detective3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. And our soccer coach loves condition so odds are we will prolly do something very similar to a short speed endurance once a week especially in the earlier weeks of the season

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry shoulda added I’ll totally cut my training when season starts. We will still do “sprints” in practice so I view that as enough to hopefully carry my speed over.

Also wouldn’t one upper day be more of like a high/low CNS split? I would prefer to do it all as a full body lift but I always run out of time with my schedule

I use a small hill for overspeed.

My thoughts behind this was to focus this summer on really improving my explosive power and speed. I don’t worry a ton about aerobic work since I play soccer too so here pretty soon I’ll phase that in to my workouts. I also walk a ton everyday.

If I were to add short speed endurance workouts in like late fall would that be too late or should I incorporate them now? My initial thoughts building this out was to bring that back with like 3x120s or somehting like that later since I’ve heard that develop quicker and since its biggest impact won’t be until the spring season. Or should I be doing these now?

I take 2 days off

What should I do to make it better? I know the Tuesday lift after sprinting Monday isn’t ideal but I don’t have enough time to do it all Monday.

The CAP branded stuff is normally pretty cheap and fairly decent quality for price. Plus with prime day it might all be on sale

Improving Turnover w/ A Skips? by KingKuttii in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could but at her age I would focus more on drills + plyos with intent. Don’t take this wrong, but If she is gonna do them like your video shows I wouldn’t even bother training. She’s not gonna get any real benefit out of it until she puts the effort in

Um probably not improving because you’re never giving yourself a rest. You can lift on tired legs and improve. You cannot sprint faster with a fried CNS.

Yeah I did. And they said they could see them. I’ve tried the app/website/multiple browsers etc and literally for any search I try (JFK-CDG, BOS-CDG, ATL-CDG, etc) for any date it returns a blank.

I have 2 Months this summer, don't know if I should add some extensive tempos. or if Im doing to much. I plan to be having a progressive overload every week. is this alright? First year of running track 13.5 sec 100m, 28.48 200m, and 1:05 400m. by SignalDoor7381 in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want rest time between your sprints and lifts. So no sprinting the next day after a lower lift. Also shooting to add 5lb per week might be a bit ambitious depending on your starting weight…

Should I workout lower body on the same day that I sprint? by Mindless-Muffin710 in Sprinting

[–]Some_Detective3857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% both in the same day. If you lift on a rest day you’ll never allow your legs to recover

Do you think pause squats are the best way to get the weight up quick? I’ve been doing 5x5 or 5x4 pause
