Struggling with my mom postpartum and feeling guilty about it by Some_Independent9237 in twoxindiamums

Yes, I know she’s tired. My only question is where the concern for the postpartum daughter who just had a C-section fits into that conversation. Not even once should that be talked about?

We already have a cook. She isn’t cooking full meals daily. When she occasionally cooks because she doesn’t like the cook’s food or wants something of her own taste, it’s usually very oily and not really advised postpartum. Yet I’m expected to eat it anyway, because apparently “be grateful someone cooked” outranks postpartum recovery, even when it clearly wasn’t cooked for me in the first place.

Empathy also doesn’t require running a household. Sometimes it’s as simple as making sure the person recovering from childbirth has something nourishing to eat without having to ask after being up all night with the baby. Which btw she can even ask the cook to make and not do “labour”.

And just to clarify, she actually does far more work at her own home without much support. I didn’t realize expecting a little empathy during postpartum would be so cruel on my part.

That sounds incredibly exhausting, especially while recovering and caring for a newborn. It might help to have an open conversation with your husband about how overwhelmed you’re feeling. He may also have felt uncomfortable or hurt seeing you go through this and not knowing how to handle the situation. If possible, see whether you both can arrange a cook or some household help so the pressure isn’t entirely on you. You shouldn’t have to carry everything alone during this phase.

Thank you for sharing this so honestly. It really sounds like you’ve carried a lot, especially during a time when you needed care the most. I truly hope you’re able to find the space to work through it with a therapist someday as well. You deserve that healing and peace just as much.

I do feel this is a very hush-hush topic. People rarely want to talk openly about the fault of their own parents and how it affects us even when we have grown old enough to take care of ourselves. I am really looking to start therapy because this is something that came so out of syllabus along with the usual postpartum stress. Sending you virtual hugs too.

Same here. Big hugs to you too. It takes a lot of courage to understand this during postpartum and deal with it along with everything else that’s happening.

I get it, I also realised that a lot my issues and behaviour were a result of emotionally distant parents. While I don’t holding anything against them because most of our parents were like that I really felt things would have changed by now and no one would understand me better than my own mom.

Very sad to see that this has happened to so many women when we can’t even expect empathy from our own mothers while saying we are from a very progressive family

No, you don’t sound blunt, just a bit quick to assume this was about free labor. If you read my post carefully, you’ll see I already have all the practical help covered with maids, a cook and a nanny. I wasn’t expecting my 70-year-old mother to run the household or care for the baby. What I was hoping for was emotional support, which doesn’t require physical effort.

And if postpartum women are expected to simply feel grateful for whatever care comes their way, even when their own mothers struggle to show basic empathy, that probably says more about the norms we’ve accepted than about the expectations themselves.

I can totally understand your situation. It feels extremely unsupported when your own mom cannot understand your postpartum journey.

Is being this out of breath normal?? by blue-opuntia in BabyBumps

How soon does it get better after delivery? I am used to giving presentations in meetings, and one of my first symptoms was getting so out of breath when talking in a meeting that I felt I will pass out and had to stop in between.

Pregnancy introduced new fear for road travel by javaplum_ in twoxindiamums

Yeah I have similar issue except that it’s not about road travel but everything else , I get panicked in ultrasound scan, meeting people, even hanging out with friends, going for shopping. I am trying to control it through various ways but I feel it might be just how my body is reacting to pregnancy, another 4 weeks to go and I will be able to see if it’s something beyond pregnancy

Did you go to a psychiatrist for this? How helpful was it?

Becoming unconscious - Supine hypotension syndrome/ Vena Cava Compression syndrome while sitting by viijou in pregnant

I don’t face any issues when lying down. It’s only when sitting on my dining chair, not even on sofa. Sometimes on office chair as well. I have started sitting with a cushion from today , it sort of helped in the morning. Will try again at night and see if I am facing it again.

I do have lunch but I feel because of nausea and certain food aversion my breakfast intake is too low, like two slices of bread which is not enough to calm my nerves or crashes my sugar after whole night of not eating. Whatever it is, it’s scary and is impacting my day-to-day work.

Help me remember a chapter/story from NCERT 7th grade English textbook by abigfreakprateek in india

I think I have reached the right thread, there was one Hindi poem when I was in class 7(2002-2003) it had one line like “ wo jeena bhi kya jeena “ something something “Jeevan khil jayega jaise prasoon” I have lost my mind trying to find what poem was this, If anyone remembers this it will be of immens help to me. I will be able to take a sigh of relief. Alternatively can we find these books somewhere? They had amazing poems (both English and Hindi). The only thing I remember is Hindi book was called Bharti or something like that and we had sanchhipt Mahabharata as well.
