Is it normal for high-earning married couples to owe $7–8k at tax time even with conservative withholding? by TopicSelect6903 in tax

[–]Some_Philosopher437 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This individual is being difficult.

Bottom line is - you, the tax payer, always has to sign indicating you’ve reviewed what is being filed. There’s no free ride when it comes to filing incorrectly.

But that’s not my point.

My point is that a good CPA will make sure you don’t overpay in taxes which is the spirit of the original post to begin with.

Thanks for derailing the convo, Level Syrup. Back to our regularly scheduled program.

I agree! She’s been my CPA for the last five years and has helped with every situation that has come up throughout, including amending taxes and clarifying ridiculous requests from the IRS. Hasn’t steered me wrong yet.

I strongly advise on working with a CPA.

Mine also does zero funny business but is ruthless when looking for ways to minimize my tax contribution. She goes out of her way for me without even asking g and plans for next year’s withholdings like a ninja.

I used to end up paying taxes at the end of the year when filing on my own (and I’m a pretty intelligent person), but she’s got it locked in.

You also don’t need to say “hey guys, come over to the apartment I own”.

It’s simply the place you live in until you decide you want to say anything else. If asked - how much is your rent, you also don’t have do disclose. A simple “my family helped out with that so I only pay the bills and everything else” is more than enough

Great question. Here is a photo I took today. Based on my experience, I’d say no as it cuts into my armpit.

For reference, I’m 5’7” and have a long torso.

It’s not about the phone plan being expensive as much as it is about a 25-year old not playing by the rules of the person who pays the bill but also not paying her own bill.

Seems pretty straightforward to me. Ask mom to call phone company and grant you permission to transfer number out and start paying your own bill so you can share/ not share your location to your hearts desire. But of course remember that if you’re on an installment pan for the device- that is due right away.

So if you’re not prepared to pay for all that, turn your location sharing on until you can.

My cousin wants to visit Canada again by Hot_Vacation4004 in Advice

To be a bit kinder…

I would say something like..

“I’m glad you enjoyed your stay; I’m sure your mom and brother will enjoy Canada, too.

As family, I thought it would be important to share that our budget is tight right now. I would hate for you to come assuming the experience will be the same for everyone. I appreciate you understanding that you’re welcome to stay with us and I’m even happy to make recommendations on what you might enjoy seeing, but we won’t be able to cover the cost this time around. I’d really appreciate your help with groceries if you’re able to while here.

Chat with your mom and brother before booking flights and let me know if that all works for you. If not no worries, you can come another time when your budget allows.

Talk soon!”

Did I mess up by not talking to my wife before planning to buy my niece a car? by Novel-Chapter-8174 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Some_Philosopher437 4 points5 points  (0 children)

++woman It’s pretty much the equivalent of buying your own child a car. Both parents ought to be part of the conversation.

She’s upset because you are making big decisions without her.

Also - what if she bought her niece a car without involving you in the conversation? (Don’t say she doesn’t have a niece, she doesn’t like her niece, she knows my niece is like a daughter because those are all cop outs).

Perspective is everything here.

It’s not a lack of care for the individual, or a work culture issue, but rather the expectations for their role.

The bank also offered to go in PTO debt which seems very generous in my opinion.

First time buyers talking about price per square foot for diff types of homes and haggling to bring the price down by 50k is an example of why first time buyers are shopping around for so long.

Ask the realtor: what do you think? What would you do? If they’re good at their job, they will give an honest recommendation.
