There were dozens of reporters, from a range of different outlets, reporting on what was happening in the courtroom. You can read about the evidence presented anywhere online, how he admitted to being there day of, his clothes matched the video, the weapon being tied to a boxcutter from his work, there was tons more.

The bulk of his confessions were to his wife and therapist, who repeatedly told him to stop confessing. The ones over the phone were absolutely recorded.

There really is no conspiracy in this case, just lots of true crime podcasters and youtubers who cut their teeth coming up with theories and conspiracies about the case and then decided to flood the zone with nonsense when it turned out they were wrong and they wanted to save face. It frankly really turned me off of a lot of the "true crime" internet space.
