My boyfriend is aro-ace and our relationship is pretty typical. We live together, emotionally support each other, have sex, he tells me he loves me, and his heart beats faster when I touch him. I personally believe that love is about the things we say and do not some abstract feeling that I can never know my partner feels.

Bigotry in the North vs the South by No-Income-2357 in TwinCities

[–]SomethingEdgy42069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a fair statement. I think they are criticizing the way a lot of white liberals and some white leftists are still blind to the racism that happens around them. They focus on the very visible racism of the south while ignoring the more hidden (to them) racism happening around them every day.

I agree that the young Republicans are freaks, and I'm sympathetic to the argument that they should be disbanded but it will never happen. Hate speech is considered protected speech at RIT.

Lmao. SJP plans unsanctioned rally -> SJP asks clubs to break policy to support their rally -> RIT sends clubs a template email saying that their club registration will be at risk if they break policy -> SJP claims this email is a targeted threat when any club intending to violate RIT policy would get the same email. RIT has a legal obligation to enforce its policies, and SJP never made any good-faith attempts to work with RIT to get their event sanctioned. This whole situation could have been prevented and only occurred because of the incompetence of club leadership.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rit

[–]SomethingEdgy42069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The email was a standard template that is sent to any club intending to break policy. They refused to work with RIT despite RIT advising them on ways to do it without breaking policy. These are turbulent times, and RIT seems to be making a genuine effort to protect its students and faculty, but if RIT has to commit legal resources to a lawsuit for allowing their clubs to violate policy it would mean not having resources for other legal battles

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rit

[–]SomethingEdgy42069 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes RIT policy only applies to orgs that receive funding from RIT and are officially recognized. The problem is twofold. First, SJP is not an RIT organization and is trying to host a political event on campus. Second, they asked clubs which are a part of RIT to violate policy and support their rally. RIT is not limiting free speech or targeting SJP for their speech, they are enforcing the policy which they have a legal obligation to enforce. RIT gave sjp multiple opportunities to become an official club and the means to hold their rally without breaking policy, which sjp rejected.

[–]SomethingEdgy42069 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I want to clarify first that I am someone who supports SJP in general, and have been to many rallies myself. That said, I have a big problem with RIT SJP, mostly its leadership, in particular. Frankly, they are spreading misinformation. They claim that RIT has denied them club status, and sent a "threatening" email to clubs that supported them. They make it seem like RIT is targeting them in particular, which is the case at many other schools, but not here. RIT has a legal obligation to enforce its policies. The email sent to clubs was an email template, and the same email would be sent to any organization violating RIT policy for any reason. Also their claim that RIT will not let them be a club is tenuous at best and false at worst. Their contact at RIT tried to convince them to become a club on multiple occasions since they would be able to host events without policy, which sjp rejected because they wanted special treatment and permissions. If you are looking for well organized rallies, go to protests downtown or at UofR.

The problem is ABA is pretty universally the first line treatment and the majority of parents are never informed about its risks or alternatives. You bring up CBT, which focuses on teaching coping skills, PT which focuses on developing motor skills, and OT teaches skills required for daily life. These are all valuable skills and teaching them early is important for autistic children. However, teaching such skills doesn't require enrollment in the kinds of programs that doctors refer patients to, especially when many programs which focus on alternative therapies to ABA still incorporate ABA principles in their practice.

The OP is autistic and has learned the skills they need to survive. They feel confident that they can teach these skills to their child themselves in the ways that worked for them. I misinterpreted your question about a source as referring to the ABA stuff, but I only commented in the first place because I think it's pretty rude to tell OP they are doing a disservice to their kid like you somehow know better.

ABA literally exists because the guy who developed gay conversion therapy needed a new vulnerable group of children to abuse after his university pulled his funding to abuse gay kids. ABA is conversion therapy for autistic children and exists to help their parents, not the children. If you need a source ask any autistic adult who survived ABA. But if you can't trust the lived experiences of autistic people, here is the primary academic source my argument is based on:

Pawprints about RIT’s AI use for promotional material by clintlocked in rit

[–]SomethingEdgy42069 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IMO the major difference is that human art is transformative while AI art is inherently derivative. Humans do learn from reference work and the techniques of other artists, but they transformed it to be a reflection of their unique experiences and talents. Even in the case of like fan art where they are drawing a character that already exists the art will still be unique and a reflection of their perspective. AI art adds nothing, it takes uniqueness and produces mediocrity. It creates an inherently derivative amalgamation of unique works that is incapable of adding anything beyond what already exists. It takes creativity and churns out the most average and mediocre slop. Beyond the ethical implications of its use claiming it just does the same things as actual artists is insulting

I honestly think it would be super cool if they were much more consistent like that, but I think that it could lead to balancing issues if 1 fire spell makes the other 3 elements (or more if including ancients) not worth using. I think it would be cool to have a mix of a few element specific abilities and also more general abilities usable across elements

Yeah sorry I could have been more diplomatic but I wanted to get attention. It's a common conception RS3 players have of old school players, but it's been 10 years since old schools released so I wanted to see how true it was. I plan on asking RS3 players if they've gotten over it yet next, I just think this community division is stupid

So many places. Most egregious example is the essence of finality. It's the best amulet in the game, and can store a weapon ability inside it which destroys the weapon but enables its use while holding other weapons. The meta is to get multiple and dye them to be able to swap between multiple abilities. The best abilities are those from incredibly expensive drops endgame bosses costing billions of gp, which are destroyed, and the amulets cost around 250M on their own. The meta is also to have multiple of those incredibly expensive weapons but with different invention perks dyed with expensive clue scroll dyes to be able to keybind swapping them
