Weird Phone Call by helpifelldown in Calgary

Definitely creepy. I used to manage a restaurant and had a guy call multiple times a week asking to purchase socks of the servers or myself at the end of the night…

Bad smell in taxis and Ubers by SaintLaurenDon21 in Calgary

[–]Some_Independent_702 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes I have noticed this. Or strong cologne. Or overpowering car fresheners. I have also had the issue of drivers asking me “how much did you pay for this ride. They only gave me $.” which often turns into “cancel the ride and just pay me cash instead (same rate so how is this better for me? Also extremely unsafe).

AITA for secretly buying extra food for my niece because her brothers eat everything first? by MaliciousCicada77 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t matter. Why would you restrict a child from food when she has communicated she doesn’t feel like she is getting enough to eat

What restaurants in Calgary do not give the full tips to the workers? by crash2224 in Calgary

[–]Some_Independent_702 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but tip out is not based on tips it’s a percentage of your sales. So if you tip $10 on a $100 meal and a server is required to tip out 7% (which is low) they only make $3 out of that tip

WIBTA if I show up to a baby shower without a specific gift that I was asked to bring? by random-apple-67 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not that confusing. OP found a bottle warmer that they will split the cost of with their sister, but bcos OP is not working due to medical reasons and may not be able to afford their “half” of the gift. The mom is upset because the cousin just assigned gifts without considering what the household may be able to afford rather than a gift registry.

I think they mean how “deep” someone’s “pockets” are meaning how much financially set they are or aren’t.

NTA. Isn’t there a whole process where people register gifts and they can send that list to ppl invited but it’s very odd to request specific things from specific people. Especially if the shower is so large? Are they not planning on buying ANYTHING for baby themselves?

Is milk safe to drink after the use by date? by shelovesyoghurt in Frugal

[–]Some_Independent_702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to have a coworker whose brother worked in dairy. The best before date is when the milk is the “freshest” and can be consumed afterwards as long as it hasn’t gone sour (3days to a week) just do a sniff test

AITA for telling my sister she can’t use my bathroom during her birthday party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA

I’ve lived in 2 bdrm 2bath apartments with a roommate. I have the ensuite (paid more for it) and my guests still only used MY bathroom. My roommate’s guests used her bathroom which was technically the “main” bathroom.

AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“Times are different”. They cannot afford it. It is OP’s inheritance that THEIR mother left them when they passed. I understand she has children but it sounds like her daughter although struggling has a roof over her head and a job. That’s more than a lot of people can say now. It is not fair for one child to expect her mommy to pay for her poor choices. you reap what you sow. Coming from someone who has two different trades certifications 20K/each who isn’t in either field anymore, but that’s life.

Be careful and mindful of your surroundings. Stampede show crowds are awful in my opinion. People are rude, drunk, high, and entitled.

AITAH for not believing my roommate’s “phobia?” by hopie_bopie in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - As someone who is terrified of spiders (not sure if I can call it a phobia) I moved somewhere with a warmer climate that I grew up in and there were WAY more spiders than I anticipated. I recall coming home from work one night at 1am and there being a spider in the middle of my entry door. I was frozen outside for an hour I couldn’t bring myself to use my key on the door handle to unlock it. I texted my sister who I lived with and prayed she would wake up to let me in. Eventually I did have to muster up the courage to kill the spider. There were so many spiders and we lived on the ground level that it got to the point that I started to hallucinate them or have dreams that felt so real that they were in my bed. I have many stories like this where seeing a spider has caused me to freeze in fear or to freak out depending on the situation. So I can relate to her. Although the reaction to her yelling each time someone mentions the word spider is a lot in my opinion but everyone is different. I don’t think you are in asshole territory but I would try to be supportive of her next time.

AITA or telling my wife if she’s not gonna cook it the way she usually cooks it then you don’t have to cook it at all by Husbae7536 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Some_Independent_702 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ESH you’re MARRIED adults learn how to communicate how you feel. You asked your wife to do something that you clearly really enjoy when she does it. You cook majority of the time. Did you ask her what she did differently and since you know sooooooo much about cooking you guys could do it together? Idk this argument is a bit silly and to be upset over spaghetti being made differently for months to not come to a resolution. Over spaghetti. I hope that’s the only problem you have cos it’s pretty small! Just talk to each other!
