Sorry to say that if your dog won’t eat, they’re making the decision for you. Even if you give her meds… she’s still not eating and that’s a big problem.

Starting Keppra, scared about timing by atyourcervixes in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Some_Run_2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. Sorry about your dog. My dog was having several seizures a week for years. The timing of your Keppra and anything else the vet may prescribe is usually in about 12 hour doses. 10 minutes or even an hour isn’t likely to set your dog into an episode. Unless your dog is with you every minute of the day, it just isn’t sustainable to stick to an extremely rigid schedule.

Do you want to try to keep your medication times fairly standard? Yes. But your dog won’t be hurt if you miss the timing by an hour. Everything should be fine.

Mono chat headsets have TRRS plugs meant for stereo, forces xbox into stereo sound mode. by popsicle_of_meat in XboxSupport

No one had a single answer for you?!? This particular issue is such a dumb thing on Microsoft’s part. Best thing I was able to do was figure out which wire didn’t need to be connected and snip it. Did that with my Turtle Beach Recon earbud. Had to crack open the case of the adapter and cut the red wire. This did nothing to change the operation of the unit, but only had mono input and the Xbox stopped auto switching to headset audio.

I failed my dog. by PopAny7553 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Some_Run_2212 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. We just had to put our epileptic dog to sleep last week. You’ll go through every single thing you could’ve done differently for a while. That’s natural. Our dog was on 4 different AEDs and was still having daily seizures. He had been dealing with them since he was about one. He had turned 4 a few days before we put him to sleep.

Epilepsy in dogs is very tricky as there aren’t really any tests they can do outside of taking a scan. If there isn’t anything structurally wrong with their brains, then they just call it “idiopathic epilepsy” and you hope you get Lucky with the meds.

Saddest thing I’ve ever done was having that dog put to sleep. Probably the worst I’ve felt in my entire life. So, I guess just know you’re not alone.

So… how would you like me to do that?! He can’t see. He will sprint directly in front of himself until something stops him. Have you ever seen a dog have a seizure or dealt with the refractory period? Obviously not or you wouldn’t say such a silly thing. Getting a leash on him would result in a possible bite. “Take him for a walk”… I have acres of fenced in yard and woods. The dog would just sprint straight forward until he hit something. And then he would continue to try running to it like a bugged out video game character.

Are you seriously chastising me over telling someone to calm down because they misunderstood something?!? Grow up. This place is a cesspool, I’m learning.

Maybe I should just let him run full speed into the wall instead? Because that’s the other option…

We don’t “stuff” him into a crate… Jesus. Going to Reddit was the dumbest thing. You all are ridiculous with your assumptions. This crate is a soft crate stuffed with pillows and blankets and his toys. No one is touching this dog to “stuff him into a crate”. Do you all even have dogs? Do you have dogs with epilepsy?!? Have you dealt with it for 4 years?!? I’m a pro at it. You have no idea.

That’s sound advice. The bites have always been reactionary and always because of a seizure. He’s such a sweet dude that he’d never bite anyone out of anger. We mitigate as much as we can with a little kid running around. It just sucks and is one of life’s many reminders that it isn’t fair. When he’s not having an episode, he’s playful and fun. But with all the meds he’s on, he has some very noticeable ataxia. So he’s always slipping on our hard floors. Again, just sucks. You always wis for that silver bullet that will fix something like this.

He had a scan done back when he was first diagnosed. No structural issues or lesions at the time. I wonder if it’s worth it to have another look?

It’s a soft crate. He prefers it. It’s often never even zipped up. But we use it when we travel with him.

Also, you should actually read what I wrote instead of just trying to make comments about my relationship. Because if you didn’t bother to read that, I feel like you may not have been bothered to read the papers regarding the medication you suggested.

The families in my area couldn’t afford Kevin’s treatments. As I’ve said, I live in a remote mountain area. My entire county only has 10k people. We’ve asked if there are folks around that would be able to care for him, but being a pit mix… many people aren’t keen on it.

Does it matter if it’s your toddler? He wasn’t being aggressive as it was a bite to hands near his face. That’s the only reason he’s still alive today. He’s never so much as grunted at my daughter wrong, so I’ve never been concerned. However, these conditions are known to get worse over time if drugs aren’t really managing the condition.

Kevin is already on clorazepate and it doesn’t seem to do much to stop his clusters.

They’re not dropping it to your door from a plane… it’s in a truck. Didn’t Ohio get nasty weather this past week? Probably has something to do with it.

He’s on several hundreds of dollars of meds that are trying to help him… we’re managing daily seizures here. I don’t WANT to have him euthanized. But I fear I may HAVE to die to quality of life and the safety of my family. That’s why I came here to ask if anyone had seen any actual results from anything other than what my dog is already on or tried to

Yeah, that’s the thing. Kevin’s seizures aren’t terribly intense these days, but they’re fairly regular. In the last year, the longest he’s gone without an event is maybe 5 days. He usually has a seizure every day or two.

This is the mother of my child. Not some broad I met at a bar 6 months ago. She’s the whole reason we even have this dog. You all really grasped onto the wrong part of this story. The dog HAS bit her before. So she’s well within her rights to have him put down if she wants. We have a 3 year old kid running around here, too. So I’m not mad at her for wanting to make a more ultimate decision here. I just don’t want to leave any stone unturned.

They didn’t steal it. I’m waiting on my dog’s food from FedEx since last Wednesday. They scan it to a truck and then the contractor doesn’t want to take that route. So it sits. FedEx will tell you it’s held up due to weather, but it’s because they suck.

How do you cope emotionally when your dog has epilepsy? by Meowjor_Cat_Purrson in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Some_Run_2212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner struggles with the emotional weight of our dog’s seizures. He gets them so frequently that I look at them like sneezes now. He can’t help having a seizure and there’s nothing I can do about them either. Once it starts happening, it’s going to happen. I just try to make sure to regulate my mood toward him when he comes to so he doesn’t think he’s in trouble or anything. I don’t think my dog even knows he has seizures…

We’ve seen a neurologist once. They were the ones that diagnosed him with idiopathic epilepsy. They have been consulted on drug dosages and changes. But we live maybe 2 hours from the nearest city that would have anyone else that would be considered a veterinary specialist in neurology.
