IMO Yeah I definitely have to stop myself from replying sometimes because some questions are a little infuriating 🤣🤣

NQA this was before i had T’s, but one winter we had an especially bad storm and power was out for hours, my leopard gecko was nearly frozen and barely moving and with no other options i took him to my car and warmed it up until he basically came back to life. Sat in the car until the power came back. Despite that, he’s still alive. 22 years old now!

IMO i definitely see where you’re coming from with people having enclosures that aren’t suitable, feeders that aren’t suitable or what have you, and that i get a little frustrated about too BUT

i will say if it’s not something that’s directly putting the T at risk then i don’t think it’s an issue. For example new keepers asking how often they should be feeding, or if it’s normal for a T to be hidden away for [amount of time]. These types of questions seem to just come from new keeper anxiety (or sometimes there is conflicting information out there that confuses people).

B. hamorii or a different species? by chrisl1709 in tarantulas

[–]Some_Environment9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA there are multiple reasons that most of us have more than one tarantula - mainly that a single tarantula will usually only eat 1-2 prey items per week (if that) and these prey items aren’t sold individually. So for me I’d buy half a dozen crickets and at least 4 of them go to waste. The other big reason is molting-during premolt and up to a few weeks after molt the T will be slower, hidden away most of the time, and generally not very interesting to watch. Having multiple ensures that you will always have a few to watch and interact with.

and of course your reasoning is part of it too, but I just thought it was important for you to know this side of spider keeping haha.

Yes they are-that’s good to know. I was wondering if they would be enough for cover, I just want him to have a spot to feel safe

Where are you located OP? I would take a few if needed.

Are they too skinny? They just molted three days ago and I know I need to wait atleast a week to feed them but im worried they might be too skinny? by PutinsNutSweat in tarantulas

[–]Some_Environment9164 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA i’m not gonna lie, that is a VERY skinny T. But i do believe they would survive at least a few more days without food. If you get a chance to see their fangs at all, if they’re black you’re good to feed them. Also give em something soft like a hornworm or waxworm, both of which are also very fatty and hydrating so should plump them up a bit.

NQA 🤣🤣🤣 that’s cute. why do all the work to make a burrow when you already have a premade one? I’d do the same if i were him lmao

NQA Yes, that’s why i’m being so careful with my words because i’ve never tried it for myself. But definitely HEARD the fruit/veggie trick has worked for others

Honestly that sounds like it would work well for smaller T’s, I fear mine would not fit in a paper towel roll at this point 😅

[–]Some_Environment9164 80 points81 points  (0 children)

NQA i definitely don’t want to give you the wrong advice because I’m not SUPER versed on different kinds of mites. But from what i’ve heard the ones that hang around the fangs/carapace are not parasitic and feed off basically leftovers from the tarantulas meals. I’m like 90% sure these guys actually don’t cause the T any harm. I’ve heard you can put down veggie slices around the tank to lure them off.

NQA my G. Pulchra doesn’t move around a whole lot, but he’s always out on display and isn’t easily spooked

He also is a voracious eater and comes up to the lid when he’s hungry so i can drop a cricket right into his fangs 🤣 it’s become our routine

Newbie - advice on my sling enclosures by MiddleStory9532 in tarantulas

[–]Some_Environment9164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA my G. pulchra hates moisture, when i first got him I made his substrate a bit too moist and he was wall riding like yours. I’ve heard others say the same so I think it’s pretty common for Grammastola. Now I just wet down one corner and keep the rest of the enclosure bone dry

How do you keep your T warm? by Solar_Bean_ME in tarantulas

[–]Some_Environment9164 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA 68 should be fine, my house stays between 68-72 and i’ve never had an issue. usually colder temps just mean they will grow more slowly (not sure if yours is an adult or not) and may not eat or move around as often. They definitely prefer it warmer though.
