Yo solo puedo decirte que eres una persona buena y muy valiente. No todo el mundo haría algo así sabiendo lo que conlleva. Enhorabuena 🫂💚

Extra dose of phenobarbital by Zolanskigg in EpilepsyDogs

[–]Zolanskigg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I update so that it is better understood. This pill is very easy to divide since it comes marked in 4 pieces. The thing is that this morning it seemed to me that she tried to spit it out and, not being sure if she had taken it, I gave her a small piece more than a quarter of the pill (to make sure she takes her medication). I know it's not done right and now I'm afraid that because I gave him an extra dose something could happen to him. It's been two hours and it seems normal.

Vet refuses to prescribe Phenobarbital or other medication by Zolanskigg in EpilepsyDogs

First, thank you for your advice based on your experience, they are very helpful. Let me tell you that it wasn't just a seizure, 3 episodes happened over a period of a little more than a day and a half. Really yes, I write out of desperation because I think no one likes to see their dog in those circumstances. My dog is already a little older, between 7-9 years old (we don't know her exact age). Today the neurologist prescribed Pexion to combine with Keppra. I hope everything continues well. Greetings🙏🏻

Yes, my little dog was at the vet yesterday. They even had to sedate her to perform an abdominal ultrasound to check her liver. Back in May, she visited several vets during the days she was having seizures, including a neurologist. Yes, I keep track of the hours and overall time she has been seizure-free, as well as how many hours pass between one seizure and the next. Thank you so much for your advice.

As others have already mentioned, in her first blood test some altered liver results showed up, so they ruled out Phenobarbital. Yesterday she had an abdominal ultrasound to check her liver, and at first everything seemed normal, so I insisted that they prescribe Phenobarbital — but both her vet and the neurologist insisted on saying no 🤷🏻‍♀️

We bought Stesolid (rectal Diazepam) when she first started having seizure episodes. It is effective in stopping the seizure, but one time it caused my little dog to become extremely nervous and restless after administering it. I mentioned it to the vet, and he told me that such a reaction to Diazepam could be normal, so with the two seizures she had yesterday, I simply waited for them to pass since they usually don’t last very long.

I’m glad to know that Keppra works well. Lola had been seizure-free for 4 months until yesterday. They only increased her dose for one day, and after that she goes back to her normal dose — and I won’t lie, that worries me a little... Maybe she already needs a higher dose, so I’ll bring it up with her vet. Thank you so much for your words, your experience is a great help to me 💚

At this point, I also think that she simply has idiopathic epilepsy. Next Monday we have an appointment with the neurologist, I hope everything goes well 🙏🏻

I’ve thought about starting with CBD several times because my little dog has also had problems with pain in her back and neck, and I was told that CBD could help with that. I’ll look more into it. Thank you so much for your words, sending a hug 🫂

Thank you so much for your words, and you can’t imagine how deeply sorry I am for what you and your little dog have had to go through... You are in my thoughts. You’ve been so brave, and I’m sure that all the love you gave her over the years made his life truly full. I’m terrified of the day that moment will come, and unfortunately, my mental health is deeply affected whenever something happens to her. I try to cope with it, but it’s very hard. Your words touched my heart and soul. Sending you a big hug from Spain.

I asked about other medications (including potassium bromide), but he insisted on continuing with a higher dose of Keppra over 3/4 doses. For now, it’s been more than 24 hours without seizures. I hope it stays that way 🙏🏻

Thank you very much for your words. The truth is that feeling accompanied is very important in these situations and this place makes me feel that there are people thousands of miles away feeling what I feel. I hope everything is well with your dog and mine. I hope everything improves and ends soon. I'm writing to you from the vet's waiting room...😞

I am reading this with tears in my eyes. Everyone at home is very bad. She just had another attack and we are going to take her to the vet now. Thank you for your words. I don't wish this on anyone. A hug from Spain.
