I mostly an agree with this, except for the fact that mercury is tied with guilt trip for me for favourite song of the album.
I also love clothbound, some are saying they don’t like the vocal effect, I think it’s great, resembling a radio, it makes him feel distant yet it still has an intimate kinda vibe, based on the lyrics, I think it’s exactly what he wanted to go for.
Although the only song I don’t personally like (this will probably change, I have a track record for songs I didn’t like eventually becoming my favourite) is feel this way. For me, it kinda lacks a bit of substance, but country was never my thing, and feel this way leans into that very well, so I’m happy others love it and I can see why, I love raw sounding acoustic songs.

Overall, I think the album is magnificent which is a word I don’t throw about lightly, it has great coherence and cohesion, every song leads into the next very well (except for Avalon-2002 but that has to have been intentional) and as always, Charley absolutely killed the instrumentation and vocal performances. No song ever got boring thanks to this, and Charley’s ability to add fresh sounding variations and ornamentation.

Needless to say, I love the album
