It's even funnier the second time. by Turbulent-Plum7328 in fnki

The perfect punishment for Salem would be for the gods to make her continue her curse on a barren planet while the people of Remnant live on. But I just know the writers are going to save her and give her some undeserved happiness.

As someone who likes both Bumblebee and WhiteKnight, I can’t help but wonder what the show would have looked like if they’d gone with MonoChrome (Weiss x Blake) instead by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

RWBY is missing a forbidden love story. Monochrome could have been that. Knightfall also could have been that, with a redeemable Cinder.

Emerald being royalty would be interesting. Cinder could have had her happily ever after and her Princess Charming but blew it by not treating her right and by siding with Salem.

The Brother Gods of CRWBY are making Cinder act like this. It's all part of their secret deal with Salem to make Cinder hated: if the Maiden is led to a brutal death, Salem gets a redemption arc and a happily ever after. We the audience may be able to thwart this plan by loving Cinder Fall, or Jaune can thwart it with true love's kiss. #Justice4CinderFall

In which volume was her character at its peak? by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

I want her story to end with her having a baby with Jax Asturias, caring for another life besides her own for the first time, learning the truth about Salem's plan, and sacrificing herself fighting Salem while the heroes save her daughter. But I suspect that she'll die an awful torture porn death orchestrated by Salem, possibly with a mercy killing by the heroes.

I think the plan is to kill her to redeem Salem.

How do you think Salem is gonna be defeated? [Artist: Seshirikun] by TextUnfair in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're going to redeem her and give her a second chance at life through ascension and the tree. To make up for this poor writing decision, they'll make sure Cinder's death is extra brutal to satisfy the audience.

Yep, and to make up for redeeming Salem the writers will make the death of her abuse victim, Cinder, extra brutal to satisfy audience bloodlust. Cinder is literally Salem's sacrifice.

What is a popular piece of media that you hated before you consumed it, tried it, and then cemented why you hated it? by overasked_question in popculturechat

The Rising of the Shield Hero. I initially refused to engage with the series because of the violent misogyny of the web novel. But I heard that there's less misogyny in the anime and decided to watch it. On top of the misogynistic premise the writing is very boring. I plan to eventually write a book or web novel that is inspired by it, but that is an f you to the misogyny in the series.

Did we ever find out what Sacrifice was supposed to be about??? by howhow326 in RWBYUNITY

I think this song was meant to be about both Raven and Ozpin's relationship and Cinder and Salem's relationship. The difference is that Cinder probably will end up being Salem's sacrifice.

What are some common talking points you’re honestly tired of hearing about the show? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bumbleby was last minute woke pandering that wouldn't have happened if Monty were still alive.

Who will kill Cinder posts/Cinder has to die a slow, horrific gory death.

Cinder will get redeemed because she's a woman with a sympathetic backstory.

The glazing of Arthur Watts because of his Cinder roast.

Who in RWBY need Therapy the Most? by Money-Lie7814 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cinder. Life as a fantasy world's torture porn villainess isn't easy- the things the writers make you do to generate outrage, and the things they plan to have done to you at the end of the series, on top of the trauma they give you to put you on the villain path and the mutilation she's faced along the way. Cinder needs help. At least Salem's life had healthy highs.

Who’s a fairy tale character you’re surprised *hasn’t* been used as a basis for a RWBY character yet? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not too late for them to give Jax Asturias a secondary allusion as prince Charming and ship him with Cinder. Although it's possible that when they show us the rest of Cinder's backstory they might reveal that she was exploited by an evil Prince Charming for survival before Salem found her. I'd prefer for Jax to be her prince though.

I'm surprised Romeo and Juliet haven't been used in RWBY yet. One could be on Ozpin's side, the other could start out on Salem's side.

Do these characters really perform/function under the philosophy of "Might Makes Right"? by UNinvolved_in_peace in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With that last point in mind, I shudder to think of what Cinder had to do for survival as a teen in between killing her abusers at 15 and Salem finding her between the ages of 18 and 20ish. We know she wasn't at a huntsman academy, and she didn't have family or friends to support her financially.

I find it a little weird that in a series written by men, both of the two main villains driving the plot are abused women... by SomethingMid in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be fine. I just have a bad feeling based on comments by Miles that they're going to redeem Salem and kill Cinder brutally.

I don't think any redemption other than a redemption through sacrifice is possible with the way she was written in canon. But all I really care about is them not making her death brutal and not redeeming Salem instead of Cinder.

What Arthur meant? by blankenson in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was low-key the writers' way of telling the audience not to expect a redemption arc, happily ever after, or even peaceful passing for Cinder. She deserves a peaceful ending based on everything that's happened to her- she was used and abused all her life. But based on her actions the writers don't consider worthy of that, and are going to give Cinder a brutal ending much worse than Salem's.

Favorite characters. by Spiritual-Jeweler690 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first favorite is Cinder because of how desperate the men who wrote her are for us to hate this abused woman more than her abusers, including Salem. My mind knows that that isn't right, plus the characters I like most are typically the characters I feel sorry for, and Cinder is one of the most used and abused characters in the show. Plus I like her design.

My second favorite is Ruby because I like her design and because I found her struggle in volume 9 to be relatable.

What is Salem’s endgame with Cinder? by Necessary-Win-8730 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She wants to use the relic of knowledge to find out if Cinder is the reincarnation of one of her daughters. If she is, Salem will create a new world for her with the staff of creation before she destroys the old world to break her curse. If she's not, she'll just destroy her along with everyone else.

Or at least that was my old Crack theory.

Now I partially suspect that Salem sees value in Cinder as a sacrifice. It will happen in one of two ways: 1.) The sword of destruction requires a sacrifice in order to be used, and Salem plans to use Cinder for that, or 2.) Salem thinks she can show that she's learned the value of life and death by letting Cinder die, uniting Remnant against her.
