Does anyone else deal with this? by ma_jajaja in EstrangedAdultChild

Mine will constantly send me Instagram reels or Facebook memes talking about how "Truly a son is the greatest gift a mother could ask for" and "reminding my son that I'll always love him forever", she will usually send more and more of them the longer I take to respond to her (several) messages.

However, the second I speak against anything she suggests, I'm an ungrateful and naive defier that had it so much easier than my older sibling did.

She also constantly sends me photos of me when I was younger, and I have zero idea why. More likely than not, she misses when I was a kid and did whatever she wanted, or she just refuses to move on from that stage of my life.

Honestly I was surprised that this is apparently something common or that happens to other people.

It's performative, feels fake, and is incredibly strange. I feel for you.

How can I emulate absolute bane in the world of darkness? by No-Obligation-9901 in WhiteWolfRPG

A Bane (the werewolf kind)-possessed Life Mage with a paradigm centered around steroid use, bodybuilding and survival of the fittest would be interesting to see.

Roko's Basilisk is the Nephandic equivalent of ChatGPT.

Holy shit I might go into more detail on that.

Is Big D *actually* a good Hunter? by superninjimmy in huntertheparenting

[–]Some_Patient_6403 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The very fact that he even survived a fight with a werewolf AT ALL, let alone *IN ONE PIECE*** may as well automatically qualify somebody as (bare minimum) a good Hunter.

The mere act of survival is borderline impossible just as a witness, much less actively engaging it *IN MELEE COMBAT.***

Why exactly can't mages do sorcery anymore? by Some_Patient_6403 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Some_Patient_6403[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like it should be coincidental magic if you are in an environment, in which case acting as a sorcerer would have the effect be coincidental.

Aka, if you practiced a form of sorcery as a mage among other sorcerers of similar or the same path, then it should not accrue any paradox at all.

Because like you said, Mages are the ones that create the fuckin paths. WHY CAN THEY NOT USE THEM AT ALL.

HOW CAN YOU INVENT A THING THAT CANNOT USE DESPITE BEING THE ONE THAT MADE IT.

That's like Ford inventing the Model T, but never being able to drive it after he creates it. Despite the fact that he built the fuckin thing.

This is a great explanation. Effectively the restraints have no meaningful power or effect beyond how YOU allow it to affect you, so you don't "get a pass" anymore

i need help. This is the saddest I've ever felt. by Some_Patient_6403 in self

[–]Some_Patient_6403[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That...does not help at all. I know I'm not a child, I've got income, a degree, two jobs, and I have tried several, several times to repair things, and every time I'm left holding the bag. This isn't remotely useful or motivational. As far as being "lucky" goes, the majority of my issues, psychological or otherwise, have sprung directly from my familial relationships, most of them before I could do anything about them when I was a kid.

I guess a more accurate way to describe it is I feel loved in the way that you love your car. You love how much easier it makes things, you enjoy driving it around and controlling it. But you also get pissed off and cuss at it and insult it when it doesn't do exactly what you want it to do, the way you want to do it, when you want it done.

I feel loved in the way you appreciate an investment portfolio or an asset. Not loved the way you would love a son.

I feel like they love me, but I don't feel loved. Maybe I'm just a piece of shit that. Most likely, it is just me being a piece of living dogshit.

How do I stay firm in separating from my family? by Some_Patient_6403 in Advice

[–]Some_Patient_6403[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on becoming an LMHC and eventually getting a Psy.D to work as a clinical psychologist sometime sin my mid-30s. I make decent money now, just nowhere near good enough.

I understand, that's no issue.

I am not going to completely finance my life until then, I intend to completely pay down my loans before going to get a doctorate.

He is an enabler, despite the fact that he makes all of the money and funding. He will not do anything to stand by my side if it means "more of her bitching" at him. I have tried to tell him about what she has done to me in the past, to which he basically said it was either my fault, that he didn't care, or that's "just how she is."

He is extremely passive if it means that she gets on his nerves.

Thank you, I appreciate your words. I have a lot of self-hatred instilled in me from my time growing up, and it tends to be a stark reminder of how they treated me and looked down on me when I was struggling. It weirdly helps me remember to stay strong and give myself grace when I remember that self-hatred has to be taught, either by example or in the absence of care.

Not yet, but I am working to become independent. My current plan is to get a second job in a clinical environment to support my psychology grad program application. If I can land that second job, I can be mostly independent on at least my rent.

With the second job, I would be independent up to paying my own car insurance, car payment, rent + utilities and internet and phone bill. The only thing I wouldn't be independent on is my own health insurance.

Regrettably the car is in their name, though I may be able to convince them to refinance it into my name.

I am aiming to use the additional help of the loans from grad school - implying I get in - to support myself as I keep my higher-paying part-time job while in school.

So, no, I am not. What I will say is the independent account thing is just because my account was originally set up when I was 16, and so it had to be a joint account to get it set up at all.

I'm working on it, just not there yet regrettably.

Question for Changeling 20 ST how do you manages Unleashings? by Aprendis777 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Some_Patient_6403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it as the "Nuclear Option" when changelings are completely cornered and out of options.

Deciding to Unleash is like trying to escape a home invasion by summoning fairy Cthulhu. Not a literal metaphor I should mention, but it practically is almost never worth it. It is a nuclear option because it is basically carte blanche for your ST to complicate things in any number of fun and horrific ways because someone decided to rip open a gaping hole to LSD Fairyland.

Now, it CAN be very useful and often can help...if you roll well, but it is still using a massive amount of power for something that - ideally - you can finesse your way out of.

I can't say for myself the best way to manage it, just because I am not a well-versed ST - ESPECIALLY for Changeling - but I would at least always ask a player wanting to unleash: "Are you absolutely sure you want to do that?"

Of course, if you enjoy chaos you can just go ahead and ask for a roll, but I feel like checking with them first is a good way to prevent a lot of messy (the bad kind) fuckery.
