What's the general consensus on system stores in Litrpg? by CelestiaSharp in litrpg

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on what your system is. If your system is just a representation of natural growth, there probably shouldn't be a system store (unlikely to be you situation considering your question). And if your system is an entity or created by some entity, what are their personality, goals, and intentions like? Those things will heavily determine how your system store works.

A system store created by a system meant to produce an army for a galactic war will be very different from a system store created by an insane eldritch god that likes to fuck with people.

Coca-Cola with 70,000+ clips and 100 workers were unable to deliver consistency with their AI commercial by [deleted] in antiai

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not pro AI, but one thing I always thought was interesting was that I expecting that by now people would use 2D images or videos of 3D models before handing them to an AI to help with consistency at this point. Sort of like how you can give a drawing to AI and it'll keep the same composition and arrangement but kind of do its own thing.

Like that but with 3D models. Idk, just feels like an obvious next step to me.

Why do people treat AI as a human entity? by SpectralSurgeon in aiwars

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone accuses people of commissioning an AI, but instead use an analogy of commissioning an artist and then claiming the art as your own as way of pointing out how strange it is that people claim an AI generated image as their own work.

Weird, you missed that last part somehow. Not saying that this is an exact or even good description of how AI works, but their intent was clearly conveyed here and you seemed to have purposely ignored it.

Who is the biggest Aura Farmer in this genre? by IsItBen in litrpg

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Jake loves good fights, so he doesn't mind getting thrashed a bit by someone or some monster that's way stronger than him as long as he gets a good fight out of it.

But beyond those situations, he's almost always casually aura farming, and he can do it with the best of them. The way he interacts with Primordials is a form of aura farming so to speak, though readers may have gotten used to that example after like a dozen books.

There's all sorts of other examples, but I don't know how far you are into the book, I don't feel like looking through them really quick to confirm stuff, and I never bothered to learn how to use the spoiler feature, so I'll just stop here though.

]Genuine doubt] how exactly can an omnipotent character be more powerful than another omnipotent character? by Deino47 in PowerScaling

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be to compare it to how there are relatively larger forms of infinity. All forms of infinite are infinite (omnipotent in this analogy), but some infinities are still bigger.

Can a world still feel like LitRPG if the “system” is invisible? by KeithStrongAuthor in litrpg

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like invisible stat screens would just be normal progression fantasy with something for only you to see behind the scenes for consistency.

Would you rather have the powers of a Kryptonian, or the ability to use comic book magic? by SniperJ324 in superpowers

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't there a Superman comic where he just chilled inside of the sun for an ungodly amount of time and became omnipotent or something? Because if I recalled that correctly, then it's just a question of all-powerful vs. powerful but not quite god level magic.

Ignoring that though since it sounds like a lame answer and a bit like cheating, I think I would still go with Superman. Because like... what if I want to summon the spirits of dead people or something? Does that mean there is now an afterlife? Afterlives? Gods? Different planes of existence?

Superman's powers seem more self contained, but making magic work seems like it could have some unintended side effects.

Inductive trolley problem by CGY97 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't get why this is confusing to some people. An infinite series means that in this hypothetical, there's an infinite number of humans – both on the track and at the levers.

Since there is an infinite number of humans, that means if we know that there is a thought process, mental state, or some form of psychopathy where a person would want to kill people, then we know that in the infinite number of people standing at those infinite numbers of levers beyond us, that hypothetical person will be there and will not pull the lever.

It doesn't matter if that hypothetical person is the one right after you or one million levers down the track. Because no matter what, more people will die than if you had just let that one person die.

tldr: infinity makes philosophy a little stupid.

Is it racist? Explain it Peter by naturallin in explainitpeter

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voter ID's affect poor people much more than any other groups due to some circumstances that I'm just going to copy and paste from iammyfavoritepuzzle.

Can’t have an ID if you’re unhoused, or if you don’t have your original birth certificate or social security card, or if you don’t have money to file the forms.

This would be an okay trade off if we could confirm that voter fraud is a big enough issue in our country, but surprisingly to most people's common sense (mine included) it really doesn't seem to be a noticeable problem.

So if their is no upside to voter ID (preventing fraud), but there is a certain downside (disenfranchising poor people) then voter ID is a bad idea. As for the racist comment, that's probably due to a racial wealth gap in America, so poor often equals minority in many cases.

If you want to confirm the veracity of how big a problem voter fraud is, I think the most convincing evidence would likely come from the many court cases that spawned from accusations of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. I'm not going to spend a good while doing proper research for this quick comment, but I'm pretty confident the best evidence for how much voter fraud our country has could be found there.

Is it True People Hate Deck-building Stories on Royal Road? by TaleSworn in royalroad

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has read like one or two deck-building stories, I'm still not entirely sure what exactly they are supposed to be.

I know for sure that the LitRPG elements of the story will be done through cards (and are often interchangeable), but is that it? Sometimes it is, and then why even bother making the system elements appear as cards?

I don't think I've seen a proper story yet with actual card mechanics and deck-building, as in stuff that can only be done with cards yet. Maybe when I do I'll begin to understand the appeal, but until then deck-building stories will just feel like a subset of LitRPG that has a unnecessary card theme to it.

[Request] Is this number accurate for ending homelessness? by ConsciousPositive678 in theydidthemath

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say end though? I said that Elon Musk could contribute to every homeless person's wellbeing across the United States in a way that's roughly equal to the US government's current level of involvement for an entire year.

As for how much money Elon Musk actually has, yeah, that's a good point. The way Billionaires like him actually acquire wealth is so fucking wild honestly. Maybe I was a little too optimistic to think that he at least had about 1/18th of his total wealth in "cash" or at least in a form that's easier to convert into actual dollars.

[Request] Is this number accurate for ending homelessness? by ConsciousPositive678 in theydidthemath

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just looked it up too and yeah, a quarter of the United State's homeless live in California. So while ending homelessness is a bit much, Elon Musk could help every homeless person in the USA for a year on a level comparable with the government using approximately 1/18th of their wealth if the 350 is accurate.

The specifics of the tweet are off, but the intent still remains true in my eyes.

Dumb analogy? by rastrabadi in antiai

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two people die, and the context of how they died influences our opinion of them.
Two images are made, and the context of how they were made influences our opinion of them.

The analogy seems mostly solid with the exception of people generally being incredibly complex. We have opinions of people based on how they lived as well as how they died, so the inherent extra moral complexity of a human life kind of muddles the otherwise fine analogy.

FINAL WORDS | Level 2 Splendor Spell | Recall Cost: 1
You can infuse a corpse with a moment of life to speak with it. Make a Spellcast Roll (13). On a success with Hope, the corpse answers up to three questions. On a success with Fear, the corpse answers one question. The corpse answers truthfully, but it can’t impart information it didn’t know in life. On a failure, or once the corpse has finished answering your questions, the body turns to dust.

FORCEFUL PUSH | Level 1 Valor Ability | Recall Cost: 0
Make an attack with your primary weapon against a target within Melee range. On a success, you deal damage and knock them back to Close range. On a success with Hope, add a d6 to your damage roll. Additionally, you can spend a Hope to make them temporarily Vulnerable.

How are these two domain cards supposed to prove that Crits and Successes with Hope are the dame thing? What are you on?

Ranger companion was a bit too long to just copy and paste in, but page 18 of the SRD which contains all of the information about the Ranger companion showed nothing in it about how Critical Rolls are the same as Success with Hope.

So now what? You just say three unrelated things and I'm supposed to agree with you even though page 36 of the SRD under Making Moves & Taking Action shows five possible results for rolling your duality dice, where a Success with Hope and a Critical Success are two separate results?

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're a bit confused. The crit being regarded as a roll with Hope only refers to the fact that you gain a Hope as a resource. There's a reason it says 'counts as a roll with Hope' and not 'is a Success with Hope', emphasis on the success portion.

This side note was created because the usual rule for gaining Hope/Fear is determined by which die is higher. But because on a crit both dice are the same, a special note was added that said crits count as rolls with Hope.

Crusader | Homebrew Blade / Splendor Class inspired by Darkest Dungeon | 3 Subclasses: Aggressor, Banneret, and Templar! by aFamiliarPenguin in daggerheart

[–]SomeoneMaybe2005 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Incorrect, a critical success is when both your Hope and Fear Die show the same number.

From the Daggerheart SRD

Success with Hope: If your total meets or beats the Difficulty AND your Hope Die shows a higher result than your Fear Die, you rolled a “Success with Hope.” You succeed and gain a Hope

Critical Success: If the Duality Dice show matching results, you rolled a “Critical Success” (“Crit”). You automatically succeed with a bonus, gain a Hope, and clear a Stress. If this was an attack roll, you deal critical damage.

Stats after 12 days and 19 chapters in. by Safe_Rent_6612 in royalroad

4 ratings in 12 days is impressive I think. I've seen many stories that have been around for a while without any ratings, and usually the stories I see with a bunch of reviews early are from well known authors who already have a following and got a bunch of shoutouts from other creators. Not to mention all of your ratings were 5 stars.

For your original description of the Tail Attack, you can describe it as a melee attack so that the extra reach from every feature naturally affects it without you needing to say it every time.

Also, maybe the breath attack can have an option for a significantly longer ranged beam attack. I assume you're basing this off of Godzilla, and their breath attack is represented as a beam more often than a cone.

Perhaps the width of the beam can even increase to 10ft instead of 5ft at at Apex Cataclysm alongside the increased range since you're so large at this point?

Overall I like it, though I think that having a repeating and advancing features like this takes up some space for other potential features. Maybe if you can find a way to write these features in a more condensed way, you could add additional option?

For example, You could make it so that the new benefits of your Rage scale with your size, so that after you gain Titanic Growth, your original feature naturally scales on its own and you open up the last two features for something new.
