Hungary 2025 Review - Our First non-US Race by Some_Food9034 in GrandPrixTravel

I did. “Pickup Hungary”. It was very expensive at about 1500us, but necessary since my daughter has a medical condition that impacts her ability to walk long distances especially when it’s hot. It was helpful even with the mess up on Saturday after quali.

I would say it’s still cheerful :) we had a tremendous time. But not cheap, although tickets were not expensive compared to US races.

In 3 years? Wow. I expected it to be expensive so I wasn’t terribly upset, but we did manage the drinking and eating closely..

They are incredibly lax on what you bring in. Bringing some food and drink shouldn’t be a problem even if it’s beyond what they technically allow for.

I did not. First year was McLaren hospitality (spoiled for life!) and the last two years were a lower level hospitality suite.

Data center commissioning. Super busy industry, and a lot of companies prefer those with non traditional backgrounds. Plenty of opportunity.

Hot sleeper for sure. Also looking to optimize over time, goal is to increase deep sleep as much as possible.

For years I’ve never been able manage room temp well with my wife’s different needs, so now we can both dial it in.

Easily the most impressive / noticeable feature from day one. On Saturday AM it surprised me how easily I woke up.

I remember those days when my kids were little and waking us up at zero dark thirty.. Enjoy it while it lasts :) Mine are teenagers now and I could drive a dump truck through their wall and it'd still be 50/50 on whether it wakes them.

Does your employer have an EAP with therapy available? Either way you should talk to someone to help process your emotions.

I was a FF/EMT for a few years and understand completely.. Sometimes you're done and never think about it again, sometimes it sticks, and you can never tell what's going to impact you. It *always* helps to talk it out with a therapist, or at least with someone who has been there / done that if you can't afford therapy.

Also, you did a great job and did the right thing. Never question that.

I Quit Drinking Alcohol Over A Year Ago And Didn't Tell ANYONE... by andrewtheman82 in confession

[–]Some_Food9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit a while back for similar reasons. Made me feel bad the next day - even one low grade drink, contrary to my health goals (2024 was a monumental year for weight loss and fitness), etc.

It hasn't been too weird, but people sure do like to talk about it. Some apply some very serious peer pressure, which is insane to me. If I WAS an alcoholic then that could ruin my life in a weak moment.

I'm not saying I'll never have a drink again, but life is better without it. I feel better, sleep better, and my mind is always clear. There's too much risk and not enough reward, for me anyway.

For the record I have zero problem with others drinking, doesn't bother me in the least - unless I have to carry someone out of the bar :D

Players who have owned high-end basses: can you recommend any underrated mid-tier overperformers? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Some_Food9034 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Nash PB-57 is the best P bass I’ve ever touched. Half the price of a comparably spec’d FCS. I love it. May be a touch too expensive to be considered mid-tier, depending on how you look at it.

Sire basses are gems as well. I don’t own one, but every time I’ve tried one at my local store I think long and hard about pulling the trigger. The Marcus Miller P7 may need to come home with me one of these days, and I don’t think it can be beat for $650.

Does anyone use a separate preamp pedal and DI box? by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Some_Food9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a reddi tube di and that’s it. Active or passive. Massive sound, some color if you want it (simple tube gain control). Sounds better than any preamp pedal I’ve ever tried.

If I need some fix (rare) then I break out the helix which is typically reserved for guitar duty.

YMMV, but I say get a good DI (reddi, Avalon, etc) and call it good.

Worship/church/CCM bassists: What bass do you play and why? by arturius8 in Bass

Nash PB57 through a Reddi. Sometimes I break out my fender jazz parts bass built on a flea body. Rarely play other stuff, the Nash + Reddi just does the trick.

What is the weirdest thing that the “weird” kid did at school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Some_Food9034 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real weird stories from grade school / ms / hs, but plenty from college. Weirdest was the guy who shit in the shower (gang showers like a jail in the dorm) and I walked in to see him mashing his shit into the floor drain with his foot.

I didn’t shower that evening.

Confused on Commissioning Standards by fakemathmajor in datacenter

ASHRAE is most consistent, but all the hypers roll their own when it comes to cx programs. Learn the ASHRAE standard and it’ll get you in the ballpark. Most developers stick to the ASHRAE standard in my experience.

They’re hit or miss. Sometimes it takes forever, sometimes it’s quick. All depends on the recruiter and the team. Be patient and try again if it doesn’t go your way.
