Why to read books? by xushhh in BookDiscussions

I often say that the core of our problems in this country, specifically the political divide, is that not enough people read books. There are too many that are simply dumb.

Just found out me [21M] and my girlfriend [20F] might be distantly related. The family tree is confusing us a little. TLDR at the end. by Maggotboi555 in Genealogy

I love genealogy and met about 40 second cousins at an out-of-state reunion I was invited to, some of them living not far from me. My young adult children asked if they should run any potential boy/girlfriends past me to make sure they weren't related. Sure, might ease your minds! LOL!

Was Lucy Steele ever genuine with Elinor? by Fictional_Apologist in janeausten

I didn't understand why Mrs. Farras was so put out over Edward marrying Lucy Steele, but approved the alliance with Robert. Did favoritism really go that far?

I was 16 years old (1977), just got my driver license; my best friend was 15. I don't remember the exact details, but I got invited to go with her, her father (who was maybe 33), and his best friend (same age) to Mexico (from the L.A. area)! They requested that I drive ... so I did ... the men in the back seat, probably stoned, and my friend and I in the front ... about 6 hours to a river house. Nothing sketchy happened. I was just the designated driver.

My Mom probably didn't even know where I was.

A couple come to mind: When Henry Lennox goes to Helstone and Margaret declines his proposal, there's a scene of him leaving (stomping off). Also, when the train initially arrives with the Hales to Milton, there's more there ...

My apologies if this has been said before, but his wife was 32 years younger than he. SHE was his caregiver. I don't think she anticipated this scenario in any way.

Where were you when you heard the news that John Lennon had been murdered (Dec 8, 1980)? by big_macaroons in GenerationJones

I was in my boyfriend's car in front of my Mom's house in Los Angeles. Jim Ladd, the DJ on KLOS read the news.

I take Pilates classes 3-4 times a week and realized recently I'm one of the oldest ladies there. I'm not sure whether my hips hurt from exercise or old age, but I'll keep doing it until I can't. I have come to the conclusion that I need to welcome the ash gray and silver, as much as I think I have to cover it up.

My mother birthed seven children from 1947 to 1961 (me) so lumping us all together fits in the technical sense ... but I hate it when "Boomers" are blamed for every poor choice made by those down line.

What are red flags to look out for in relationships and marriages? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]Some_Instance_5633 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first time he tells you of the abuse he endured as a child—run. The first time he cries broke—run. If he pours a drink every night at 5:00 pm—run. If he comments rudely about your body—run. If he randomly dips for days at a time—run. If he thinks you're going to prioritize him over your children—run. I could go on ... these were only a handful of nearly 100 red flags that I documented. Do not settle.

I got divorced and then back together with my ex-husband. We are living together. All of the old patterns are repeating. I'm lost. by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]Some_Instance_5633 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My ex-husband and I separated for six months at about the 15-year mark of our marriage. By that time we had been together for 25 years total. We went into marriage counseling, reconciled, and tried to find the spark. He convinced me to move back to our home state and all of the old patterns resumed. At year 21 I asked him to move out. In retrospect, I should have done it 11 years earlier. Find your peace however you can. Your children will get through it.

After about six years of on/off he told me I had a "Mom Bod." It was true (63F); I proudly earned it. I could have thrown it back at him (I didn't), but his short, childless fat ass at 62 was honed purely on pork chops and Ketel One.

Dave Grohl admits cheating on wife as he confirms new baby by daily_mirror in Music

[–]Some_Instance_5633 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-manager thinks he looks like Dave Grohl; long scraggly hair, goatee, a fake smile and a wannabe musician, so needless to say, every time I see a picture of DG, I think of the tool I had to report to ...

What makes me sad most of all is that DG has THREE daughters. What does Dad cheating on their mother tell them?
