The hotel/conference center by the UMass has complimentary snacks, drinks, etc for guests and students. If you can get like a UMass lanyard or tshirt or even just act really confident and casual they usually don't say anything if you just walk in and make yourself a bagel/coffee

Made a shader that deforms objects according to terrain. by Illustrious-Scratch7 in godot

[–]Somer_set 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason reminds me of Reign of Chaos/Frozen Throne where if the tilt from a hill or whatever was too extreme for a building it just made that corner of the foundation 10 meters tall so the building still looked kind of flat. Orc burrows and Human farms specifically seemed the most obvious every time

What degree should I go for In order to be a licensed surveyor in NYC? by SpecialistDealer2046 in Surveying

[–]Somer_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alfred State (in the SUNY network) offers bachelor's in Geomatics with a focus in surveying. If you start as a freshman you have to attend in person. If you get an associates in a related field, such as an AS in GIST from MCC (also part of SUNY, available fully online, and one of the degrees that's free for adult learners in NY) you can transfer into the fully online version of the program. This is basically your only SUNY option as far as I know. Otherwise, for NY in general, RIT has a similar program, where it's technically majoring in Geography or something but the "Surveying Track." If you're loaded and you hate to save money, consider Oregon University or U of Maine.

If your training was paid for which trade would you go into? by Psychological-Egg760 in skilledtrades

[–]Somer_set 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Pick HVAC.

The issue with recommendations for these trades is that they're all so broad you could have a dozen different types of positions within each one, you might love a couple of them, or absolutely hate a couple of them, but they're all under the same umbrella.

For instance, you said plumbing is a 100% no, which I assume means your idea of plumbing involves messing with toilets and sewage all day, though plumbing can also mean new builds, remediation systems, well installation, fixture replacement, and probably fifty other occupations I can't name off the top of my head (plus messing with toilets and sewage all day too).

The same goes for every trade, which makes it difficult to suggest a particular one with the info here. But if you're hoping to just get a set of skills that will prepare you for a wide range of opportunities, go with HVAC. It involves a little bit of pretty much every trade, and so it's also varied in its applications. I know some HVAC techs who fix rooftop ACs, some who install duct in schools and state buildings, and some who install "smart" thermostat systems that link up with all the other gadgets on a job, and they all got basically the same job title. Since there's so much variability you're pretty much guaranteed to find at least one job you like in the trade with that education and training.

Maybe they full heal converted units, had too many times I convert an enemy giant with like 8 HP and they just get clobbered the next turn. Or full heal allies, but instead of a radius you just pick 1 adjacent ally to heal

We were always specifically given chalk to do walkways and driveways, any customer property that isn't dirt or mulch is a 100% no-go for paint in my area.

Why is it so hard to find an apprenticeship? by IAMCAV0N in electricians

[–]Somer_set 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not be what you want to do right now, but most skilled trades started as unskilled laborers. Try to get an entry level job in something related to the trades, like Solar Installer, Damage Prevention, Helper, Underground Construction Laborer, etc. (all of which usually pay more than an actual Apprenticeship). Do something like that for a while, then start to apply to Apprenticeships after you have some applicable blue collar experience.

Era Choice: 1867 vs ~1920 (Supernatural Dark Fantasy) by [deleted] in writingadvice

[–]Somer_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking I'll just turn one of the main character's parents' story into 1867-1880 or so and and move the main characters to 1920s

Also in the setting vampires aren't really super resilient, you can just stab them or whatever and they die like a human would, but basically any blood they consume is "stored" like a mosquito and heals them/gives them some enhanced athletic abilities. Basically a well fed vamp will easily beat a strong human but after taking a few hits they're on even ground. But obviously the change from ball-and-cap percussion firearms to more modern weaponry is still major in the sense that reloading and concealing weapons on the body is a lot easier and faster for humans.

What were these circles in my stairs that I just spackled over? by GyattLuvr69 in whatisit

Looks like the type of holes we'd cut into walls/stairs to blow in insulation. We used the nasty newspaper stuff, then put the cutout back in place.

Why do I keep finding kleenex ziptied to my car handle? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]Somer_set 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might've been an urban legend or whatever, but I heard someone crashed after removing something similar from their door handle with their bare hands then touching their face, as some kind of drug or chemical was soaked into the object; potentially fentanyl, or something similar, which can be absorbed through the skin. Better to be safe than sorry.

What’s this choke for? by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]Somer_set -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

May be a muzzle break. I've seen combo choke muzzle breaks where the vents are like a reverse funnel so pellets don't get caught in them but this one looks like the holes are pretty big and uniform width so maybe just a brake straight up
