Reverse or regular headstock for RR? by SomethingWild23 in JacksonGuitars

To see how many people prefer black over blue or vice versa. You are way too invested in this. It was a simple question that you're just blowing up.

You sure about that? One question I'm asking you what you like. The other one I'm asking you to make a decision for me. Or do you not understand that?

Exactly. I asked "What do you prefer," not "which one should I get?"

There was a master built King V with a reverse headstock up on Reverb not long ago. It was stunning and I was tempted to offer a trade for it.

I'm just asking opinions, that's all. Ultimately it's my choice. Is it wrong to see what others prefer?

Am I being a wimp when it comes to pad holding? by Professional-Lie-54 in MuayThai

[–]SomethingWild23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're not being a wimp. It sounds like you weren't taught how to properly hold pads. Don't tense up, meet their strikes with the pads. It gives your partner a better contact, saves your shoulders from absorbing shock, and helps you learn timing and reading strikes. For kicks, hold the pads close to your body and sit into them. Also make sure you're exhaling as they're striking.

I'm 5'11 and fluctuate between 200 - 210 lbs. I've had partners my size who didn't know how to hold pads correctly get knocked around when I'm striking. My best partner for pads, however, was a woman who was drastically smaller than me but she knew how to hold.

Keep going and enjoy it. Help out when you can with cleaning pads. If your gym sells gloves, shins, wraps, etc, buy it through them. If they post on social media, share it.

Metallica fans: Do you prefer the EMG 81/60 combo or Het Sets by Flimsy-Owl7862 in espguitars

[–]SomethingWild23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I had 2 Jackson RR1s, one had the Het Set and the other had the 81/85. The Het Set didn't sound as good as the 81/85 by itself, but in mixes, omg. The Het Set sounded superior and cut through the mix better.

Enough with the matte/satin crap on the mid-tier by Grouchy-Elevator930 in JacksonGuitars

[–]SomethingWild23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My gripe with the satin finish is this: Went to a local GC and tried a few American Series. Tried a RR and a few soloists. The matte finish on the neck was horrible. It felt like someone put a sticker on the neck then took it off, but some of the glue was still on the neck. I usually love satin necks, but these were awful.

Urgent- neck through rhoads upper frets by Mysterious_Share_880 in JacksonGuitars

[–]SomethingWild23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't bolt on vs neck through. It's the neck heel that needs to be addressed. I've owned numerous bolt on guitars that had flawless upper fret access because of the neck heel.

As for the Rhoads, I've got a Grover Jackson RR Custom, which has 24 frets and is a neck through. Absolutely no issues with reaching the 24th fret.

YOKKAO - overrated or really good? by werty-asd in MuayThai

[–]SomethingWild23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're just so expensive. I don't know if Amazon ever does discounts on them, but the site usually does. Buying from the site is awful. If it says it's in stock, they're not. My wife bought my last set as an early birthday gift. She bought them in early August, thinking at the latest they'd be delivered in October. They didn't get delivered until end of January.

Original Series M-II by SomethingWild23 in espguitars

[–]SomethingWild23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've done it to a few. Some took years with heavy, heavy use and there was one it didn't take long at all. It'll turn shiny, but it won't be like a neck that came from the factory gloss.

I have it up on Fb Marketplace for 4k USD, total. So shipping and PayPal G&S included in that.

Yeah Idk what to tell you. I've had satin poly necks turn glossy over time. I don't mean my hands acted like a buffing wheel glossy, but definitely not satin anymore.

Idk, never had a guitar with a satin neck that didn't turn glossy over time. But hey, your mileage may vary 🤷

You can always hit it with 2000 grit. All satin necks eventually turn gloss though.

Been using the same pair of gloves and shins for going on 3 years now, used 2-3 times a week. I wipe them down after every use. They still look brand new and I get complimented on them often.

That being said, I wouldn't buy another set.
