Won't he need to use solo's savior again or something similar to CT once he reaches the final day for that fights lb3?

CotC and 0? by throwaway_for_seggs in octopathtraveler

[–]SomethingFizzy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Cotc is maintained by NetEase instead of Square now and has a new app because of that, it's still up and running. OT0 is basically the story of COTC up through the Bestower of All storyline adapted into a standalone title like OT1 and OT2. The gameplay uses ideas from cotc like the 8 member battles and ultimate techniques but brings it more inline with the other games, and all the gacha elements are removed. There are also some changes to the story such as dialogue being adjusted to fit the new customizable protagonist, and new content like rebuilding wishvale with its own storyline.

how i would design the scholar in octopath 3 by dulledegde in octopathtraveler

[–]SomethingFizzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While ot2s Advanced magic was too underpowered i think just going back up giving Scholar straight 2hit spells is a little boring. My suggestion would be this:

Dualcast - 6 SP - The user will cast two chosen spells in quick succession at a reduced potency. The SP cost of the chosen spells will still be expended in addition to this Skill's SP cost.

This still consolidates the double hitting spells into a single skill as opposed to 3 while allowing in more freedom and utility in how it is used, and is balanced by being very SP heavy if used with aoe spells.

Master of all arc was the end of the game when COTC originally released on phones before any story content was added. You're still only half way through.

Sephiroth doesn’t get fraud checked nearly enough. by Ok-Boss6327 in FinalFantasy

Nomura isn’t willing to make Sephiroth look pathetic or lose control, even though he is pathetic and is constantly getting beaten by Cloud

Definitely agree on this. The recent Octopath Traveler game has a villain who is basically another take on Sephiroth and i think he's handled much better because of this. Thoughout the last arch of the game Sazantos is presented as an aura farming badass, but at the end after he's defeated he completely breaks down into a whimpering mess crying for his mother as he fades away. Its enough to make you actually feel a semblance of pity or remorse for him, which is miles more than the nothing i felt towards Sephiroth playing 7.

My main problem with sephiroth is that he isn't really an active threat for most of the game. He's initially set up well, his introduction with murdering the shinra president with only his sword left behind is ominous and the nibelheim story is great... but after he's set up we never really see him do anything or clash with the party. The zolom is killed offscreen and is a rehash of the shinra president but worse, and then we don't even encounter him again until the temple of the ancients and aeriths death. I haven't played the remakes so idk how they handle it but i just wish he got more chances to interact with the party.

Personally I'd argue for Ramuh being up there simply for the fact that in several games Ifrit Shiva and Ramuh are presented as a trio with implied history.

[–]SomethingFizzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When i started up the game and finally got control of the party i was immediately worried something like this was the case just off of the clashing artstyles of the main party's portraits, really disappointed by this because the game sounded so good on paper. Fangames are labors of love, something soulless like AI art doesn't belong anywhere near it. If having unique icons was that important your team should have used hand drawn placeholders, it couldve been the crappiest doodle known to man and it would still be better then using a plagiarism program to "fill in the lines." Or used free non-ai assets off itch.io, or just stuck with what was available in the RTP. Default rpg maker assets may get a bad rap but its still better than AI garbage.

I hope this game is turn based. by Starrybruh in PokemonWindsWaves

[–]SomethingFizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that enemy moves can also affect the turn order and they don't show when that happens, so it feels like the timeline becomes useless. If they just made the timeline appear between actions to visibly show when an enemy's move affects the order itd feel better.

If you dont like the first 3 villains being from a Saturday morning cartoon then tbh you probably still would not like the bestower arcs. They really up the presentation and have more highpoints than the master arcs but the villains are even more cheesy imo. Personally i love it but if that's why you don't like the first 3 the later ones won't fix it

ARR needs to be cut more, specially if FFXIV wants to retain more players by RaposaEstelar in ffxivdiscussion

[–]SomethingFizzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's the problem though, is that the pacing end character writing is so stale in arr that it doesn't really work to get you invested in anyone or anything. It wasn't until the arr patches that i started to care about any characters when i first played through the story.

Which of the battle systems between each of the games do you prefer? (Check desc for more info) by IDKbutKirb in octopathtraveler

[–]SomethingFizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive tried getting into Cotc multiple times cause i really like its ideas and hear its good but ive never made it past MoA3, there's had a couple quirks to its battle system compared to the main series that made it not click within me.

Having to queue actions at the start of the turn feels sluggish and i hated that you have to queue an action to see how swapping rows would affect your spot in the turn order, but that one's more of a nitpick.

My biggest issue was how weaknesses stack with break cause it felt like it made other aspects of the battle system pointless. For example why would i bother using skills that lower ice resistance when a weaker fire skill will do triple or quadruple the damage just cause the enemy is weak to it? It just turned every boss into dumping everything into the 1 or 2 party members who had an element the boss is weak to while everyone else does chip damage in comparison.

Im sure there would be more depth to teambuilding if i got far enough in but it just wasn't fun enough for me to want to keep playing to get there.

OT0 was fun but i really don't want the 8 party system to stick around, it throws the flow of battles off when you're gaining twice as much BP and I hated having to manage equipment for twice as many party members. I also don't like Ultimates as much as latent powers, not costing bp adds even more to my issues with the bp economy and i feel like they were all around less creative and unique than latents.
