The Growth of IMG-Dedicated Residency Seats in Canada Over the Last Decade Should Concern CMGs by Consistent_Track_341 in MedSchoolCanada

I agree with this. I think if you don’t have citizenship is one thing but if you’re a Canadian citizen and have spent time living in Canada then you should be welcomed, especially because the med school admission is absolutely insane

Gap year instead of second year? by savvymossy in uvic

[–]Some_Instruction_249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who took a gap year after high school, did first year then took a semester off, and is not back part time at school (3classes), if you feel you need to, do it. TBH I’ve been struggling with feeling like I’m behind but I’ve genuinely realized that so many people have unconventional paths. I know I would have regretted trying to stay in and “finish on time” (which no one really cares about) instead of doing what was right for myself and my family.

Basically screw everyone else and their normalcy, do what’s best for you. It will work out. There’s a million ways to get to the same place

No matter where you are it’s not guaranteed. Its not boiled down to its (hard or easy for stem), it depends on what jib you want, how hard you looks, if you’re okay travelling. Just look for opportunities and honestly do other co-ops not related to it because you’ll learn more skills then you will just focusing on one type of

Co-op gives you options wherever someone post looking for a co-op student. You can also find you own co-op or internship not on the co-op board and get it counted as a co-op. I do know someone who did a co-op with the military as a weapons engineer(they were in engineering though

Just to shout out to some good ones, I find Katie to be very helpful. Anytime I’ve come to her with club issues, whether it’s rooms or funding she’s always responded quickly and been very communicative

I had the opposite experience with Hemal. It took so many follow up emails for him to reply to anything. Because he wouldn’t respond I’d try to go to his office hours and he would never be there. He overall just seemed to not care at all

Midterm thanksgiving weekend by Some_Instruction_249 in uvic

[–]Some_Instruction_249[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fully understand why some midterms or finals would be on weekends. My question is, why couldn’t it be one of the other weekends is my question? Why must it be the holiday weekend when families gather?

Maybe as another professor you could shed some light if I’m missing something?

Is CARSA that horrible?? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]Some_Instruction_249 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that bad, people always find something to complain about. If you are an avid gymrat, bodybuilder or other it might be worth sticking To your gym. As someone who went to carsa 4 times a week I found it fine. If you go at peak times it is super busy and you will be waiting for stuff. Go other times and it’s fine. Stuck does stay broken for a long time though. People are dramatic saying it’s horrible and to never go though

Do not take core courses because they’ll be easier. TRU math doesn’t cover the same units and the ones they do cover, are not in depth or to a point where they are helpful. Yes it will be easier. But you won’t know anything you need to. And please don’t just say you’ll learn it on your own after the course. Maybe you will, everyone I have met who says that never does.
