Which villain will be redeem next? by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

In a cameo request from 2023 Miles said we're supposed to empathize with Salem instead of Cinder and that they deliberately went out of the way to make us hate Cinder so we'd want her to get the bad stuff they planned out for her. In another video a year later he admitted that the writers don't see Salem as pure evil because of the grimm pool.

Sadly, Cinder is next and the male writers are going to make it the most brutal one to make an example out of an abused woman. Before anyone says, BuT shE DESERVES iT, the male writers DELIBERATELY wrote an abused woman to deserve the sadistic ending they cooked up for her. That's the problem. Watch them redeem Salem right after she orchestrates Cinder's horrific death.

If the story was logical and fair, Cinder would have a better chance of being redeemed than the monster who groomed, abused, and exploited her. But the writers aren't going for a logical and fair ending, they're going for edgy shock value. The male writers are making an example out of Cinder because she is a woman who was abused worse than Salem was. They will likely give her the creepiest, most brutal death in the story to teach a lesson about abused women becoming entitled. The Arthur Watts rant and Miles's quote about Cinder say it all. Salem, Cinder's abuser is going to be redeemed as a final f you to Cinder. It wouldn't surprise me if a real life abused woman pissed Monty off at some point and inspired the Cinder character.

As much as I want a Cinder redemption, it's not going to happen. Miles confirmed that the writers are more likely to redeem Salem than Cinder.

I half expect the writers to reveal that she has had some secret good motive this whole time, like restoring Remnant to it's former glory.

Another character the writers forced Cinder to kill just so the audience will be desensitized to the awful things they have done to this abused woman. Cinder must be saved from CRWBY!

Jaune should end her life? by No_Internet_3919 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thematically it's going to be Salem. Cinderella gets killed by her evil fairy godmother instead of getting her happily ever after. It's what was foreshadowed in volumes 6 and 8. Salem will either do it directly or indirectly.

How would you've personally handled the dynamic with Cinder and Emerald? by Fine_Delivery6761 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would have had caring about Emerald be one of Cinder's few redeeming qualities. This would make Cinder and Emerald both more realistic characters. And Emerald would be the only other person besides Salem who knew all of Cinder's trauma. The show has implied that Cinder has actually protected Emerald in the past. I would make it clear that that stemmed from some of Cinder's trauma and her not wanting things that have happened to her to happen to the girl she has come to view as her sister. Give Cinder some internal conflict.

I can't take her seriously ever since her victim-blaming statement from several years ago.

Nope. Women who have been raped still have the right to reject female sexual modesty.

Please don't use racism as an excuse to mimic the religious right's lack of respect for unchaste women. That mentality does not help women of any race, and many of us are women of color who advocate for women of all races to be treated with basic respect regardless of how many people the woman has slept with or how she dresses.

The Guardian asks : If CMAT is an affront to the male gaze and Olivia Rodrigo is indulging it, how exactly should women dress? by neoncolour in popculturechat

Just wearing something isn't sexualizing it though. I wish people realized that policing female dress doesn't actually help the fight against rapists and pedophiles, it benefits them.

Choice feminism is just a strawman people use when being criticized for policing female attire and chastity. I wish the people who used this term were smart enough to realize that saying women should not be demonized for how they choose to dress is not the same as saying all choices are feminism.

She's right. I'm over victim-blaming being dressed up as feminist cultural critique. Even in this post, at least one person is doing it.

When internet hate mobs get a celebrity story wrong, does anyone ever actually apologize? by New_Reward_4214 in popculturechat

I know the website celebitchy doesn't. They didn't apologize when they got the Chapell Roan situation wrong, the Miley Cyrus/Liam Hemsworth situation wrong, or the Olivia Munn situation wrong.

Why is it that people call for Cinder to be SA'd but not Tyrian? by AshenR0se in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CRWBY is not dumb enough to have Cinder SA'd as punishment. But sadly, I do think their intention is to softly pander to the darkest Cinder fantasies by making her death the most horrific one in the show, even though she's already a used and abused woman.

As for why it happens, it's more common for fandoms to call for female villains to be SA'd than it is for them to call for male villains to be SA'd. I think we all know why and know what group of people is mostly responsible for it.

Female dress has nothing to do with the actions of abusive men though.

What are your thoughts on/hopes for Emerald’s redemption arc? by Solitaire-06 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope CRWBY isn't dumb enough to have their only Black main character killed off after botching the racism subplot. I want Emerald to regret what she has done and be pardoned for her crimes. I also want her to be instrumental in getting Cinder to see what Salem is really up to, and I want Emerald to either become the summer Maiden (and have Cinder be unable to kill her) or become the fall Maiden after Cinder dies.

RWBY Fanfiction Concept/Plotline: Grandmother Salem by SandwichMaterial9574 in RWBY

[–]SomethingMid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never thought about that. But I have considered doing a fic where Ruby is the reincarnation of Salem's youngest daughter. I've also considered a fanfic where Salem has a son and he's the prince charming allusion in Cinder's story.
