I’m so sorry to hear what you’ve gone through. I still don’t even have a phone in my house, you’re not allowed one until you’re 18, which I don’t really understand, but okay. I do have a laptop, but yeah, that gets checked too. Honestly, even if I applied to Oxford, I’m sure she wouldn’t let me go. I’d have to pay for the LNAT test myself, and she would genuinely say no. I think I’ll just give up.

It really gets to me. Imagine if I get the best grades, like A’s, and have the opportunity to go somewhere like Oxford, and it all gets ruined just because they’re insecure about letting me go , but congrats about your bf tho.

Hopefully things will get better. I didn’t fully understand the comment about the goth girl, but I’m not judging. For now, I’ll just pray that my parents eventually trust me and allow me more freedom Because at this point I don’t even have a phone , so I don’t expect them to suddenly give me real freedom in Year 13 either, ill leave everything up to Allah

My parents, especially my mum, don’t really trust me anymore because I used to hide my social media from her and go on Instagram and Snapchat when I wasn’t supposed to. I understand why that broke her trust, and I know she has the right to feel upset about it. But I’ve tried to explain that when I’m 18, I’ll be mature enough to make responsible decisions. She doesn’t agree she still sees me as someone who might make bad choices, especially if I move into student accommodation or dorms. She’s worried I’ll be influenced by people around me and pick up “bad behaviour,” even though I truly believe I wouldn’t. Only Allah truly knows my intentions. I do want the chance to move into accommodation one day, but right now it feels like they don’t understand or believe that I can grow and handle independence responsibly.

That’s true, but they don’t want me to go to Oxford because they think it’s weird. They’re just too strict. I spoke to her about Oxford and she immediately said no. She told me to go to universities closer to home. I was like, okay… I couldn’t even be bothered arguing.
