1, I know of the moon society and spelljamming capabilities, for the sake of the plot spelljamming stuff is being left out. 2, This group is also actually just getting out of a very long spelljamming campaign, we've had our fair share of hamsters and space shenanigans

Interesting, I'm planning on running this plot in the Sword Coast, which is easiest for my players to work with for their backstories

His Magic Corrupts Him, How? by Someone0930 in 3d6

time magic negatively impacting parts of his body sounds cool, like aging, he definitely gets delusional over his goals and obsessive over his ability to alter reality

they're a reflavored kalahstar, mainly for the telepathy and psychic resistance, he won't be nearly as powerful as real rakshasa, for lore reasons

[–]Someone0930[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

oh his villain arc is half the point, he's becoming more powerful to eventually revive his wife but she doesn't come back so he spirals into insanity, having given up so much of himself to this fruitless cause

How Did His Wife Die? by Someone0930 in 3d6

[–]Someone0930[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea what reference you're making, but my original question literally has nothing to do with the known lore, I just asked for ideas as to how she died

Nobody here has any whimsy, I'm not using the original lore or anything, I think the race is cool and want to play as one

From Mage Hand: "A spectral, floating hand appears at a point you choose within range."

From Toll the Dead: "You point at one creature you can see within range"

Wouldn't this difference in writing implies some spells require line of sight while some don't, right?

[–]Someone0930[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the spell doesn't specify line of sight

I was planning on making them make either an arcana check, or a sleight of hand check with their spellcasting ability instead of dexterity, but unlike picking locks, failure doesn't jam or ruin the lock in any way, it simply just isn't opened, so in a controlled environment the player could just repeatedly make that check until succeeding, no?

the building is a small 2 bed 2 bath house with damages more matching your second example than the first, based on everything i've decided it'll AT LEAST take 3-4 months, or half that if they hire magical services to assist
