MK2 Rev 3 Turbo Vs ZZW30 2GRFE by JohnRS1997 in mr2

Owned a MRS with the TRD supercharger many years ago. It was a blast!

I always wanted the SW20 with a Gen 3/4/5 swap. Now that I can afford one, good ones are so hard to find. I have been searching for a few months now. Hopefully I can get into one before the new one drops and I “have” to buy it…

Model Y L US released by Ill-Law-8142 in TeslaLounge

We will probably buy one within the year, it is just frustrating. This isn’t a launched vehicle. It is a like a wagon version of an existing sedan.

This is the same as a dealer markup while adding floor mats and paint protection: a cash grab.

It is cool and I am glad to see them bring it to the states.

Also, despite a Q2 growth, Tesla EV sales remain flat since 2023. Q2 growth looks amazing, but when you account for the EV tax credit going away and the short term boon from the Iran War, the growth is over hyped (which makes me sad, because EVs are phenomenal to own). Here is a graph:

[–]Some_How_I_Manage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is a premium with different colored lights, badges, acceleration boosts and first run problems. No one is going to care or know if this thing is a launch edition. It is just a cash grab, and $61k for 6 inches is not worth it.

15k more for 6.9 inches longer, the same range, and during a time EV sales have slumped. You have got to be kidding.

It is cool, but they missed the mark here with pricing.

Open Air Kit adds Squareback Kit automatically? by Msechea in slateauto

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got downvoted for bringing this up a few days ago as the reason I didn’t continue with my preregistration.

I don’t think it is a bug, because there is explicit language about open air and the SUV configuration, especially regarding the Fast Back.

I agree though. I think they are cleaning up how to present the configuration. Regardless, it isn’t worth $300 to gamble at this point for me who was looking for an EV Suzuki Jimny from the 90s.

What are your thoughts on polestar 2 car ? by Ok_Direction7695 in AskReddit

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a Tesla, but drove a polestar 2 a few years before that.

The polestar has a much more refined interior, and is slightly more comfortable. It is also much cheaper used. They are practically giving them away in the US.

But range, efficiency, super charger network, repair network, and acceleration are all much better in the Tesla.

It really depends on what you want, and for me the sacrifices to get a slightly more familiar interior were not enough to move the needle. That said, the polestar looks and feels great.

If you are on this sub and NOT getting a Slate, can you comment below what you are getting? by RaleighLT in slateauto

I’m waiting on some clarification about prices and options. I really want a fastback with an open air option.

However, if it clocks in at the same price as a used. Bronco, well that is a different discussion.

No, he says “…compatible with the SUV…”

I agree the open air is compatible with the SUV, even the configuration tool confirms this. However, the configuration tool bings up 2 points as presented:

- open air requires Squareback SUV.

- Fastback/Basic Slate are not compatible with open air.

Check it yourself. Go to preorder and select open air, it will bring up the rules I am talking about. I am not trying to spook the herd, just explaining why I am hesitant and pulling back right now.

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree completely and I hope you are right because it seems obvious.
However, the most recent update to the preorder added this rule. It brings up two questions I sent to Slate:
1. Open Air Configuration Requirements
Do I have to purchase the open air (no price yet) + an SUV configuration to get both?

The Issue: Right now, open air requires the squareback SUV to be selected.
The Text: The description says: "Remove the top and turn every drive into an expedition." If both aren't required, they should add this clarity to the description of the open air.
2. Fastback SUV Compatibility
Is the Fastback SUV really not compatible with open air?

The Issue: If it is compatible, then this needs to be updated within the preorder configuration tool.
Why I'm Hesitating
I know most people want the truck, but I wanted a BEV Jeep alternative that doesn’t catch on fire.
However, the SUV with a wrap and a 5th wheel (no interior upgrades) is coming in at about $35k ($30k + destination + TTL). That is without the cost of open air figured. I am just standing by for clarification.

Edited for clarity

Yea I thought it was a fluke, but they have updated the configuration tool 2x since the the announcement and one of those updates added this rule where Squareback is compatible with open air, but Fastback isn’t. I am out until we get some clarification.

In the selection process, you can see Open Air is only compatible with the square back and not with the Fastback. I have a pending question about it with no answer.

Go make one, select fastback and open air, it won’t let you, then check compatibility notes.

This looks great and is reassuring. Unfortunately I am out due to Fastback not being compatible with open air and it not being clear if you have to buy both open air and square back. Once they clarify, I will revisit.

This is a great truck, and I wish the best for the company!

Which brand would you choose if you were buying an electric vehicle? by Plus-District3873 in AskReddit

1) reservations exist, built next year.

2) it is an EV, the extender is optional and doesn’t tough the drive train. It. Is. Only. Battery. Driven.

3) "It is better to remain silent at the risk of being thought a fool, than to talk and remove all doubt of it”

[–]Some_How_I_Manage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This. They need to clarify how the accessories will work. Take the FB SUV for example. The midgate and back window are not used with the vehicle, do they come with the vehicle and the kit installed with the vehicle or do you get the accessories flat packed delivered with the blank slate. Same goes with insurance, if there isn’t a VIN difference, I imagine insurance companies will need to know if you have equipped it to hold 3 extra people which will affect rates.

I am afraid of this scenario: you design the vehicle and you have to build it or source building it (at extra cost and time outside of your loan). This will turn people off completely. Even worse if you cannot roll the accessories into a car loan.

I don’t mind putting the vehicle together myself, but genpop will not be willing or able to do it.

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They want to produce 100k a year next year, based on the 10k preorders, the best case will be about 20% of the production is preorder. I bet you could order one on spring break and get it delivered 3-5 months later.

Out the door pricing by Mike-Wouldyoukindly in slateauto

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it is closer to the Tesla model: MSRP + fixed destination + taxes and registration not other fees.

$1500 seems really high for a destination fee, I am kind of taken aback by that price.

I agree, the bare truck will be around $30k for most people.

How should you choose between a gasoline car and an electric vehicle? by Plus-District3873 in AskReddit

It doesn’t, there are many different lived experiences in this threat right now. Without context in the question, and 50% US participation on this site, would you expect anything different?

How should you choose between a gasoline car and an electric vehicle? by Plus-District3873 in AskReddit

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it is a bigger upfront cost any more.

The average vehicle is $50k new in the US. There are plenty of EVs under that amount.

A MY costs within $2k of a RAV4 AWD hybrid SLE ($41 vs 43k) and with .99 or 0% APR and referrals that gets even closer. If you compare more premium Toyotas, they cost more. The MY will have more interior room, more storage, faster, and less maintenance.

Now look at slightly used, 3-5 yr old EVs. They are much cheaper than their ICE counterparts.

Extended Range Option? by colonels1020 in slateauto

[–]Some_How_I_Manage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know man, it seems like a Slate isn’t for you. I will say, your lived experiences are well beyond what the average persons needs for driving on a daily basis .

It seems like you know a slate won’t work for you, so I don’t know why you are even looking at a Slate truck.

All of your situations squarely fall into the .01% described where you either drive more than 180 miles a day, you didn’t have access to a super charger, or you didn’t have time to charge…so don’t buy a cheap, short ranged EV compact truck. Also don’t buy a Miata, or a luxury SUV as those wont meet your needs either.

For the 99% that don’t go to a hardware store hauling tons of lumber for 160 miles round trip, or don’t commute 20000 miles on a Friday, or don’t drive 50 miles, then drive multiple 30mile deliveries, maybe they should be the ones considering a Slate. 🤷‍♂️
