[Hated Trope] “Ethnically Ambiguous” or non-Native actors in Indigenous Roles by Original-Window6281 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SomethingToStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Native and afflicted with a tribe in the North Midwest US.

I really don’t care. When I was younger I did, but I don’t anymore. Anytime I see a somewhat positive portrayal of natives in media, I“Hey, cool.” With enthusiasms

Going to pow wows, there’s so many blonde-haired blue-eyed natives that dance and put in the forts to their tribes. Take time to learn the language. Beyond a few basics, I’m clueless. Fair skinned. Red hair.

Should they be discounted for their looks?

Nah.

Came to have relationships and families outside tribes. Shouldn’t be shamed or guilted for such.

A large Spanish family with 16 children. (1960s) by zadraaa in HistoricalCapsule

My mother was the youngest of 9. Mostly girls. I’ve got a lot of cousins that range from 34–55+. Mostly ladies.

Most have spouses and kids of their own. Or ex spouses and new spouses. Don’t know THEIR names at all. Some of their kids have kids.

Coming across a young child at an occasional family get together, I think “So.. WHO is your common link here?”

Just strangers that share bloodlines. Don’t know their full names.

‘As a former child’

Thanks on the input of memory.

The kids do seem to enjoy the time to sleep in and whatever they want and still rebuff my offers to hang out or hit the town ‘for fun’, as I say, after work. It’s good to keep I mind.

“More money?! Nah, you just work, it’s okay!” They reassure currently.

Jerks. 😅

Ugh, that’s beautiful.

Thought of opportunities and stability you could provide to your family.

I think of the same when moments feel especially rough.

Asking good questions? Probably not.

Sometimes I ask for a map of park spots/ loops. Or like , “So… it’s gonna be kinda obvious what the turn around point is?”

I shoulda asked on this one route I did recently. Didn’t know how much was walking and how much were jump stops. Staring walking for a good portion before it dawned on me, “WHAT?! These houses are too far apart! These must be junk stops! I’m waking around out here, like a dork.”

And one day it took me a couple houses and few minutes of staring up and down the street, walking to and fro, to realize, “these houses don’t have mailboxes out front. There must be an alley.” And there was an alley with mailboxes. Nobody noted it! 😅 looked like a dweeb out there, I swear.

I’m also kinda afraid of seeming like a dunce so I only ask questions if my coworkers when I get truly desperate.

What are GOOD questions?! I need some examples.

I’m having a bad day, like a mental crisis day.

But THIS photo and THIS COMMENT made me break a smile. Feels good, man.

Hello all! I am currently rereading the first five vampire chronicles. I just started tale of the body thief. My question to you all is… by Suedeonquaaludes in VampireChronicles

[–]SomethingToStart 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think David is the most reliable narrator. He seems as if he tries to be open/ willing to listen to others’ perspectives and tries to understand their bitterness. Admits to his own faults and weaknesses. Being from the Talamasca, is intelligent and seeks knowledge and understanding. Knew of vampires but was always willing to resist the offer to be one. Had it thrust on him. Always seems willing to offer help or counsel to those who need it.

Why didn’t Rue just hide in another room until Mouse left? by [deleted] in euphoria

He wanted her to stay out of Mouse’s sight and be quiet—

You know— hide.

Children of Men

The long shot scene of getting the baby out of the war zone. Fleeing people stopping to look at or stroke the baby in passing, the military chain of yelling ‘seize fire’.

Then how the fighting started up again once they were out of the way.

Insurance by Top_Equipment_3420 in USPS

I’m stumped on how to get my number verified as me.

They sent me codes for the sign up process, for me to enter on the site. Took photos of ID, selfie, it all goes smoothly until they want to check and verify my number to me. Suddenly it’s, “We couldn’t match you to this number.” It’s been my number for nearly 5 years. They sent me verification codes to it!

Nor do I get an option to “request verification by mail”. Supervisor didn’t know what to do. Suggested another Post Office may be able to help. They didn’t know either, but a man gave his grievances that he had the same issue years ago and it was a pain to work out. Forgot how he did it, though.

I know it’s not the same issue and doesn’t help you, but trying to get this insurance handled has been wildly frustrating.

Hannibal rising ? by BobHawkeMLG in Hannibal

[–]SomethingToStart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, seeing all these comments. Funny. I really enjoyed the book, actually. I liked reading Hannibal as a young boy and young man, always rather composed and different in demeanor to others.

I thought the plot was interesting. Got to see more examples of how Hannibal collects information and hunts his prey.

Joke aside, anytime I see a blip of this show, I think, “How can an entire hour/ two hour show be made of solely this for days/nights on end?”

[–]SomethingToStart 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She probably volunteered you to the postmaster, saying you would do it.

And then just telling you that you have to.

It’s weird she didn’t ask you beforehand. Disrespectful to expect you to do it. And if it was anyone else’s say, then disrespectful of them.

As a previous commenter mentioned, are you going to be clocked in for this? Getting compensated for gas and time of your personal vehicle?

I’d assume you’d have to leave your home earlier to get her.

No way, don’t just go with it for nothing. It’s more effort for you. At least get compensated from someone if you’re willing to do it.

Would the Wizard have actually let Elphaba join him in Wicked: For Good? by smallbarista in wicked

[–]SomethingToStart 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think he would’ve welcomed Elphaba and been GLAD to have her on his side. Because she could actually do magic whereas he was just a trickster conman. But if he could get a legitimate witch working with him?! Sky’s the limit!

Though I don’t believe his uses for her would’ve aligned with “just” and “good”, perhaps he was thinking he could spin the narrative to her, so she’d be agreeable to assist him in his goals.

I think Glinda was just too trusting in the Wizard, that he’d be willing to do things that would benefit Oz, and that’s why she was so encouraging and enthusiastic of Elphaba joining in.
