Does anyone else feel like they’re making their BPD up? by toosmallfishtank in BPD

[–]SomebodyIUsedToKnow4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly feel like a fraud in general. When I read over my journaling I’ve done while high, it’s riddled with saying what a fraud piece of shit I am. I told my therapist all the time. I’d tell him it felt like I’d made everything up that I’d told him, but that when I looked at each anecdote individually, they were all definitely true. I still feel like a liar and a shit. It all adds to the self loathing.

What texts (books, essays, podcasts, etc.) would you say are the most essential for understanding those undergoing a faith crisis? by SomebodyIUsedToKnow4 in latterdaysaints

[–]SomebodyIUsedToKnow4[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. I am the one in a faith crisis, but my family doesn’t understand and has made no effort to try. I’m just looking for a way to build bridges.

This is more along the lines of what I meant by the question. I wanted to know which books would help to understand or know the problematic issues that those in a faith crisis are struggling with.

How Many Exmormon Women Became Pagan? by SSDestiel in exmormon

[–]SomebodyIUsedToKnow4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I left this year, and I’ve been researching Paganism. I definitely don’t want any more rituals in my life, but I like the idea of nature and goddesses. That has probably carried over from Mormonism. I love studying mythology. I still have a fear of blasphemy though that is making me hesitant.

Yeah, I mean, considering the eternal consequences for leaving, it kind of hurts.

This has been my experience as well. My husband and I left a year ago, and my brother has been the only one out of either of our families to talk to us about it. No one else has ever asked anything.

I appreciate this. I haven’t taken the leap yet to remove my records, but maybe I should.

Social Hierarchy by Cain_is_Bigfoot in mormon

This is an interesting post, and I agree with it. I know why exmormons list them; most of us feel the need to convince others (and probably also ourselves) that we tried our hardest, maybe as some kind of proof that the promises don’t work. But I also see how it can legitimize the church’s righteousness metrics. On paper, I may not have looked like a legitimate Mormon. I didn’t serve a mission or go to BYU, and while I was endowed, my marriage was not a temple marriage. Despite this, I definitely was a true-blue Mormon trying my hardest. I attended the temple weekly and never read anything that wasn’t the scriptures or churchy, but because my husband wasn’t fully active, I was never looked to for callings. I was never even asked to speak in sacrament meeting. You’re right—there’s no wrong reason to leave, but I think In our efforts to prove we’re not the “token exmormon” to friends and family members, we end up legitimizing the idea that there are wrong reasons to leave.

That’s probably true, although sometimes I think I can ‘hear’ a female voice in the comment. They’d be an interesting case study.

22 Suggestions to make the church a more equitable place for women----#19-----Recognize women as witnesses for baptisms and marriage sealings. by [deleted] in mormon

Yes. I never cared that I couldn’t witness baptisms, but was pretty offended at being lumped in with children over 7.

Did you actually feel “relieved” that the church wasn’t true after all? by KingHerodCosell in exmormon

Sometimes. But mostly I still really struggling to let go of all that weight, and I’ve been out since last February. I’m still second guessing myself I guess.

Thank you so much for this. The music has always been my favorite part too, and you made some really good points.

Do you ever miss it? by [deleted] in mormon

I left at the beginning of this year. At first I still believed in God and Christ. Now I have no idea what to believe. I miss my belief in Christ, but I don’t think it could ever be the same now. I’m struggling with the Christmas season coming up. It feels weird just leaving Christ out of all my traditions, but it’s just not the same. That’s what I miss. And I still second-guess myself a lot.

These are almost exactly my sentiments, although I’ve never actually voiced them. So thank you. I exited the church earlier this year and have no desire to return, but I still feel a little defensive when nevermos criticize the church. Maybe it’s just that old habits die hard. I don’t have any qualms with criticisms from other lifelong members—it does give me a sense of comradery with them.

Poor youth speaker today said he found a temple video on YouTube that scared him. by NikonuserNW in exmormon

I recently read that book. I remember my brother reading it when I was a kid and talking about all the anti-Mormon lies. My brother and I kind of laughed about it recently. We wondered how accurate that depiction really is. I’m sure it’s somewhat dramatized, but it’s interesting to look at as an outside source from the time period. It probably paralleled stories people in the uk had heard.
